Rogers Park Montessori School believes all of its students carry within them the adults they will become. Our mission is to create an environment where children are inspired to reach their highest potential as individuals and learners by following the Montessori philosophy of education, which at its core, strives to produce vital members of the global community.

Guiding all our practices is the education and promotion of peace within self, in relationships and within the world.

Our vision is that each graduate will embody the following values:

• Pride in academic achievement• A joy and thirst for discovery• Self-reliance• A sensitive and respectful regard for others• The ability to collaborate• An understanding of the interdependence of all that exists within the global environment• A sense of place and contribution in his/her community• The ability to think analytically

"The whole of mankind is one and only one, one race, one class and one society." - Maria Montessori

.DIVERSITYWe believe that having a diverse community of students, parents, faculty, and board members representative of the broader community in Chicago, will foster in our students the ability to value and respect the differences among us, leading them to become more thoughtful and capable citizens of our community and world.

T f'T TTT

We believe that peace within self and in relationships begin with a sense of belonging and our ability to accept and embrace others. Our inclusive environment is fostered not only by the faculty and staff at RPMS, but by the students' sincere regard for each other as classmates and community members.

If_ CULTURAL '!!'COMPETENCYWe believe that our world is interconnected and our students, in order to be vital members of the global community, must build cultural competency to navigate that world with respect, empathy, and depth of understanding.

• EQUITY ANDJUSTICE

We believe that every human being should be treated with fairness and dignity. We recognize that our world, both locally and globally, at times, falls short of this ideal, and we believe our children should learn skills to help make the world a more just and equitable place for all.

At its root, and underlying these principles, is our Rogers Park Montessori School Mission and dedication to peace education.

A word from our Board PresidentThe 2015-16 school year brought excitement and energy to RPMS as we seamlessly moved into our new expanded space. Our middle school students now enjoy plenty of space to work both independently and collaboratively, and our new classrooms in the elementary programs expand our children’s space to work, learn, and grow. Our newly retrofitted gymnasium has created a performing arts space where students’ hard work culminates with amazing productions audience members can hear, see, and immensely enjoy. The Spring 2016 production of The Lion King, performed by our middle school students, was a thrill for all, both the performers and the audience. Thank you to our Principal, Debbie, and all the faculty and staff for making the transition to the expanded space feel seamless for the students and parents.

We look ahead to our 50th year of the school’s founding during the 2016-17 school year with a recommitment to diversity and inclusion at RPMS in concert with the mission of our school to provide exemplary Montessori education.

Please join me in gratitude for our school and in looking forward to celebrating the school’s 50th anniversary together.

Warmly,

Danielle LoevyBoard President

2015-2016 Principal ReportThis year we entered our 49th year as a community. As we look for-ward to celebrating our 50th year anniversary, we take one more pause to look back on 2015-16, a year characterized by relative calm.

The 2015-16 school year was an extraordinary time of engagement throughout our community. From our dedicated faculty and staff, to our independent and vibrant students, to our devoted parents: it is inspiring to be a part of this community on a daily basis. Here are a few high-lights worth noting:

• It was our first year to fully utilize our expandedenvironment, allowing our middle school program tooperate in a space conducive to adolescent learningand innovation, reconstituting our library, and creatingdedicated spaces for art, drama, and music programming.

• We were able to give focus to our diverse communitythrough creating resources, support and outlets for ourparent and faculty Diversity and Inclusion Committees andAffinity Groups.

• Our enrollment ended in 2014-15 at 385 growing to 397in 2015-16. We are projected to grow to 405 in 2016-17. Ourgrowth continues to be measured and strategic, with theemphasis being on filling in the additional Lower Elementary (6-9) and Upper Elementary (9-12) classrooms adding agrade level each year until the three- year cycle is complete.

• The Banyan Alumni Association was established andintroduced to our school community by Emmy Brady (classof 2012) at graduation this year. We are thrilled to have aformalized association, which all our graduates, familymembers, and past students can stay connected to RPMSin meaningful ways.

• Instilling resourcefulness, adaptability, and critical thinking, along with fostering social innovation are key elementsof a Montessori program. The school is committed to nurturing these qualities, and this year expansion of STEAM(Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) relatedactivities have successfully been integrated in daily learning.

This is an exciting time to be involved with Rogers Park Montessori School. As you will see in the pages that follow, it is more than a hand-ful of people who make this happen. To all our students, faculty, staff, parents, grandparents, alumni, Board of Directors, and friends, you make RPMS a unique environment for learning and have created a culture that enables our community to thrive. Please continue your involvement as we embark on the next chapter in our community’s story as we enter our 50th year.

In peace,

Debbie Senoff-LangfordPrincipal

“The child who has felt a strong love for his surroundings and for all living creatures, who has discovered joy and enthusiasm in work, gives us reason to hope that humanity can develop in a new direction.” Maria Montessori

Financial Year in ReviewFor the fiscal year ending August 30, 2016 (FY16), Rogers Park Mon-tessori School maintained its outstanding financial health due to contin-ued strong operations, first-rate faculty and staff, management’s stellar leadership, and the ongoing commitment and generosity from our RPMS families – both with their time, and their financial resources. This, most importantly, translates to great promise for our school’s continued excel-lence in creating an environment where all children are inspired to reach their highest potential as individuals and learners.

We continue to grow our enrollment toward our long-term growth plan and to fill out and optimize the use of our amazing, newly expanded building. We remain on track to reach our steady state enrollment goal, including the expansion of the middle school and two new elementary classrooms. At the start of school year 2015-16, middle school students settled into the Aspen classroom, and the newly opened elementary class-rooms, Walnut and Poplar, began with their inaugural groups of fourth and first graders, respectively. In addition, the entire student body was able to enjoy the new library, dedicated art, drama and music rooms, renovated gym, and rooftop play space.

The Board of Directors and the Business, Finance, and Audit Committee (BFAC) will continue to support our outstanding leadership, faculty and staff in their work to provide a world-class Montessori education for our children.

While we continue to meet and exceed our plans, fundraising remains an integral part of our operating budget. In FY16, our families, grand-parents, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends joined together to contribute $177,036 to the Annual Fund, with 86% of our current families (up from 68% in FY15), 70% of our faculty and staff, and 100% of the Board par-ticipating. Thank you to the entire RPMS community for your extraordi-nary support.
