• Essential oils are chemically complex. A single oil may have 80-300 different constituents. • Constituents can be affected by
the part of the plant used, soil condition, fertilizer (organic or chemical), geographical region, climate, altitude, harvest season & methods, and distillation process. • Essential Oils can be distilled or
extracted in different ways which will have a dramatic effect on their chemistry & medicinal action.
From Healing Oils of the Bible by David Stewart, Ph.D.“You can find oils in retail stores whose labels say things like ‘100% pure, organic, and natural.’ They may even say ‘therapeutic grade.’ Most of the time, this would be an outright lie, but a legal one since no government agency has defined the term ‘therapeutic’ and no government agency, as yet, regulates the content of labels on essential oils in a way that would remedy such deceptions. As for ‘100%’ that quantitative term does not really mean 100%. In some cases 100% can mean as little as 10% of the real stuff while the rest may be a colorless, odorless petrochemical. Yet this is tolerated as okay in the retail trade.”
Essential Oils Pet Basics
• Due to their sensitive noses, the smell and impact can be overpowering for our pets. • Aversion to essential oils might occur when an animal is being
introduced to an oil too quickly. • The slower you introduce the oils the better.
ALWAYS TRY THE OIL ON YOURSELF BEFORE YOU USE IT ON YOUR PET!
• Oils are species specific – what works for you may not work for your dog, what works for a dog may not work for a cat
How to use Essential Oils with Pets
• Diffusing – Ensure your animal is able to move away from the diffuser it they do not like it.
• Petting – Take 1 drop of oil in your hands, rub them together until no residue is left on your palm & pet your animal. Avoid the sensitive areas of their face, nose, or the bottoms of their feet.
• Internally – Start with 1 drop in their water or food. You can mix with NingXia Red, coconut oil, honey or red agave.
• Indirect – Place 1 drop in your palm, rub in, and then rub onto something your pet
can approach (bedding or the perch of a bird cage).
• Water Misting – Add 4 oz. of water and 1 drop of oil into a glass spray bottle. Shake well & then mist.
• Oil Misting – Mix an oil with a carrier oil in a glass spray bottler & spray your pet. (1:4 ratio)
• Topically – Allow 1 drop of oil to drip right onto the animal
• Raindrop – Similar to the human raindrop technic were you drip oils along the spine from tail to head
Remember your pets will pick up on your energy – maintain a positive attitude when applying oils.

• Sneezing• Coughing• Diarrhea• Itching• Squinty Eyes • Increased Respiratory Rate• Redness around the eyes• Depressed

To Do & Not to Do
To Do• Always use a carrier oil like
V-6, olive oil, coconut oil, etc.• Use small amounts of oil• Dilute “hot” oils (Clove,
Thieves & Cinnamon)• Mix with a carrier
• For Cats: start with a toothpick dipped into the oil and then diluted in a fatty oil• For Dogs: start with 1 drop
Not to Do• Do not apply to face, feet, or
nose of your pet.• If you would not use the oil
yourself, do not use it on your pet.• Do not use water to dilute
the oils – this only drives the oil further into the skin• NEVER put oil down the ear
canal or in the eyes of the animal.
