Did you know that more than 1,100 children sleep homeless in North Texas each night? Join us for our 25th Anniversary Celebration as we come together to improve the lives of homeless children in North Texas. Together we can help our homeless children conquer adversity and forge a path to a better future.

About Captain Hope’s Kids Since 1989, Captain Hope’s Kids (CHK) has been meeting the critical needs of homeless children in North Texas. In 2013 alone, CHK provided over 46,000 homeless children and 50+ local agencies with critically needed items such as diapers, personal hygiene products, school uniforms, etc. CHK also hosts programs such as spring break camps, holiday parties, and water park excursions for the homeless children in North Texas and their families, allowing the homeless children a chance to escape the shelter life and just be kids. The number of homeless families with children has increased by 36% in Dallas County alone, and the demand for critically needed items has increased in lockstep. Together we can make a difference in these children’s lives!

Website Logo Placement: The vertical placement of sponsor logos will be determined by sponsorship level and the order in which sponsorship agreements are executed.

Registration Materials: All materials will be reviewed to ensure that they do not disparage anyone, including Captain Hope’s Kids, its supporting organizations, community members or any of the event sponsors. Shipping instructions for registration materials will be provided to all sponsors no later than 25 days prior to the delivery deadline. All registration materials MUST be received by the deadline to ensure inclusion in the bags.

Actor, Author, Director and Producer Academy Award Winning Actress, Author and Activist

When 12-year-old Marlee Matlin met Henry Winkler, one of the most recognized actors in the world, they instantly struck a special bond. Matlin was attending the Center on Deafness, a community theater where she began acting at age seven. Winkler and his wife visited the Center after he received fan mail from the students. There they saw Matlin perform and were blown away by her performance. Backstage, Winkler enthusiastically told Matlin to follow her dream of becoming a professional actress.

Although her parents never discouraged Matlin from acting, they were convinced Hollywood would never accept a profoundly deaf actress. Concerned for her future, they asked Winkler not to encourage her. Winkler refused. His passion for supporting others was the result of a lifetime struggle with undiagnosed dyslexia;; told he was both “lazy and stupid” as a child, he was in fact neither. A champion for children of all abilities, he mentored Matlin’s subsequent breakout career from theater to film.

At age 21, Matlin became the youngest recipient of the Best Actress Oscar – one of only four actresses to receive that honor for their film debut. Oscar in tow, Matlin found her way to Winklers’ front door and asked if she could stay for a week until she found a place to settle. Two years later she was still living with the Winklers, who consider her their adopted daughter to this day.

Winkler and Matlin delight audiences with an intimate dialogue revealing their profound connection and individual journeys. Through humorous anecdotes, inspirational life lessons and moving stories, Winkler and Matlin explore themes of overcoming adversity and believing in oneself. Like most family members, Winkler and Matlin interrupt each other – but often to finish one another’s sentences. Their magical bond and engaging chemistry is enhanced by their shared belief that anything is possible if you follow your dreams.
