APPLYING YOUR KNOWLEDGEEnhancing your Chemistry degree with a range of student placements

Chemistry at the University of Southampton led the way in offering assessed placements and over 350 students have completed such placements since 1993.Our MChem with 6-month placement, with Medicinal Sciences, and with year-long placement programmes all provide students with the opportunity to experience research in industry or academia beyond Southampton as a contributory part of the degree programmes.

We provide expert assistance in helping students to secure their placement through a series of pre-placement workshops on CVs, interviews, and assessment centres as well as through the efforts of our placements tutor.

6-month placements can be industry anywhere in the world or in an academic research laboratory outside the UK. Industrial placements are usually paid employment, although sponsorship is available to assist students who take up unpaid placements.

Year-long placements must be in industry or in a non-academic research institution and need to be in the UK or elsewhere in Europe so that students can easily return to Southampton to complete some assessments.
