The most famous pharaoh of the Old kingdom was Khufu

•In the Old kingdom (2686-2160 BC), the Egyptians built the Pyramids as tombs for their pharaohs.

First stone pyramid was built (3rd Dynasty)

Hatshepsut became pharaoh ( 18th Dynasty

Around 2300 BC pyramid building stopped

•The Old kingdom was a period in Egyptian history that lasted for about 500 years, from about 2700-2200 BC.•The Old Kingdom is famous for the large number of pyramids, which were constructed at this time as the burial places of Pharaohs

•The Middle Kingdom, was a period of order and stability which lasted to about 1750 BC. •It has 12 dynasties•In this time the pharaohs could not keep up with building and maintaining pyramids

•Ahomose’s rise to power marked the beginning of Egypt’s 18th dynasty. •The New Kingdom, lasted from about 1550 to 1050 BC•The great Pharaohs included Queen Hatshepsut (the famous female Pharaoh), Akhenaten, Tutankhamun, Tuthmose and Ramses II

Ramses the Great•He lived in the years of the late 1300s and early 1200s BC•As a pharaoh, Ramses lived in a city he built on the Nile Delta. The city’s name, Pi-Ramses, means the “house of Ramses.”•Ramses was trained as a ruler and a fighter. •He had created an army captain at age 10• Ramses began military campaigns even before he became a pharaoh.

Queen Hatshepsut•Ruled 1503-1482 BC•Married to the pharaoh Thutmose 2nd, her half brother.•Many people did not think women should rule, so she would dress up as a man and called herself king.•After she died, her stepson took over and vandalized all the monuments she had built.•She was born in the 18th dynasty•This was started by Tuthmose II and later finished by Queen Hatshepsut.
