Celebrate the Future
“I believe it’s vitally important to help our youth understand the giving process…everything from fundraising to grantmaking to the great feeling one gets from helping others.
These young leaders debate and award grants to worthy charities, tackling issues that are important to young people. That’s why I have supported the foundation’s Youth In Philanthropy program every year since it began.”
Doug Stewart

Let’s Celebrate Fifteen Years of Successful Stewardship for Community Giving
The following annual report highlights The Community Foundation’s growth since 1997, capped off by the milestones of our 2012 fiscal year. As more and more people come to know The Community Foundation, they realize it
can be the ideal vehicle for their philanthropic goals. We would like to thank you and the many others that have helped The Community Foundation grow and prosper.
We hope you enjoy seeing our founding board members. These individuals had the vision to recognize in 1997 that community foundations are a powerful tool for building sustainable charitable community assets. You’ll also find examples of The Community Foundation’s funds and see their long-term results.
In fiscal year 2012, we added over $1 million dollars to the region’s charitable resources through gifts to existing funds and new funds. As of June 30, 2012 we had reached an asset size of $8,489,231. Last year, The Community Foundation gave away more grants and scholarships than in any prior year with a total distribution of $638,501 to our community!
The Community Foundation’s success is due to the dedicated support of our donors, volunteer board, committee members, and staff. We are grateful for your support and hope you remain interested in helping The Community Foundation grow.
Sincerely,
W. Richmond McDaniel Teri McNallyPresident Executive Director

“Fifteen years ago, we saw how other regions were taking action to build charitable endowment and we believed that our community needed to step up – to provide permanent opportunities and address unmet needs.
We asked ourselves, ‘What would our region be like in the future if we weren’t willing to organize, support and grow a community foundation?’”

A Celebration of You A Celebration of Permanent PhilanthropyPermanent Philanthropy
Giving through The Community Foundation is easy. We offer a wide range of gifting options that you can use to establish or add to a named charitable fund. Since we are recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a public charity, you are
provided with the maximum tax benefits allowed by law and we handle all the ongoing administrative burdens.
You may add to a fund at any time and in any amount. Gifts of cash, securities, real estate and life insurance can be used to establish a fund. Your fund may be used to honor or memorialize an individual or family, or to commemorate an anniversary or special event.
You might choose to leave charitable assets to a Community Foundation fund in your will. After assuring that your loved ones have been provided for, you can use a variety of assets such as pension plans, life insurance or the proceeds from the sale of property, for charitable purposes.
Your gift can be used to accomplish almost any charitable goal, including: establishing a scholarship fund, creating an endowment for a particular charity or cause, or leaving a family legacy that allows your children and grandchildren to continue the tradition of charitable grantmaking. If you have considered establishing a private foundation, a fund with The Community Foundation offers many distinct advantages. Contact The Community Foundation today to begin your own legacy of giving.
The Community Foundation of the Rappahannock Region is a nonprofit, public charity established by local leaders to address the current and future needs of the people of Stafford, Spotsylvania, King George and Caroline Counties and the City of
Fredericksburg. We have created a collection of many different charitable funds, each separately accounted for, and each with its own design and purpose. A typical fund is established with a gift that is invested in perpetuity and the earnings are used to make annual grants throughout the Rappahannock River region.
The Community Foundation is a devoted advocate for the vitality and well-being of the Rappahannock River region. Since 1997, The Community Foundation has offered creative donor services to help generous people achieve their charitable goals.
We’re here to provide a simple, powerful and highly personal approach to philanthropy. We offer a variety of giving tools to help people take charitable action in a way that lasts forever.

Scholarship FundsInvest in Deserving StudentsDonors help students achieve their dreams through education by establishing or contributing to a scholarship fund. Community Foundation staff help donors establish guidelines for students to apply for financial assistance through the fund. Scholarship eligibility might be based on a student’s achievement or a demonstration of financial need. Some scholarships focus on community involvement, a commitment to a particular field of study or demonstration of leadership ability. Some donors choose to meet or correspond with students after the selection process is complete.
