Prep Letterland Parade On Wednesday our Prep Community dressed up as their favourite Letterland characters, parading in front of a large crowd in the Multi. Mrs Brown facilitated a terrific session as she introduced students in their costumes and helped to support letter recognition and sounds. Many thanks to the parents and friends who supported this annual Mano event – one that many older students recalled fondly from their Prep year. Our Preps have a lot going on at present – their Minibeast incursion on Monday 30th July and celebrating their 100th day of school on Monday 6th August.

Trivia Night Fundraiser – Saturday 28th July This Saturday evening our fundraising team will deliver what promises to be a fun and memorable school event. With tickets selling out very quickly the 140 attendees will participate in a range of trivia related activities and questions. This community event aims to provide parents and friends of Mano with a positive experience and to also be a successful fundraiser. I thank the volunteer parent helpers who have spent many hours to make this event possible.

School Photos – Tuesday 31st July On this day individual students can have their photo taken and also in families groups if requested. Orders must be placed online and envelopes returned on or before Tuesday 31st July. Please contact the Office if you need a new envelope or a family envelope. You must have a unique Shoot Key code for each student and family order.

We Want Our Parents To Tell Us What They Think! Government schools are conducting a survey to find out what parents think of their school. The Parent Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training that is conducted amongst a sample of randomly selected parents. It is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of parents’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour and student engagement. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies. Randomly selected parents have been invited to participate in this year’s survey via email on Monday 23rd July. All responses to the survey are anonymous. This year the Parent Opinion Survey will be conducted from Monday 23rd July to Sunday 26th August. The survey will be conducted online, only takes 10-15 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time within the time period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. The

online survey will be available in a range of languages other than English. These include: Arabic, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Chin (hakha), Hindi, Japanese, Somali, Turkish, Punjabi and Greek. The survey results will be reported back to the school at the end of September. We use these results to ensure that we are meeting the needs of the school community in a variety of areas. Please keep an eye on your inbox for an email from the school inviting you to participate.

Parents Reporting Absences Just a reminder that new regulations for schools starts this term that require us to make same day contact if a child is away from school unexplained. Parents with children who have not contacted the school to let us know why their child is absent will receive an SMS asking them to contact the school. You can use Compass to notify of an absence or contact the Office on 5229 9643.

Morning Arrivals Children do not need to arrive at school earlier than 8:50am. If you require an earlier arrival please book into Out of School Hours Care with Camp Australia. The temperature has been and will continue to be very low and teachers who are rostered on for before school yard duty commence this at 8:50am. Let's encourage children to stay warm at home until they can coordinate to arrive after 8:50am.

Supporting ‘Walk to Unite Against Homelessness’ I have been asked to bring to our attention this special event coming up in the Geelong region. In 2017 the ‘Walking Home’ event supported by the Salvation Army had over 400 walkers on the path from Queenscliff to Geelong. The total walk distance is 37 kms but walkers can select shorter options. This event coincides with Homelessness Week and can help bring awareness of the chronic issue of homelessness in the Barwon Region. Want to know more and how to help, how to sponsor a walker? Check out - https://secure.salvosfundraising.org.au/registrant/EventHome.aspx?eventid=50735&langpref=en-CA&Referrer=direct%2fnone#&panel1-2 We heard from Emily in MB at Assembly on Monday about her involvement in the walk. There is a collection jar at the Office should you want to donate to Emily who is participating in the walk.

CHANGES TO SIGNING STUDENTS IN/OUT AT THE OFFICE

When signing a student in late or leaving early you no longer need to use the iPad at the Office. Please see an Office staff

member to have your child signed in/out and continue to collect a Pass In/Pass Out Card to give to your child’s teacher. It is

important that any students arriving late or departing early are accompanied by a parent/guardian.

We need to keep our attendance records accurate in case of emergency.

Manifold Heights PS Week beginning 23rd July 2018

Coordinator: Georgie Petrovski

Hi Everyone, This past week we have done some really exciting things in the OSHC room. In before school care we went on a scavenger hunt for sticks and rocks to paint. It is a great way to make use of natural resources and turn them into beautiful art. We all

worked together to make cool patterns and pictures on our rocks. Kinetic sand has been a favourite the week. We created a game where we moulded shapes out of the sand and had to guess the object. There has been lots of imaginative play with spare cardboard boxes and creations made from them. The children made their own town using the boxes. This is a great lesson on how to recycle in a creative and fun way!

OSHC Registrations If you looking for registration, just log. www.campaustralia.com.au. Just reminding parents if your child is not attending the OSHC program on any day they are booked, you must let us know via phone or school office as we are to follow correct pro-

cedures in locating children who have not shown up. This will involve calling parents, additional contact with parents, then if not located the police. So please ensure you communicate if your child is not attending the OSHC program. Thanks. Georgie & Maddie
