ANNUAL REPORT 2017-18 William Butler Yeats said and I quote, “Education is not filling of a pail but the lighting of a fire.” unquote. The fire alighted 53 years ago continues to empower, enlighten and embolden the young minds today. Set up in the year 1964, Tagore International School, East of Kailash formed under the aegis of Tagore Education Society, is a labour of love of two visionaries Dr. Mrs. Hari Sen and Mr. J.K.Sen. Their objective was to provide quality education that produced good citizens, conscious not only of their own rights and obligations but also respect human life and values as leaders and intelligent followers. Ashwin Balaji also scored a perfect 100 in Mathematics. William Butler Yeats said and I quote, “Education is not filling of a pail but the lighting

of a fire.” unquote.

The fire alighted 53 years ago continues to empower, enlighten and embolden the young

minds today. Set up in the year 1964, Tagore International School, East of Kailash formed

under the aegis of Tagore Education Society, is a labour of love of two visionaries Dr. Mrs.

Hari Sen and Mr. J.K.Sen. Their objective was to provide quality education that produced

good citizens, conscious not only of their own rights and obligations but also respect human

life and values as leaders and intelligent followers.

ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS

“Learning is not attained by chance, it must be sought for with ardour and diligence”

Believing in this quote by Abigail Adams, Tagoreans have always led by example. Our

students have been making us proud by their achievements in Board Exams.

In the academic session 2016-17, Rohini Sharma of the Humanities Stream scored 95.8%,

Jyoti Roy Chowdhury of Commerce Stream scored 95.8% while S.Ashwin Balaji of Science

Stream scored 96.8%. S. Ashwin Balaji also scored a perfect 100 in Mathematics.

Many of our students have secured admission at some of the topmost national and

international universities; DTU, IIT, LSR, Pune, State University New York, York

University, Toronto, to name a few, and are well placed today.

The Class X result for the session 2015-16, witnessed fourteen students achieving a grade

point of a perfect ten while in the session 2016-17 eighteen students achieved this feat.

OLYMPIADS Not only within the school, our students across all classes have been winning accolades in

academic competitions and olympiads conducted at the national and international level as

well. Tagoreans scored distinction in the National Science

Talent Search Examination, the international Science, Mathematics, English and Cyber

Olympiad.

Tagoreans firmly stand by this quotation by our guiding light Gurudev Rabindra Nath

Tagore. In the last two years, Tagoreans have left their global imprints and brought laurels

home.

INDO-FRENCH EXCHANGE PROGRAMME

A delegation of 25 students and three teachers from

Colbert High School, L’orient visited school for a

period of 13 days from April 2 to April 14, 2015. The

school team comprising of 22 students and three

teachers went to Colbert High School for a period of

13 days from May 21 to June 3, 2015. This year in

the month of November students of our school went

to France for the exchange programme and students

from France would be visiting us in April,2018. Sindhushree, a students of class 7, gifted her

painting to Mayor of Lyon, France and to the Principal of our partner school.

NASA TRIP

Eleven students of the school accompained by

their teacher, Ms Minakshi Chaudhry went to

USA on ten day tour on May 30, 2017

organized by Astro Tourism India Pvt. Ltd.

The tour aimed at attending a 3 day camp at the

National Aeronautics and Space Administration

(NASA). Childern were curiousto explore the

National Aeronautics and Space Administration

(NASA) and learn various facts about the

gigantic universe and its exploration. Activities

conducted at the Astronaut Training Experience

(ATX) centre trained students necessaryskills

that an astronaut should have. They had a lifetime experience of visiting the Kennedy Space

Centre Visitors Complex where they saw real rockets in the rocket garden and real space

shuttles which have travelled to the moon and the red planet Mars for the first time.

SPORTS ACHIEVERS ‘Success is no accident. It takes hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice

and most of love for what you are doing’

Dalima Chhibber the football prodigy of TIS continues to make us proud.

She featured in NDTV marks for sports anybody can jump campaign in July

2015. This talented young star represented the U-19 Indian Women’s

Football Team as the Captain of the team in the Asian Cup Qualifiers, held at

Amman, Jordan.

Vanshika Rana yet another football star in the making, was the goal

keeper at AFC U-19 qualifiers held at Vietnam. She was the only girl

selected from Delhi. She also participated in 2015 Pacific School Games,

Adelaide, Australia.

Tushar Chhibber participated in the 2nd Delhi state Athletics

Championship where he secured second position in the Triple Jump Event.

He was also selected to represent Delhi Dynamos Football Club in the

Gothia Cup held at Sweden. He also participated in the CBSE National

Athletics Meet held at Vadodra, Gujarat, where he secured first position in

the Triple Jump Event.

Vedant Chaudhary a student of Class IX has won 2 silver medals in CBSE

nationals Under 14 boys category for Skating, 1 silver and 1 bronze medal in

School Games Federation of India Under-17 boys category, 1 silver medal in

Roller Skating federation of India nationals (Under -16) Boys category.

Udit Phogat now a student of Class VIII is a keen skating and swimming

enthusiast. He won a Bronze medal at Central and South Delhi Roller

Skating Championship, 2014, Gold and Silver Medals in Growing Star

Roller Skating Championship, 2014. Gold medal in Central and South

Delhi Roller Skating Championship 2015, Gold medal in 53rd Delhi State

Haardik Arora a budding Snooker enthusiast has made it to top 32 in the

national Snooker Championship held in Pune.

Hrishikesh Parashar an avid tennis enthusiast, Hrishikesh has

ranked 61 in under 14 boys category, 181 in under-16 and ranked

376 under 18 boys category ranked 61 in under-14 (Boys Tennis) A

semifinalist in Under-14 and Under-16 tournament held from 21

August, 2017 to 26 August, 2017. Hrishikesh was also adjudged as

the runner-up in Under-16 Doubles.

Yachika Garg an athlete, footballer is a student of Class XII and a

sporting star in making. She has played in the Subroto Cup. She

represented the school in Zonal Athletics Meet 2017and won a Gold in

5000m, silver in 1550m and Bronze in 800m

Rakshan Takyar of class V won gold in the Teakwondo Fight and Bronze in

the Taekwondo Patterns held at Thyagaraj Stadium

Adi Vishwanath a student of class IV secured the 3rd position in the U-13 boys

category for badminton in Pro Shutter challenge held in Saket Sports Complex

Arinjay Jain of class I won a gold medal in the skating carnival recognized by

the District Roller Skating Association, Gurugram held in May 2017.

He also won bronze medal in the 18th roller sports race 2017 organized at Netaji

Subhash Sports Complex, Jasola

It is a matter of great pride for us to honour some of the young achievers of our school. for

their excellent performance in the field that they excel.

Rhea Parida of Class XII an Odissi dancer has been the receipient Centre for

Cultural Resources and Training National Scholarship. Rhea has also been

recognised as the ‘Outstanding Performer’ of the Odissi dance form in the

entire country by the Ministry of Culture, India

M. Rajita also of Class XII a Bharatnatyam dancer received the reputable

Centre for Cultural Resources and Training (CCRT) Scholarship and an A

grade in the examination conducted by Gandharava Mahavidyalaya.

Ayushi Pal of Class XII, the budding artist was conferred with ‘Ankan Bivakar’

in recognition of her merit in painting by the Bangiya Sangeet Parishad (West

Bengal) Ayushi has several achievements to her name.

Shripat Nepak and Anshuman Bunga, the two students then in

Class VIII have made a preliminary discovery of an asteroid which has

now got recognition from Asteroid Grand Challenge Digital Badging

in the All India Asteroid Search Campaign organised by Space

Technology and Education Pvt. Ltd.

SHREEJA SINGH

Shreeja Singh of class 11 has written a book titled “Words with

Strokes.” It has 35 poems and paintings of hers. The book was

launched on 8 March, 2018.

A student of Class X has been selected by Ministry of Culture, Govt. of

India to represent India at a dance recital at Mombasa , Kenya.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAMMES Aimed at developing student's personality through community service, National Service

Scheme, is a voluntary association of young students of the school working for a school-

community linkage. The programme is organised by the students themselves, and both

students and teachers through their combined participation in community service, get a sense

of involvement in the tasks of nation building. Various programmes undertaken by the school

under the National Service Scheme are as follows:

A Shelter of Love was a project taken by the students

of IX A. Various activities such as slogan writing,

story writing, poster designing and article writing to

create awareness among the students and to sensitise

the mass about the problems faced by the children in

the orphanages were conducted by the students in the

school. Through these activities, they sensitized all on

the hardships faced by the children in the orphan

homes and the challenges that they face.

Through their activity, Learning Together, the

students of IX B mentored the academically weak

students of classes 2 and 3 in subjects like English,

Mathematics, EVS and Hindi. They taught and

mentored their learners as well as prepared them for

their tests. They also focused on improving their

spoken skills. They prepared worksheets, conducted

mock tests and used teaching aids to make teaching-

learning process interesting and effective.

Our students of Class IX C through their project,

‘Helping the Visually Challenged’ had pledged to

support the visually challenged and disadvantaged.

Through their Blindness Awareness Campaign, they

organised various activities and events which included

exploring and learning the Braille script, discussions on

the hardships and problems in the life of the visually

impaired, collection of information about the education

system in blind schools. The students visited the Blind

School in Amar Colony in November 2017, wherein they interacted with the visually

impaired children and came to terms with how they managed their lives and realised the

difference with their own lifestyle.

Students of Class XA learnt the Indian Sign Language from

the teachers of the Noida Deaf Society in order to help the

hearing impaired become contributive partners of the

society. They partnered with the Noida Deaf Society and

tried to sensitise people towards the hearing impaired

through their programme, Serving Humanity. The students

organised an assembly in school where they sang the

National Anthem in the sign language.

The students of X B in association with Helpage India

worked for the disadvantaged elderly through their project

, the 3Cs showing Care, Concern and Commitment for the

Elderly. They visited an old age home, Gharunda at

Chatturpur in November and donated some food.

Various competitions and street plays were organized to

create awareness about the elderly, who have provided

their services and support to the society, but are neglected

at this phase of their lives.

Don’t DISmy ability was a project initiated by the

students of XC who visited NGOs and contributed

clothes and food. They shared their love and concern

for the disabled community. Through their project,

the students tried to sensitise the mass about the

importance of supporting the differently abled people

in the society. They expressed their ideas and views

on the problems pertaining to disability and issues

related to it through articles, debates, posters and

street plays.

Face to Faith, now Generation Global, is a programme

under Tony Blair Faith Foundation. In this programme

students pledge to maintain peace and harmony in the

society and environment. The students of the school

engaged themselves in video conferences with other

students from India, Ukaraine, Pakistan & Philippines

wherein they shared information about their culture,

society, languages, festivals, etc.

EVENTS ORGANISED BY THE SCHOOL

The Annual Book Week in the school was organized

to celebrate the joy of reading. Inter-class activities

and workshops were organised during the week to

foster creativity among students. An Open House on

the final day of the week saw parents pouring in to

have a glimpse of the creativity of children through

the projects on display and the theme- based bulletin

boards.

Tagore International School hosted TAGFEST – 2017,

the second edition of their Annual Inter - School Art

and Drama Festival on August 30, 2017. The theme for

the fest this year was ‘Elixir: The alchemy of life’

which celebrated the integration of imagination and

creativity of the children. The competition was open for

the students of classes III-XII. This unique festival

aimed to provide participants from 26 eminent schools

of Delhi with a platform where they could mix the thrill

of competition with a great learning experience.

The festival featured a plethora of events that included competitions as creative as Tech Art,

Canvas Shoes Painting, Charcoal Drawing to something as challenging as Cartoon Story,

Doodling, and Movie Making. It was interesting to watch students competing in events as

astounding as Creator and the Creations where eminent authors of English Literature were

made to converse with the characters created by them. The school wore a festive atmosphere

and one could witness the talent and theatrical prowess of the young artists in events such as

Soliloquy and Nukkad Natak.

TAGMUN And Youth Parliament

The school since the last two years has been organising Youth

Parliament and Model United Nations to develop and hone

leadership potential in our students.

Science and Maths Week were observed with the aim to

inculcate analytical temprament, critical thinking and

innovation among students. The week was observed to

celebrate the importance of the subjects in the day to day

life.

Spicmacay, in its effort to preserve and promote Indian

cultural music and spread awareness among children

about the rich musical traditions of India, introduced

Rahmat Khan Langa to the children of the school, the

renowned exponent of Rajasthani folk music, Recently on

November 17, 2017 the students witnessed Purulia Chau

Dance performance by Shri Chinibas Mahato.

Annual Day, Tagore International School, East of Kailash

celebrated its Annual Day on 8-9th

December 2017, in the

school premises. The two day extravaganza saw students of

Classes VI to XI presenting a spectacular theatrical

interpretation of Jules Verne’s Classic ‘Around the World in

Eighty Days’. Directed by renowned theatre personality,

Stephen Marazzi, the play left the audience spellbound and exhilarated.

Career Fair

A kaleidoscopic perspective of the various career paths is

indeed essential for the young students ready to embark their

career journey, therefore; the school organised a career fair

on 3 November, 2017.

The fair was organised for the parents and students of classes

XI & XII and eleven industry experts who excel in their

fields addressed the students. A series of wonderful and

informative career panels provided the students a glimpse into the various career fields. 19

universities and organisations participated in the fair and guided the students about the courses,

eligibility criteria, scholarship etc.

Astronomy Day

On January 17,2017, the astronomy club students of Module I and Module II celebrated

Astronomy Day in school as part of a club activity. Astronomy day is marked as the successful

culmination of the astronomy club running in the school. On this day the students of astronomy

club conducted various activities, observations and experiments for the students of class V -

IX in the school where they showcased their learning from the club sessions they have

participated.

Medical Camp

Our Helping Staff will have a free medical checkup on March 20, 2018. The Medical Camp

will be organized through Apollo Hospital.

Shelf Indulgence

In order to engage students and contribute to the reading

culture at school, Class VIII student cabinet under the

guidance of Principal ma’am, started a book club named Shelf

Indulgence on October 28, 2017

Beyond Ordinary -With a vision to make this school a bully free zone,

‘Beyond Ordinary’ an anti-bullying committee was founded under the

guidance of Principal ma’am. Their motto ‘All different All equal’ aims

to inculcate the true spirit of inclusion.

Safety Club It is an initiative of students of class 9th and 10th.

The members are students who strive to keep themselves and their

fellow Tagoreans free of any danger.
