Preamble

GIDC Degree Engineering College (GDEC) at village Abrama, Navsari, is a joint venture of

Government of Gujarat & Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation(GIDC), Gandhinagar

under Public Private Partnership(PPP) scheme. The institute was established in 2012 and is

managed by GIDC Education Society, Gandhinagar. The institute offers UG courses in

Mechanical, Civil, Automobile, Computer and Electrical branch. The institute is approved by

AICTE, New Delhi and affiliated to GTU, Ahmedabad. The vision of the institute is to grow

as a premier education and research institute in the field of engineering with global view

point and serving with world class standards conferring excellence to the engineering

products through dedicated and competent engineers.

Lamp Lighting

The Short Term Training Program (STTP) inaugural commenced with Lamp Lightening by

C.A. Vinodchandra Desai-Trustee Member, Dr. N. D. Sharma- Principal, GIDC Degree

Engineering College, Prof. Archana M. Nayak, Convener STTP and Head Computer

Engineering Department, Prof. Kaushik S. Patel, Co-Ordinator STTP and Asst. Professor,

Computer Engineering Department.

Welcome Speech

Dr. N. D. Sharma Principal, GIDC Degree Engineering College welcomed all the guests and

Participants. In addition, he gave brief introduction about Speaker and invited Guests.

Furthermore he acquaints about college and college activities. He motivated participants to

get the maximum benefit from the STTP.

Key Note Address

C.A. Vinodchandra Desai-Trustee Member, has delivered blessing address. He encouraged

participants to actively participate and learn new technologies with Morden era. He motivated

participants to developed android application based on innovative idea. In addition, he

motivated participants to approach their developed application to commercial platform to

show case their innovation. He added that everyone should developed theme of “Think

Globally, Act Locally and Commit Personally” in their life.

Introduction

Prof. Archana Nayak, convener STTP and Head of Computer Department, introduce about

the STTP. She gave brief information about Android operating system. She summarise that,

as of May 2017, it has over 2 billion monthly active users, the largest installed base of any

operating system, and as of June 2018, the Google Play store features over 3.3 million apps.

She added that by 2020, the mobile ecosystem is expected to employ some 15 million

people globally.

Expert Sessions by the Invited Expert Guests

Expert Dhaval A. Mehta, Team Leader, HKSOFTRONIX Vapi gave brief introduction about

an Android operating system. Additionally, he explained about android architecture, android

app lifecycle and how apps interact with smartphone hardware. He also explained about tools

that are used to develop and android app such as Android Studio and Genymotion. During

Hands on session participants developed their very first android application through guidance

Dhaval Mehta sir. Participants were then made aware about various layout that can be used to

develop android application and developed simple UI driven interactive app.

Prof. Pragnesh Patel, Lecturer of Government Polytechnic for Girls, Surat, conducted

Interactive hands on session on Shared Preferences in Android Applications. He teaches

participants about utilisations of Intents and Activity in android applications. In addition,

Prof. Kushal Patel conducted hands-on session on various Android Layouts and UI Controls

and its application in various android Apps.

Prof. Kaushik S. Patel conducted Interactive hands on session on SQLite Database

manipulation in Android Application. Participants learn how data can be inserted, deleted in

Applications using SQLite Database. In addition, Prof. Brijesh Patel conducted session on

utilisation of GPS and Google map in Android application. Participants used their mobile

phone to run their developed applications. Prof. Beijesh Patel conducted hands on session on

AsyncTask and Read/Write Data to/From Webserver in an Android App. Participants learn

how data can be inserted, deleted, updated on database that is live on webserver through

Android Apps using Web Services. In addition, Prof. Tejas Patel gave brief information about

Firebase and its application. Participants developed an Android app that updates live data

to/from cloud in Android apps.

Expert Sandip Kalola, Head project manager and Mr. Jay Shah, Mobile Developer,

TwoWords Solutions Engineering, Navsari conducted hands on session on basics of

accessing a android hardware like camera, sensors etc. in Android apps. In addition, he gives

brief information about publishing android app on Google Play Store. Participants learns

steps to follow while uploading their developed applications in Google Play Store.

Vote of Thanks

At end of the session Prof. Kaushik S. Patel, Co-ordinator of this STTP share vote of thanks

and appreciations to all the participants for their time and effort to learn the basic android

programming. In addition, he thanked to all who made this STTP a successful one.

About 59 participants from various Degree and Diploma colleges participated in this STTP

enthusiastically.
