DuPage Bar Foundaon Annual Report 2016/17 Page 1 Letter from the President As we celebrate our twentieth anniversary, I am honored to be the President of the DuPage Bar Foundation Board of Directors. The Foundation has grown exponentially since it was established and I am very excited about its future. Under the leadership of our past Presidents, we continued to plan for the future, grew the Foundations capital base, and expanded our outreach to our community and those in need. As a Board, we are committed to doing so this and every year. We are asking everyone to consider contributing to the Foun- dation in some way: attend our events, donate to our Ambassador Scholarship fund, establish a Hosted Scholar- ship, turn your credit card points into gift cards and donate those for one of our fundraising raffles. There is no such thing as a donation that is too small. Every dollar helps those who may not otherwise have access to the judicial system, assists local non-profit organizations in serving their clients when State or Federal funds have been cut, and helps those coming into the legal profession offset some of their massive student loan debt. In the last twenty years, the Foundation has grown by 3,787% (yes you read that number correctly) from invest- ments, donations and contributions by our generous members and legal community. The Foundation has award- ed $119,500.00 in scholarships to law students, we have given grants of $139,705.00 to local non-profits, estab- lished new Hosted Scholarships and established a Judge Bauer scholarship. I want to thank everyone that has served on the Board, come to an event, donated, promoted the Foundation and given of their time and energy over the last twenty years. There is no way the Foundation could have achieved all it did without everyones support and dedication. I look forward to my year as President and pledge to do everything I can to support justice in DuPage, maintain the integrity of our legal profession, contribute to the education of our future lawyers and facilitate charitable acts to serve our community. I ask that you all pledge to do the same and help us make this Foundation all it can be. Sincerely, Raleigh D. Letter from the President

As we celebrate our twentieth anniversary, I am honored to be the President of

the DuPage Bar Foundation Board of Directors. The Foundation has grown

exponentially since it was established and I am very excited about its future.

Under the leadership of our past Presidents, we continued to plan for the

future, grew the Foundation’s capital base, and expanded our outreach to our

community and those in need. As a Board, we are committed to doing so this

and every year. We are asking everyone to consider contributing to the Foun-

dation in some way: attend our events, donate to our Ambassador Scholarship fund, establish a Hosted Scholar-

ship, turn your credit card points into gift cards and donate those for one of our fundraising raffles. There is no

such thing as a donation that is too small. Every dollar helps those who may not otherwise have access to the

judicial system, assists local non-profit organizations in serving their clients when State or Federal funds have

been cut, and helps those coming into the legal profession offset some of their massive student loan debt.

In the last twenty years, the Foundation has grown by 3,787% (yes you read that number correctly) from invest-

ments, donations and contributions by our generous members and legal community. The Foundation has award-

ed $119,500.00 in scholarships to law students, we have given grants of $139,705.00 to local non-profits, estab-

lished new Hosted Scholarships and established a Judge Bauer scholarship.

I want to thank everyone that has served on the Board, come to an event, donated, promoted the Foundation and

given of their time and energy over the last twenty years. There is no way the Foundation could have achieved

all it did without everyone’s support and dedication. I look forward to my year as President and pledge to do

everything I can to support justice in DuPage, maintain the integrity of our legal profession, contribute to the

education of our future lawyers and facilitate charitable acts to serve our community. I ask that you all pledge to

do the same and help us make this Foundation all it can be.

Sincerely,

Raleigh D. Kalbfleisch

Who do we help?

This past year $14,500 was awarded in scholarships!

William J. Bauer Scholarship:

Winners of this scholarship embody the

qualities of the Hon. William. J. Bauer,

Judge of the United States Court of

Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. These

qualities include unquestioned integri-

ty; a passion for finding legal solutions

to human problems which are fair and

just; and a profound understanding of

the need for professional civility.

Ambassador Scholarship: Winners must show a financial need, academic achievement,

have a connection to DuPage County and completed one full semester of law school.

Hosted Scholarship—The law firms of Woodruff, Johnson & Evans and Mulyk

Laho Law hosted a scholarship in their names. Through a donation to DBF, they were able

to award scholarships in their names, receive recognition at the Installation Dinner and pro-

mote their scholarship through their marketing.

What is a Hosted Scholarship?

As a 501(c)3 organization, the DBF can assist DCBA members in setting up a scholarship in memory or honor

of an individual or firm. As the sponsor of the scholarship, you can provide some direction as to the qualifica-

tions of student(s) you would like to recognize and the DBF takes it from there. Hosted Scholarships can be a

way for your firm to give back as well as increase your visibility in the community.

$6,000 was awarded to local non-profits in grants!

Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children, CASA received $2,000 to underwrite

the expenses for CASA’s semi-annual Advocate Pre-service Training.

National Alliance of Mental Illness, NAMI received $1,000 for education and supportive service

programs to individuals and families dealing with mental illness.

Family Shelter Service, FSS received $3,000 to support 1000 clients, and 5000 non-client victims.
