TODAY’S GOSPEL MESSAGE Sunday, January 12th

Matthew 3:13-17

“Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him. . .After Jesus was baptized, he came up from the water and behold, the heavens were opened for him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming upon him. And a voice came from the heavens, saying, ‘This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.’”

“Before Jesus began preaching, teaching, and healing throughout Galilee and Judea, he came to John to be baptized. The spirit of God descended upon him and God’s voice called out, ‘This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.’ As Christians, baptized with the Holy Spirit, we are empowered to carry on Jesus’ mission. Let us consider how God calls us to put our faith into action. May God be well pleased.”

“The Motivation of Mission

It was the dimension of mission that gave me such great determination to be a Jesuit: to go out, to go to the missions and proclaim Jesus Christ. I believe this is a feature specific to our spirituality: to go out, to go out to always proclaim Jesus Christ, and to never stay somehow closed in our structures, which are so often transient. This is what motivated me.” —Pope Francis

The Saint John’s Bible is the first handwritten and illuminated Bible commissioned by a Benedictine monastery since the invention of the printing press in the 15th century. Students here at OLMC recently had the opportunity to view a volume of this beautiful Bible.

Now, for our adult community, Caldwell University will be hosting the Heritage Edition of the Gospels and Acts volume of the Bible, a work of art that unites the ancient Benedictine tradition with today’s technology and vision. Join us on Monday, January 27th at 7:30 PM in the Titus Room.

The Saint John’s Bible is on display daily at Caldwell University’s Jennings Library unless it has been reserved for an event.

ACADEMY/ATHLETICS

A Message From Barbara Verdonck, Interim Principal

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome back!

I hope you enjoyed this beautiful season with your families and friends. Personally, I want to thank you for the generous gifts that I received from so many of you. I am truly thankful and appreciative, but I have previously received the greatest gift. This gift is in the form of the supportive families that we are blessed to have at OLMC.

Returning to school in January is always filled with renewed energy and a resolve to make a positive difference in the lives of all the members of our school community. This month we have so much to look forward to. One of the highlights of this month is Catholic Schools Week that begins on Sunday, January 26th. Look for details and a schedule of events in the next few weeks. We will also have the revealing of our new Reading Resource Room. I can’t wait for the students to experience the joys of reading within this new and exciting atmosphere. The winter MapGrowth sessions will begin the week of January 20th – details to follow. Re-registration and new registrations will begin shortly. At this time, if you are interested or know anyone who is interested in any of our programs, please let us know as soon as possible and have them make an appointment for Touring Tuesday. You can contact Mrs. Knowles at 201-567-6491 or [email protected].

So, as we begin the New Year let’s take time to focus once again on our personal goals and to adjust and fine tune the steps we must take to achieve them. I encourage parents to sit down with their children and discuss their performance, celebrate the successes, and develop goals and next steps.

Finally, I wish everyone a very Happy New Year and I look forward to witnessing the many successes and achievements of our students as the year unfolds.

Sincerely, Ms. Verdonck
