• This document describes interoperability feature Remote Call Control and documents the steps and configurations necessary to test Microsoft Lync Server 2010 Standard Edition’s Lync Client to Remote Call Control (RCC) IP Phones connected to Cisco Unified Communications Manager (Cisco UCM) 8.5(1) using Cisco Unified Presence (CUP) 8.5(2) and Cisco Unified Presence Lync RCC plug-in. These features include Lync Client features, Desktop (DTP) or IP Phone features, Cisco UCM administration, configuration and provisioning and CUP device identification. It aims to provide a good understanding of what works and what does not work in terms of the feature interaction between various components of the Cisco UCM, CUP and Microsoft Lync. It also provides guidance to deployment participants of the limitations, expected behaviors as well as known issues. Please note that this document does not address performance and scalability, which are part of broader criteria for a deployment-ready solution (for more details refer to 8.x SRND: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/srnd/8x/uc8x.html or http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/srnd/8x/presence.html#wp1085051).

• This document represents the testing performed with Microsoft Lync Server 2010 utilizing E.164 numbering throughout. This matches the Microsoft numbering philosophy for the Lync Server 2010 environment.

• The following features were tested with respect to RCC: CUP Lync RCC plug-in, Multiple partitions, Transfers (Consultation, Announced and Single step transfer), Call Forward, Conference using Meet-Me, Hold & Resume, Windows Active Directory (AD) synchronization, Shared line scenarios, Call Park, Call Pickup, Group Pickup, Extension Mobility and Video related test cases.

• An alternative to Microsoft’s Remote Call Control, which increases architectural complexity and has limited features (see below), is Cisco UC Integration™ for Microsoft Lync. This tight integration for Microsoft Lync gives you the benefits of investment protection and reduced complexity delivered by a single, feature-rich call control solution. It takes advantage of a common unified client services framework, so you gain:

1. Increased productivity, to instantly connect with colleagues, partners, and customers from anywhere and have a wide-band audio and high-definition video communications experience with the integrated Cisco IP softphone

2. Streamlined communications, with telephony presence, visual voicemail, communications history, and Cisco Unified IP Phone control from your desktop

3. Enhanced collaboration, allowing you to initiate or escalate into integrated voice, video, and web Cisco Unified MeetingPlace and Cisco WebEx sessions with multiple parties

4. Reduced complexity, through an easy-to-deploy integration and a single-call control architecture

5. Investment protection, so you can make an immediate business impact with Cisco Unified Communications, while protecting investments in existing desktop applications

These are the known limitations, caveats, or integration issues.

• Microsoft Lync 2010 Client user loses phone control when logging out and back into the client. To fix the issue a restart of the CUP SIP Proxy service is required as a temporary workaround. This is a known issue on the Microsoft Lync 2010 Client (Microsoft Bug ID: 302099) and is also tracked in the following Cisco CDETS: CSCto62424. Please check with Microsoft for fix’s expected release date.

• Conferencing: Lync Server 2010 does not support call conferencing, voice or video, through remote call control. Conferencing is available in IP Phone only or Lync Client only call scenarios.

• Meet-Me conference cannot be initiated/setup by dialing from Lync Client using RCC. However joining an existing Meet-Me conference is possible by dialing from Lync Client using RCC. Meet-Me number conferencing should be initiated from IP Phone only and status of the phones is updated in Lync Client.

• Call forward setting on IP phone: Call forward setting made on the Cisco IP phone (desktop), using its soft key button or the Cisco UCM phone configuration page is not reflected by the Microsoft Lync Client, however the opposite is true. Also the Microsoft Lync Client can override any call forward setting configured on the IP Phone and vice versa.

• Microsoft’s Remote Call Control configuration is incompatible with Microsoft’s Enterprise Voice configuration.

• If the CCM Administrator has unassigned associated/disassociated lines for a device (in phone configuration page), the CUP Lync RCC plug-in selection window for a user associated with that device should not show the unassigned associated/disassociated lines as selectable devices for RCC control. There is currently an enhancement defect for this (CSCsy07760).

• Extension Mobility (EM) login is possible only from DTP and is not possible from Microsoft Lync Client.

• Call Park can be initiated only from DTP and not from Microsoft Lync Client. Microsoft Lync Client or DTP can be used to join a call park.

• Transport Layer Security (TLS) connection between CUP and Lync Server 2010: this feature was not tested in this release.

Static Route Configuration

The Lync server uses the static route to match the URI of the incoming client’s SIP message INVITE. The Lync server

references the URI value as the Line Server URI. Follow these steps to build a static route from the Lync server to the CUP

server.

Start > All Programs > Microsoft Lync Server 2010 > Lync Server Management Shell (Run as Administrator)

Enter the following command to verify the current system configuration:

information to the application pool.

Lync Server Listen Port Configuration

Set up the SIP listen port on the Lync server. This is required for incoming SIP traffic from the Cisco Unified Presence server.

Start > All Programs > Microsoft Lync Server 2010 > Lync Server Management Shell (Run as Administrator)

Enter the following command to set the Lync server listening port:

Commit the topology and restart the front-end service.

Start > All Programs > Microsoft Lync Server 2010 > Lync Server Management Shell (Run as Administrator)

Enter the following command to enable the topology:

Enable-CsTopology

Enter the following command to output the topology to an XML file called rcc.xml and save it to the C drive:

Get-CsTopology -AsXml | Out-File C:\rcc.xml

Open the rcc.xml file.

In the Cluster FQDN section, change the IP Address parameter from ‘‘<0.0.0.0>’’ to the IP Address of the

Cisco Unified Presence server.

Save the rcc.xml file.

Enter the following command in the Lync Server Management Shell:

Publish-CsTopology -FileName C:\rcc.xml

Enter the following command to restart the front-end service:

Restart-Service RtcSrv

Lync Server/Client Address Book Updating

With the default server/client settings, the Address Book is not updated right away. To ensure that the Address Book is updated with the latest

users added to the Active Directory and their configurations, force the update on the server side. Then force the Lync 2010 Client to pull down

the latest files to update its local GalContacts.db file.

On Lync Server 2010, enter the following command in the Lync Server Management Shell:

Update-CsAddressBook

This triggers the Lync Server to synchronize current Active Directory information in the SQL database into the downloadable client and device

address book files. Wait 5 minutes for this process to complete.

On Lync Client 2010, execute the following command from the Windows Command Prompt run as an administrator:

reg add HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Communicator /v GalDownloadInitialDelay /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

Setting this value to 0 will force Lync to immediately download the address book instead of randomly selecting a time to check the server.

On Lync Client 2010, if the GalContacts.db and GalContacts.db.idx files already exist, delete them from the user’s profile directory (directory location may vary depending on your Client OS). Make sure you exit and restart the Lync Client, after log in you should see a new set of files downloaded, and you should see the latest updated users appear during a search for contacts.
