Joyce’s love of art started as a small child, scribbling with crayons, sitting on the floor with her father
who loved to draw. Her parents encouraged her creativity by sending her to art school at the University of Iowa where she received a B.A. in Art History.
After graduation she received commissions to draw historic houses in Waterloo, Iowa, but as a young woman, still felt obligated to work in the family feed business doing public relations work. And that was where she met her husband, Bill. They married, and he joined the company where they worked together until they moved to the South. Joyce’ years in Iowa were followed by many years and adventures in other places from Florida to the Pacific Northwest, and many places in between. And many years later, she feels fortunate to have his children, Gregory and Pamela, and Gregory’s wife, Joyce, still in her life. An invitation from her cousin Kathleen Anderson in Sierra Vista brought Joyce to this Southwest Paradise surrounded on all sides by mountains. She joined the Huachuca Art Association in 2002 and since then has enjoyed painting on Thursdays and teaching art to children.
Joyce considers the artists at HAA friends, and feels fortunate to belong to what she calls “the
best art group in the country”.

March’s Member Demo
March’s Paper Arts
On Saturday March 18, Kuni Blacklock presented a Mosaic demo. She showed an enthusiastic
audience the tools and materials she uses in developing her beautiful mosaics. She demonstrated
mixing and applying grout to a tile piece that she had laid out beforehand. Several of the
members who attended might convince her to do a Mosaic Workshop in the Fall. Pictures
provided by Gabrielle Lafargue
Arlene Ehrenberger generously provided each attendee a kit with all the supplies
to make beads and other art pieces by melting painted Tyvek paper with a heat
gun. We never knew what the results would be. Pictures provided by Gabrielle
Lafargue
