Beginning ministry at PLC: June 1, 2019!!

Lent, Holy Week & Easter at Peace Lutheran Our last two Wednesday soup supper gatherings this Lenten season are Apr 3 & 10 at 6 pm. We will continue

our Lenten focus with prayer and reading the scriptures for the coming Sunday. This has generated good

conversation and insight each week!

Pastor Gail has kindly agreed to lead us through Holy Week officiating at Palm Sunday worship, Maundy

Thursday, and Good Friday along with Steve Hagler. Many of the elements that you are accustomed to will be

the same with the exception of a few new details. We will have wonderful and meaningful worship together as

we walk with Christ to the cross.

We celebrate Easter and the Risen Christ, and shout “He Is Risen Indeed!” Join this festival of hope, resurrection,

and salvation for all! How about an Easter Egg Hunt?

Annual Rummage Sale Our Rummage Sale is fast approaching on Friday, April 12, from 8 am – 4 pm and

Saturday, April 13, from 8 am - noon! Please hold on to your donations and bring

them to the church the week of the sale beginning Sunday, April 7. Our Rummage

Sales have made a huge impact on different ministries in the past, and this year it

supports our Uganda Mission in 2020.

Donation ideas for the rummage sale are small appliances, clothing for adults,

children and infants, household items, furniture, books, tools, yard furniture

outdoor/indoor, athletic equipment, or think BIG items like a 4-wheeler or a boat.

We will be selling coffee, water and cookies to the public. Advertising is always a big part of our rummage sale

so please continue to spread the word!

Last Call! SING VIENNA Chorale Coeur d’Alene cordially invites you to immerse yourselves in

the music of Vienna this spring; our concerts SING VIENNA are

offerings of music conjuring up 19th century Vienna in all its

ambiance and glory.

The 70+ member Chorale is accompanied by piano, organ and

chamber orchestra as it presents Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s. Ave

Verum and Regina Coeli, Franz Schubert’s Mass No. 2 in G Major, a

group of Johannes Brahms’ Liebeslieder Waltzes, selections from

Johann Strauss’ Die Fledermaus and – of course – a medley from

Rogers & Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music. It’s a kaleidoscope of

musical riches performed for your enjoyment.

We feature BELLE COEUR, the women's ensemble of Chorale Coeur

d'Alene, in three selections on the concert program: The first, Ola

Gjeilo's Days of Beauty, is accompanied by a string quartet. Following

is Craig Courtney's transcription for women's voices of Franz

Schubert's An die music. And finally, Belle Coeur will sing a delightful

medley of Johann Strauss waltz tunes, capturing the joys of spring.

Coeur d’Alene concerts are Friday March 29, 2019 at 7:00 PM

and Saturday March 30, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran

Church and at St. John’s Cathedral in Spokane at 2:00 PM on Saturday April 6, 2019.

Camperships The snows are receding and our thoughts turn to spring reawaking our world and the promised warmth of

summer to come. What can be better for our youth than summer camp? Hurry! Early bird registration is going

on now at Lutherhaven Ministries – Camp Lutherhaven, Shoshone Mountain Retreat, and Shoshone Creek

Ranch for this season. We have a campership fund here at Peace that is running low and needs a loving touch!

We’ve had a few campers over the last several years, and it’s been our privilege to support them with $100

toward camp costs. If you have been wondering about a great place to make an extra donation, this is certainly

it! Let’s build that fund and help our youth experience the richness of camp ministry! – Lynn Affeldt

Groundskeepers Needed! Hard to believe but, all this white stuff will be gone before we know it and the grass

will start to grow! Since we have no grazing livestock we will have to ask for some

help from you to keep our grounds looking good.

If you were one of our groundskeepers last year, I will leave you on the list unless I

hear otherwise from you. If you have always had a deep desire to mow a pretty

good-sized lawn – now is your chance. Mowing duties should only be assigned 2-3

times through the season. Remember – Many hands make small work! Come ride Big Red!

Craft workshops are held on the fourth Fri of each month from 9 am to

noon at PLC. The crafts we’re making are for this year’s Christmas Bazaar

in Dec. Look for a different display at the church entrance each month

with a sample craft and info. At the March workshop, we made angel

ornaments and double oven mitts. All are welcome!

Ecumenical Food Kitchen Thank you to all who served 45 people at the Ecumenical Food Kitchen in March, and for your kind food and

money donations toward this community outreach. Peace contributed $100 benevolence toward supplies.

support, encourage and build you up. We share struggles, joys, educational

weight loss effort. Your first visit is free; yearly membership is $32 and our

PLC FAMILY PROMISE MINISTRY FOR 2019

Come join us Sunday, April 7, when Peace celebrates our past, present, and future Ministry as we share how PLC

has been blessed through providing a safe and nurturing environment for families in transition.

The Executive Director of North Idaho Family Promise, Cindy Wood, will be providing a message of HOPE – a

message we as Christians cherish. Scripture reminds us how God uses the ordinary to accomplish the

extraordinary in our lives. “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who

have been called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28)

Join us in the fellowship hall after church for cake and coffee as we thank the members of PEACE LUTHERAN

CHURCH for their past and continued support of this vital community ministry.

Following the fellowship time there will be a brief training session for all Family Promise Volunteers to provide

program updates. A light lunch of sandwiches and chips will be provided. All interested in joining the PLC

Family Promise team are welcome!

Support Idaho Students! An event at the CDA Resort, April 5 & 6 includes a silent auction for the IEA

Children's Fund which provides Idaho students with food, clothing, doctor visits,

eyeglasses, etc. If you are able to donate homemade items, gift cards or baskets, antiques, etc., and would like

more information (tax-deductible receipts available), please let Jennifer Murray know. Thanks!

The Village at Orchard Ridge Ken and Rita Birge, our elected delegates to the Orchard’s annual corporation meeting, will be attending on

our behalf on April 25. The Annual Meeting will be one hour and dinner will be provided. The Orchard will be

sharing news to help us understand the impact that our church has in their senior living community by helping

them to provide a faith-based, loving home that honors older adults. Thank you Ken & Rita!

Powerful Tools for Caregivers

Tiffany Pettit, our admissions director, and I will be teaching another Powerful Tools for Caregivers class on

Thursdays, April 11 – May 16, from 2-3:30 pm over at the Grove. If you know of someone who might benefit

Christian Education & Bible Studies Sunday Morning Adult Class – 8:30 AM

Thank you to Steve Hagler who continues to lead a study of Ecclesiastes this month.

Would YOU like to lead the next study? Will it be a topical study, a book from the Bible, something current? Let

summarizing key themes in Biblical Lutheran doctrine. “As for you, continue in what you have learned and firmly

believe, knowing from whom you learned it, and how from childhood you have known the sacred writing s that

are able to instruct you for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.” (2 Timothy 3:14-15)

Ben DeWitt has been cast in Aspire Community Theater's production of The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Owen

DeWitt is hoping to work on the backstage crew for the show. The Hunchback of Notre Dame is a

musical based on Victor Hugo's 1831 novel and is set to a stunning soundtrack with a live choir. The show is

April 19- 28 at the Kroc Center in Coeur d'Alene. Tickets are available at aspirecda.com. If you are interested in

News & Events

Mar Gifts: Thank you to the Frelighs for moving and Cinda for storing Barb Romine’s contributions for the

upcoming Rummage Sale due to her recent move. Gordon Schoonmaker braved the snow and tromped out to the

Man Cave to bring in a Good Friday cross we’ll be using during service, and quilt batting. Sincere thanks to our

youth for a very uplifting worship on March 17, and to all volunteers leading worship and preaching this month.

Your staff and the creators of schedules have been mulling over for some time not publishing schedules with

names, phone numbers, birthdates, etc. when we post the newsletter to our PLC website. In this scamming &

hacking digital age that we find ourselves, we feel it’s best to suspend this practice. You will continue to receive

a complete newsletter via your private email just as before, but there will be a cleaned up version posted to the

website going forward. This means you will have to rely on your email copy to check and see if you’ve been

assigned in any ministry areas. You’ll no longer be able to access this info on our website. What do you think?

The church will be closed on Easter Monday, April 22.

Thank you to Heidi Ely and Rozanne Ryle who have offered to bring Dot Herting & Joan Schroeder to church

on alternating Sundays when they’re not driving Fred Mitchell & Katherine Featherstone. Additional drivers

would be helpful. Please let Rozanne Ryle know if you would like to volunteer too!

Begin your day on a high note with a few reflective moments by getting into God’s Word!

Mon: The Dorcas Quilting Group meets the first and third Monday of the month from 9 am – 1 pm or when the

whimsy takes them! Need: People that can simply pin tops and backs together with batting in between. All

supplies are here. Please contact Cinda Fueller if you would like to help with this great ministry! Chorale CDA

board members meet the fourth Mon at 6 pm.

Tue: Text Study, for the local LCMC pastors, will continue on the first Tuesday of the month from noon to 3 pm.

Thank you to Steve Hagler for continuing to lead the group until Pastor Jon arrives. Chorale CDA rehearses

each Tue from 5-9 pm.

Wed: Genesis Bible study at 10 am with Pr. Gail. Do you want to sing or play an instrument? Music rehearsal

gathers each Wed. Kids Choir is at 4:30 with rehearsal at 6 pm. Confirmation with Pastor Gail begins at 5:30 pm.

Thu: TOPS meets every Thu morning from 8-10 am, and all are welcome. Bible study begins at 11 am led by

Jim Wardlow. The Ramsey Raiders 4-H group meets the fourth Thu of the month at 6 pm.

Fri: Craft Workshop at 9 am on the fourth Fri – come share your crafty talents!

Donation Needs: Our kitchen could use coffee (Lynn gets nervous when we get down to two cans!) along with

Splenda artificial sweetener, real sugar packets, and white vinegar. Please see Lynn in the church office for a

tax-deductible receipt for your very appreciated GIK.

The Post Falls Food Bank received 68+ lbs from Peace in Mar donations – thanks go to Ardella Quaale for

delivering! Did you know our food banks can always use personal care items and pet food donations? You may

recycle your clean, plastic grocery bags and DOZEN egg cartons here for the food banks to reuse!

Lutherhaven Spring Servant Weekend: April 12-14

Love Camp Lutherhaven? Ever been a part of or wanted to help out with our work

weekends? Join us this spring for a new twist on an old tradition…Lutherhaven’s

Spring Servant Weekend. Come by yourself, with your family, your youth group,

or bring a crew of friends to help camp get ready for the summer season. You’ll

also have the opportunity to enjoy the fun of camp together in the evenings and

Saturday afternoon.

Creation Day: April 26, 10 am – 4 pm: Celebrate Our Amazing Creator This Spring!

“The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it!” Psalm 24:1

Join dozens of kids this Earth Day for a day celebrating God’s marvelous Creation! Outdoor stewardship

activities help children explore, appreciate and care for God’s created world and one another. Always a great

and popular day for Kindergarten-8th Grade! High schoolers and adults are encouraged to come as mentors!

Spring Golden Agers’ Day Out: April 30, 10 am – 2 pm

One Of The Best And Most Popular Retreats We Do! Spend a beautiful spring day
