    E DITORIAL " Seerah

By: Maulana Ilyas Patel Sahib To know Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi

Wasallam) is more important than even knowing ourselves. Allah Ta'ala declares:

"The Nabi is closer to the Believers than their souls..." (Surah Ahzaab Verse 6).

The very foundation of our Imaan lies upon knowing Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). It is impossible to fulfill the commands of Allah Ta'ala without the knowledge of the Seerah of Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). From our acts of worship to the mundane daily activities, the method and pattern of the Beloved of Allah Ta'ala will have to be followed. This is the one and only road to gain the love of Allah Ta'ala as explained in the words of the Qur'an:

"Say (O Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam)) If you love Allah Ta'ala follow me, Allah will love you and forgive your sins." (S.3 V.31)

Therefore a Believer should be well aware of the details of the life of Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). Hereunder, glimpses from the Seerah of Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) are discussed. This is merely to create the thirst within us to undertake a detail study of the Seerah of Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). PHYSICAL EXCELLENCE

The height of perfection was granted to Hazrat

  • January 2015 Rabiul Awwal 1436 [ 4

Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) even in his physical self. Many narrations contain the description of the physical excellence of Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). In one narration it is mentioned that the noble face of Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) would shine like the full moon.

Hazrat Jaabir (Raziyallahu Anhu) says: "I once saw Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) on a moonlit night. At times I looked at the full moon and at times I looked at Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). Indeed I concluded that Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) was more handsome than the moon". (Shamaa'il Tirmizi pg. 16) Regarding the palm of the beloved Nabi of Allah

Ta'ala (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), Hazrat Anas (Raziyallahu Anhu) says:

"I have never touched any fine silk which was softer than the palm of Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) nor did I smell any fragrance better than the (natural) fragrance (of the body of) Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam)."

Hazrat Ayesha (Raziyallahu Anha) reports that if the women who cut their hands when they saw Hazrat Yusuf (Alaihis Salaam) had to see Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), they would have cut out their hearts.

These are just some of the many narrations that explain the physical beauty and excellence of Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). A couplet of Hazrat

  • January 2015 Rabiul Awwal 1436 [ 5

Hassan bin Thabith (Raziyallahu Anhu) sums it all up. He says :

    More handsome than you my eye has not seen; More beautiful than you no woman has given birth to;

You have been created free from every blemish; As if you were created just as you had wished.

CHARACTER A concise description of the character of Hazrat

Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) is found in the words of Hazrat Ayesha (Raziyallahu Anha) who said:

"His character was the Qur'an." The incidents pertaining to his noble character

are numerous. Hazrat Anas (Raziyallahu Anhu) says: "I remained in the service of Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) for ten years. He never once told me 'oof.' When I did something, he never asked me: 'Why did you do so? If I did not do a certain task, he never asked me as to why I had not done so?" (Shamaa'il Tirmizi pg.362)

In another narration Hazrat Ayesha (Raziyallahu Anha) says:

"It was not the nature of Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) to talk indecently, nor did he engage himself in the use of obscene language. He would not shout and talk in the bazaars (which is against dignity). He did not avenge a bad deed with a bad one, but forgave it. Thereafter he would not even mention it." (Shamaa'il pg.364) Hazrat Jaabir (Raziyallahu Anhu) reports that

Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) never said 'no' to the request of a person.

HUMBLENESS Thousands of examples of the humbleness of

Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) are to be found in the books of Ahadith. Hazrat Anas (Raziyallahu Anhu) reports:

"Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) attended invitations where bread made of barley and stale fat a few days old was served (i.e. without any hesitation he accepted these invitations.)" (Shamaa'il pg.344) It is reported in some narrations that Hazrat

Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) would also do the modest tasks at home such as mending his shoes, milking the goat, mending his clothing as well as other household chores. (Shamaa'il pg.352)

What more can be said about the simplicity and humbleness of the Leader of all mankind, the Mercy unto the worlds and the most beloved of Allah Ta'ala? DA'WAH

The greatest amount of hardship was undertaken by Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) in the path of calling the people towards Allah Ta'ala. At Ta'if he was stoned to the extent that his shoes became filled with his mubarak blood. One Sahaabi (Raziyallahu Anhu) narrates:

"I saw Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) in the times of Jahiliyah (referring here to the early days of Islam). He was inviting the people and saying: "O people say and you will be successful." There were those who then spat in his

  • January 2015 Rabiul Awwal 1436 [ 7

face, there were those who threw sand upon him and others swore at him. This continued until midday." (Hayyatus Sahaaba V.1 pg 266) Despite all the difficulties and hardships that he

had to bear, Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) continued to invite towards the One Allah Ta'ala. His worry and concern for the Ummah would not let him rest. IBAADAH (WORSHIP)

The sinless Messenger of Allah Ta'ala exerted himself in the worship of his Creator to an extremely great extent. It is reported that Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) would perform such lengthy nafl Salaah that his mubaarak feet would become swollen. When asked as to why he exerted himself to this extent whereas Allah Ta'ala had forgiven his past and future sins, Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) replied: "Should I not be a grateful servant?" Numerous other incidents of this nature are to be found regarding the Ibaadah of Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). NATURAL TENDENCY

Though the few incidents above are only tiny droplets from the oceans of the excellent qualities of Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), they convey to us clearly the message that Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) was a perfect person in all respects. Hence it is only natural that one should be totally attracted to Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). This is a natural tendency observed in people that they are attracted by beauty and perfection. Hazrat

  • January 2015 Rabiul Awwal 1436 [ 8

Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) was the pinnacle of all beauty. EMULATION

When one is attracted and drawn towards some person, this attraction kindles love for that person. If this love is genuine, it automatically propels one towards emulating that person. This is witnessed daily in people who are attracted by film stars (falling stars). They begin emulating and following these people to the last detail, including the ridiculous hairstyles and outrageous clothing. When we have been drawn towards Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and have truly loved him, this must propel us to follow him in every aspect of his perfect life. His Ibaadah, da'wah, generosity, tolerance and humbleness has to be followed. Likewise a true lover will emulate him in the manner of eating and drinking, in the manner of sleeping, in attire and appearance and every other aspect. This is the dictates of true love for Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). Yet when these latter aspects are discussed, one hears voices in the wilderness blabbering: "The sum total of the Deen of these people is the length of the beard and the length of the pants." Most definitely these two aspects are not the entire Deen. However they are part of the entire Deen. They are aspects that Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) showed concern for. It does not behove of a true lover to show indifference towards what his beloved was concerned about.

May Allah Ta'ala grant us the true love for Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and enable us to emulate him in every aspect. Aameen.

    TAFSEER

    ( C o m m e n t a r y o f t h e H o l y Q u r a n ) By: Hazrat Maulana Mufti Muhammad Shafi Sahib (Rahmatullahi Alaihi)

SURAH AL-BAQARAH Note: This part of Tafseer is the remaining portion of Surah Al-Baqarah Tafseer and hence connected with the previous chapter of Surah Al-Baqarah Tafseer.

The Torah had in several places foretold the coming of the Holy Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam. In fact, the Jews themselves used to tell the Arabs that a new Prophet and a new Divine Book was soon to come. But when the Holy Quran came down from Allah Taala, and even when they had recognized its authenticity, the Jews denied it out of sheer spite. The verse says that the Holy Quran confirms the Torah it means that the Holy Quran is a concrete evidence of the truth of the prophecies made in the Torah with regard to the coming of the Holy prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam and of the Holy Quran. One who believes in the Torah cannot justifiably deny the Holy Quran and the Holy Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, for such a denial would involve a denial of the Torah itself.

Knowledge is not enough for Eiman One may want to know why the Holy Quran calls

  • January 2015 Rabiul Awwal 1436 [ 10

the Jews Kaafireen (infidels), when they did recognize the truth, which should qualify them to be called believers. Let us explain that Eiman (faith) does not merely mean knowing the truth, but really signifies accepting the truth and affirming it deed-wise. Otherwise, Satan too will have to be called a believer, for he knows fully well what the truth is. In fact, this knowledge of the truth on the part of Satan intensifies the gravity of his kufr (infidelity) all the more. However, the next verse attributes the infidelity of the Jews to their malice.

    Verse 90

    e^]j]e?]]m$]e]]#en^]m%$]#Fm fegoFg t oFm$f^

o ]h%n Vile is that for which they have sold out their slaves: that they should deny what Allah has revealed, grudging that Allah should send down some of His bounty to whomsoever He wills from among His servants. So, they came out with wrath upon wrath. And for unbelievers there is humiliating punishment. (Verse 90)

Prophethood cannot be earned through ones own efforts or ones own merit; it is a special grace which Allah Taala bestows on whomsoever He likes. But the Jews were so envious and malicious that they denied the Holy Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam and the Holy Quran out of sheer spite. In doing so, they were questioning the will of Allah Taala Himself. Thus, they earned divine wrath in

  • January 2015 Rabiul Awwal 1436 [ 11

two ways firstly, for denying a true Prophet; and secondly, for their envy and malice. The Holy Quran says that the Jews will have to undergo a punishment which would involve not only pain, but also disgrace and abasement. The latter condition has been added to suggest that this kind of punishment is peculiar to the infidels, and is not meant for a true Muslim at all, for a Muslim, no matter how great his sins are, will be punished for the purpose of being purified, not for being disgraced. The next verse reports that the Jews used to say with regards to the Holy Quran, which clearly shows their envy and malice as well as their infidelity (Kufr).

    Verse 91

    ]]n!]e]]#^]+e]n^m]# ij]fn e^]v%^^

o f]j%+n And when it is said to them, Believe in what Allah as revealed, they say, We believe in what has been revealed to us and they deny what is beyond, whereas that is the truth, confirming what is with them. Say, Why then have you been slaying the prophets of Allah earlier, if you were believers? (Verse 91)

The Jews flatly refused to believe in any Book of Allah Taala like the Evangel or the Holy Quran except in the Torah. This denial is a clear evidence of their infidelity (kufr). Moreover, they also used to add that

  • January 2015 Rabiul Awwal 1436 [ 12

they believe in the Torah, for it had been sent down to them this comes to mean that they denied the other Books just because they had not been sent down to them. Such an argument betrays their envy and malice. The Holy Quran refutes their argument in three ways: 1. When the truth and authenticity of the other Books has been established on the basis of irrefutable arguments, what does, then, this denial mean? If they had any doubts as to the arguments on the basis of which authenticity was being claimed for these Books, they could very well have voiced this doubt, and satisfied themselves on this point. But why this flat refusal to believe? 2. The other Books, like the Holy Quran, confirm the Torah. If one denied them, one at the same time denies the Torah itself. 3. To slay a prophet is tantamount to infidelity (Kufr), according to all the Divine Books. Moreover, the prophets whom the Jews had killed were themselves Israelites, and their teachings, were based on the injunctions of the Torah. But the Jews not only killed these prophets, but also accepted the killers as their chiefs. This is a direct denial of the Torah, and falsifies their claim that they believe in the Torah. In short, nothing that the Jews say or do is acceptable and valid from any possible point of view. The next verses proceed to refute the Jews on several other counts. (To be continued, Insha Allah)

    Seerat-e-Paak Nabi ~V s Love for Children

By: Hazrat Maulana Abu Talhah Muhammad Izharul Hasan Mahmood Sahib Translated By: Hazrat Mufti Afzal Husain Elias Sahib

LOVE SH O W N TO W ARDS CHILDREN IN GENERAL

Thousands accept Islam on the steadfastness of the Imaan of one young child

He now called the boy and told him that he still had a chance to denounce his belief and believe in the king as his Rabb. The boy was firm and steadfast and refused to accept the proposal of the king. The king then called a few soldiers and ordered them to take the boy to the top of a mountain and once again tell him to forsake his religion. Should he still refuse, they should throw him of the mountain. So they took him up the mountain and decided to throw him off. He supplicated to Allah Taala thus, O Allah you suffice for me however you so wish. No sooner did he make the dua, than the mountain began to tremble and the soldiers all plunged to their death, and the boy was saved.

The boy returned to the court of the kind. The king asked, Where have the soldiers gone? they boy told him that his Allah had saved him from them and

  • January 2015 Rabiul Awwal 1436 [ 14

destroyed them. The king called some other soldiers and ordered them to take him on a ship into the middle of the ocean and throw him into the sea! When these soldiers took him to the middle of the ocean and intended throwing him in, he supplicated to Allah Taala in the like manner saying, O Allah you suffice for me however you so wish. Immediately on his dua a wave rose and drowned all the soldiers sparing the boy. He once again returned to the court of the king and told him that his Allah Taala had saved him yet again from the soldiers. He also told the king that he may adopt any means to try and kill him, but he will fail. Yes, if he wanted to kill him there was one way by means of which he would definitely kill him, and that is he should gather all the people in one massive open field. Here he should build a gallows from date trees and then take him (the boy) to the gallows. Thereafter he should take an arrow from the youths quiver, place it on a bow and say, In the name of the Rabb of this boy then shoot the arrow. If Allah Taala wills then this method will kill him.

So the king did as he was told. The arrow struck the youth on his temple, he lifted his hand and placed it on is temple and became a martyr! His martyrdom made the people who had gathered there realize that his religion was indeed the true religion and this made them bring conviction in Allah Taala. From all four sides the cry of We believe in the Rabb of this youth, we believe in the Rabb of his youth could now be heard. The people now no longer believed in the king

  • January 2015 Rabiul Awwal 1436 [ 15

as their Rabb. Witnessing this, the king and his courtiers now became very worried. They began to say that they had actually not understood the plan of the youth. Now that has happened which they had all along feared. All these people have come onto the youths Deen whereas the youth was put to the gallows for the very reason that it would put a stop to his Deen! Now what should they do? The king ordered that trenches be dug all over, sticks should be thrown into these trenches and ignited so that no person can escape those who believe in the Rabb of the youth should be thrown into these trenches.

The people preferred being thrown into the burning trenches, but were in no way prepared to forsake their true belief. Amongst them was a woman who had a suckling baby and due to her love for this baby was hesitant to jump into the trench. (Allah Taala gave this suckling baby the ability to talk and say), O my mother, be patient and jump into the fire! (Muslim Shareef) The people of Imaan were all killed in this way and the youth was alsow buried with them in the trench.

An amazing fact is mentioned after this Hadith in Thirmizi Shareef and that is as fallows. During the Khilafat of Umar (Raziyallahu anhu) that particular spot was dug up and the corpse of the youth was found intact with his hand still on his temple as it was at the time of his martyrdom! (Thirmizi under the commentary of Surah Burooj) (To be continued, Insha Allah)

    ADVICES

THE DEOBAND ULAMA AND THEIR LOVE FOR

    HAZRAT RASULULLAH "#

From the teachings and advices of Faqeehul-Ummat, Hazrat Mufti Mahmood Hasan Sahib Gangohi (Rahmatullahi-Alaihi)

Compiled by: Hazrat Maulana Muhammad Rahmatullah Sahib Kashmiri (Daamat- Barakatuhum)

(Continued from the previous issue of AN-NOOR)

The sign of extreme love What is the sign of true love? Every person can

claim to have great love but ishq is such that the more one has ishq for Hazrat Nabi-e-Kareem (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam), the more he will follow the Sunnah of Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam). He will mould his life according to the Sunnah of Hazrat Nabi-e-Kareem (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam). This is the sign of true ishq.

]jivf]#^ifo "Say, if you love Allah Ta'ala, then follow me."

Following the Sunnah has been declared the condition for attaining the love of Allah Ta'ala. Hadith:

m]uujom]if^^qke None of you can be a true believer until his desires become subservient to the way (Shariat) that I have

brought. Hazrat Maulana Gangohi (Rahmatullahi Alaihi) used to

  • January 2015 Rabiul Awwal 1436 [ 17

say, "The mentioning of Ma-aarif, (the disclosing of hidden conditions of another realm and explaining intricate points regarding the unseen) cannot be compared with an ordinary action which is done according to the Sunnah. For example, cleansing oneself in accordance to the Sunnah after answering the call of nature is more virtuous than explaining deep points of Ma'rifat (recognition of Allah Ta'ala).

These personalities were the true lovers of Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) and the indication of this love is that every facet of their lives is illuminated with the adherence to the Sunnah. Every action is done, bearing in mind that it is not contrary to the Sunnah. Love is related to the heart. Anyone can claim and make a hue and cry that he is a lover of Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam), but the sign of that love is to follow the Sunnah.

Hazrat Shaikhul Hind (Rahmatullahi Alaihi) and his adherence to the Sunnah

Shaikhul Hind, Hazrat Maulana Mahmoodul Hasan Sahib (Rahmatullahi Alaihi) is a khalifa of Maulana Rashid Ahmad Gangohi (Rahmatullahi Alaihi). He was the head ustaad of Darul Uloom Deoband and spent his entire life teaching Hadith Shareef. He also made a concerted effort in the political arena to liberate India from the British. He was apprehended and imprisoned in Malta for many years. He was harshly treated and tortured

  • January 2015 Rabiul Awwal 1436 [ 18

but remained firm and steadfast. The torture left scars on his chest and sides. When he returned from Malta, the news spread about his time spent in jail. When he would get up for Tahajjud in the very cold conditions, he would make wudhu with water from a lota (jug) which Maulana Husain Ahmad Madani (Rahmatullahi Alaihi) had kept against his stomach (for hours) so that the coldness of the freezing water could be reduced. (Maulana Husain Ahmad Sahib (Rahmatullahi Alaihi) was also imprisoned in Malta at that time.)

The British sentries would pierce Hazrat Sheikul Hind (Rahmatullahi Alaihi) with a special stick, the edge of which was as sharp as a knife, on his chest and sides whilst he read Tahajjud Salah. The officer in charge was also an Englishman. He once said, "What in the heavens are you people doing? This man is such that if you have to kill and burn him, then from his blood and ashes the words, Haq! Haq! would be emitted."

On Jumuah, Hazrat would wash his clothes, make ghusal and prepare for Jumuah Salah. He would then go to the gates of the prison only to find it locked. He would shed a few tears and return to his place to perform the Zuhr Salah. He would do what was within his capacity to prepare for Jumu'ah (and would say, I did whatever was in my capacity).

In Deoband, he would tend to his Qurbaani animal (goat) for the entire year. He would personally wash and feed the animal. The animal in turn, would become very

  • January 2015 Rabiul Awwal 1436 [ 19

attached to Hazrat. When he would leave home to teach in Darul Uloom, it would follow him up to the madrasah gate where it would sit down. When Hazrat would return at noon after lessons, it would follow him back home. When the days of Qurbaani drew near, Hazrat would lessen its normal feed, which was grass and substitute it with bucketfuls of milk and jalebi (sweetmeat). He would also apply mehndi (henna) to it, place flowers on its back and beautify it, because Allah Ta'ala commands that one's wealth should be spent in the path of Allah Ta'ala. Thus, he would begin to love the animal very deeply. After the Eidul Adha Salah, he would then sacrifice it and cry a little as well. Then he would immediately purchase another animal for the following Eid.

Throughout Ramazaan, Hazrat would not sleep at night. He was not a Haafiz so he would make arrangements with various Huffaaz to recite the Quraan Shareef for him whilst he listened. Each Haafiz would recite one juz in nafl Salah (with Hazrat following). When one hafiz would finish, another would come and recite his juz. This would carry on until the entire night would be spent in nafl Salah.

Once, he was busy with his nafl Salah and his feet became swollen. He was overjoyed at this situation, because it is reported in a Hadith that Hazrat Nabi-e-Kareem's (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) blessed feet had become swollen when he performed Salah.

    (To be concluded, Insha-Allah)

    MALFOOZAAT

Statements and Anecdotes of Faqeehul-Ummat, Hazrat Maulana Mufti Mahmood Hasan Gangohi Sahib u]n ..

    Matters pertaining to Hadith

The preference of Hazrat Abu Talha (Raziyallahu-Anhu) Once a visitor had come to Hazrat Nabi-e-Akram

(Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) and he sent someone to enquire from the ummahaat-ul-mumineed if they had any food. Each ones provisions were depleted and all of them replied that they have nothing besides water.

Hazrat Nabi-e-Akram (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) then addressed the Sahabah and said, Who will accept this outsider as their guest? May Allah Taala have mercy on him. An Ansari sahaabi, Hazrat Abu Talah (Raziyallahu-Anhu) stood up and said, I will host him, Subsequently, he took the guest home and asked his wife, Do you have any food? I have brought a guest of Hazrat Nabi-e-Akram (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam). (Until then the laws of Hijaab were not revealed.) She replied, We have food that will suffice our children, although they have already eaten, but one seeing the guest partaking of it, they will ask for food.

  • January 2015 Rabiul Awwal 1436 [ 21

Abu Talha (Raziyallahu-Anhu) said, Put them off to sleep and we will remain hungry tonight. We will place the meal in front of the guest and pretend as if we are eating i.e. we will move our mouths and hands. Once the guest starts eating, then on the pretext of putting the lamp in order, extinguish it so that he may eat till he is satisfied.

They had done as was planned. The guest then slept whilst both husband and wife remained hungry the entire night.

The next morning when the guest went to Hazrat Nabi-e-Akram (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam), he said, Allah Taala is extremely pleased with the Abu Talhah (Raziyallahu-Anhu) and his wife because of last nights incident. The following verse was revealed in connection to them:

m+$5o]^e^ (And they gave them (the emigrants) preference over themselves even though they are in need.) [59:9] (Mishkaat, Vol 2,, Pg 580 & Mirqaat, Vol 1, Pg 445/446)

Giving preference to others A goat head had been given to a needy household. Thinking the next household to be more in need, they sent the goat heard over to them. The second family thinking the next household to be in a

greater need than them sent the goat head over to that house. They in turn thought in the like manner and sent the goat head to t he fourth family. In this way, the goat head rotated amongst seven families until it finally returned to the family to whom it was initially given. (Translation of Hayaat-us-Sahaabah with reference to Kanz-ul-Ummaal Vol 2, Pg 182)

Categories of ahadeeth Q: Some people say that Hazrat Ibnu Ziyaad (Raziyallahu-Anhu) is to be held responsible for the murder of Hazrat Hussain (Raziyallahu-Anhu) and not Yazeed. What is the ruling regarding this?

A: There are many categories of Ahadeeth:

Some are used as proof for the elementary articles of faith. These ahadeeth need to be extremely authentic.

Some ahadeeth are used for the tafseer of the Quran. This category of ahadeeth is of a lower rank than the first type.

Those ahadeeth that explain manaaqib (the virtues of personalities). Those ahadeeth that are related to history. This is the lowest category.

The mateer of Yazeed is connected to this type of ahadeeth. (To be continued, Insha-Allah)

BAYAN-UD-DUA By: Moulana Mohammad Aaqil SahibB

The Virtues, Blessings and benefits of ISTIGFAAR

The Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam has informed us that whosoever makes istigfaar incumbent upon himself i.e. always makes istigfaar in every condition, Allah Taala will make a way out for him from every difficulty and problem and from every worry will give him ease and will grant him sustenance from such a place where he did not imagine. (Abu Dawuud) It is mentioned in a Hadeeth when this verse of the Quran was revealed:

^^]#ne]kn^^]#emj! Allah Taala shall not punish them whilst you are amongst them and Allah Taala will not punish them in the state that they are doing istigfaar.

The Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said Allah Taala has revealed me two solutions to be saved from punishment, firstly my presence and secondly making istigfaar. I am leaving behind istigfaar for my Ummah till the Day of Judgment. (Trimizi) In another Hadeeth the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said I make istigfaar 100 times a day (Muslim

  • January 2015 Rabiul Awwal 1436 [ 24

and Abu Dawuud). In another narration I make tawbah and istigfaar more than 70 times. (Bukhari) It should be noted that the ability to do istigfaar and tawbah is a sign of great fortune, only the righteous are given ability to do more istigfaar. It has been mentioned in the Quran regarding these people:

e^v^mj! In the morning they do istigfaar.

From this we also know that the first part of the day i.e. morning is most appropriate time for istigfaar. We also have started the duas with istigfaar. It is mentioned in a Hadeth:

%_$^.n]_$^n]j$$]e! All of you are sinners and the best sinners are those who repent excessively. Hazrat Abu Hurairah Raziyallahu Anhu reports that I never saw anyone doing more istigfaar than the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam. Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddiq Raziyallahu Anhu narrates that I requested the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam to teach me a dua which I can recite in my Namaaz, the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam taught him the dua which is recited at the end of Namaaz:

    ]#$]oko^%n]$m]%h]$]k^o]uo]$]k]]$un!

This dua is very significant istigfaar, it comprises

  • January 2015 Rabiul Awwal 1436 [ 25

words of confession of ones shortcomings rather of ones oppression along with asking Allah Taala for repentance and forgiveness and this supplication is made with great humility and humbleness.

    Forgiveness only from yourself.

Even though Hazrat Abu Bakr Raziyallahu Anhu is being the best person amongst mankind after all the Prophets Alaihimus Salaam. Despite this, the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam taught him this dua, the significance and necessity of making istigfaar is apparent from this. (Allah alone is the one who gives ability)

The meaning of Istigfaar and its reality

The meaning of Istigfaar is that one seeks forgiveness considering himself blameworthy and guilty. The main factor in making istigfaar is the confession and realization of ones shortcomings, without this realization merely saying astgfirullah with the tongue is not true istigfaar. The Sufis say that such istigfaar in itself is in need of another istigfaar. Yes it could be said that it is possible that Allah Taala after this istigfaar of the tongue gives us tawfeeq (ability) of the true istigfaar which is not far from his grace.

THINGS THAT ONE CAN NEVER TIRE OF

The Ulma have started that there are a few things of which one can never tire. One of these is the sky. If one looks at the shining stars every night, he will experience a different pleasure each time; he can never says, I am tired of looking at the sky. Another example is drinking water. No matter how much water one drinks during his life, even if he reaches the edge of one hundred, he will never say, I am tired of drinking water. One can fed up with certain kind of food and juices, but never with water; its a great Mercy of Allah Taala! A third example is the Kabah or Baitullah. Only those who have had the good fortune to visit it can understand the fact that one cannot get tired of looking at it. Every glance gives one a new aspect of its beauty. After all, it is the House of Allah Taala! In the same way, the more one recites the Quran, the more one will

  • January 2015 Rabiul Awwal 1436 [ 27

develop an interest in recitation. The frequent recitation of some of our predecessors in truly amazing.

Therefore, this Book was sent down to us so that we can recite it and act upon it, to live a successful life in this world. This is why the Sahabah (Raziyallahu-Anhu) said:

]$]#meF]]j^h]]^ Allah Taala elevates whole communities with this Book.

It has come to raise us up in this world, to awaken us and grant us honour.

FROM CAMEL HERDER TO THE AMEERUL MUMINEEN

Once, during his Khilaafat, Umar Ibn Al Khattab (Raziyallahu-Anhu) accompanied by an army, was ascending the hills of Makkah. It was midday, and the sun was at its hottest. He stopped at one place and observed the valley below. The whole army stood by, drenched in sweet; there was no shade in sight. Someone asked, O Ameerul Mumineen! Is everything all right? Why have you stopped here? he replied, I am looking down into the valley where, before accepting Islam, I used to graze me camel. As a boy, I did not know how to graze camels, and they would return home with their stomach empty. My father Khattab would scold me and ask how

  • January 2015 Rabiul Awwal 1436 [ 28

would I able to lead a successful life when I did not even know how to graze camels! I am remembering that time when I was unable to gaze camels, and am now seeing how Allah Taala has made Umar the Ameerul Mumineen through the blessings of Islam and the Quran!

Therefore, this Book raises ones status. If we recite and act upon it, Allah Taala will bless us, too, with honour. This is why Allah Taala has said:

O ]]e%] Read, and your Lord is the most gracious. [Al-Alaq 96:03]

Read the Quran, and your Lord will honour you, elevate you and beautify your inner and outer self.

This is the Quran of Allah Taala. My Shaikh Hazrat Maulana Ghulam Habib Naqshabandi used to say:

The Quram is in your hands, and you remain distressed? The Quran is in your hands, and you have no worldly success? The Quran is in your hands, and you are a slave in this world?1 No, it can never be, say that Quran! Come, my believing Muslims. (To be Continued, Insha-Allah)

    BRINGING UP CHILDREN IN ISLAM

By: Hazrat Maulana Dr. Muhammad Habibullaah Mukhtaar Sahib

Translated by: Jenab Rafiq Abdurrahmaan Sahib

(Continued from the previous issue of AN-NOOR)

    Rights of Asaa-ti-dhah (Teacher)

Therefore, impress upon children to be humble to their asaa-ti-dhah. They must act on their advice, and kept them happy. Their conduct with an ustaadh (teacher) must be like that of a patient and a doctor. Hazrat Imaam Shafiee (Rahamatullahi alaihi) may Allah Taala have mercy on him, showed extreme humility to his asaa-ti-dhah (teacher). Hazrat Sayyidina Ibn Abbaad (Raziyallahu-Anhu) would hold the packsaddle of the beast of Hazrat Sayidina Zayd Bin Thaabit, (Raziyallahu-Anhu). He would say that we are commanded to deal with our ulamaa in this manner. Knowledge can only be acquired if humility and submission are found in the student. An ustaadh (teacher) must be held in honour and respect. Let one regard ones ustaadh as a perfect person. In earlier times, students were careful to turn the pages of their books so quietly that their ustaadh might not hear the movement of the leaves. One must talk to an ustaadh politely and with respect and be aware of their rights. One must uphold the status in all sincerity, make dua and respect their

children, relatives and friends. After the ustaadh passes away the student must offer sadaqah (charity) on their behalf. A student must tolerate a strict ustaadh (teacher). Always consider yourself to be deficient, and seek forgiveness for short coming. Patience and endurance is the only way to attain knowledge. Sit before the ustaadh wit humility and reverence and always be attentive. Do not look around. Refrain from all movement that is against etiquette. Do not fidget with any part of the body while the class is in progress. It is misconduct to clean your nostrils or yawn. Do not snap your fingers. Do not speak to your ustaadh (teacher) unnecessarily. Do not laugh loudly. When sneezing, keep the sound low and cover your face with your hands or a handkerchief. Be ever ready to serve your ustaadh (teacher). Do not enter the house of your ustaadh or study room, without permission, whether the ustaadh is alone or in company. Knock at the door politely. Go well dressed and with a good countenance, and free the mind of all thoughts. If the ustaadh is not present, wait. If resting, do not disturb him but wait till the ustaad rises. Even when one already knows what the ustaadh says, do not interrupt, but listen carefully so that it is not felt that one is not fully attentive. Do not ask again what has been understood already. Parents must urge their children to seek the company of ulamaa and fuqaha (jurist). However, if a

  • January 2015 Rabiul Awwal 1436 [ 31

teacher is an atheists or a materialist, keep away. Do not get ensnared in an evil teachers snare. Rather, save others too from atheistic and blasphemous beliefs and ideas. Keep away, and do not fall under such a teachers sway. Train children to speak the truth before their asaa-ti-dhah.

Rights of companions It is imperative that good, believing companions be selected for the child. A companion has great influence on the character and habits of the child. Companions captivate and influence one another. One is known by the friends one keeps. Hazrat Nabi-e-Akram (Sallallahu-alaihi-wasallam) cited the example of a good companion as the one with mushk (musk) and of a bad companion as the owner of a kiln. The first will give you some mushk as a gift; or one will enjoy its fragrant smell. The owner of the kiln, on the other hand, may cause your clothes to burn, or you might get engulfed in smoke.1 One has been commanded to keep the company of good ones,2 and shun the company of evil persons.3 Before building friendship, observe well who it is with whom friendship is made because one is identified by ones friends.4

Hazrat Abu Muhammad Harithi (Rahmatullahi-Alaihi) narrates that Darir said: Hazrat Abu Hanifah always applauded justice and he always spoke of justice and the truth. narrates That Hazrat Abu Sulayman Jawzjani (Rahmatullahi-Alaihi) said: Allah Taala had rendered Fiqh very clear and manifest for Hazrat Abu Hanifah (Rahmatullahi-Alaihi). Thereafter, when he would start with his opinion, all the students would remain so silent as though there is not a soul in the entire gathering whereas there were mountains of Ilm and Fiqh present before him. Only he used to speak and only upon termination of his speech, his students used to comment. Glory be to the being Who silenced us all in favour of him.

    Essay

AWAKE O MUSLIMS!!! By: Maulana Dawood Vawda Sahib

All praises to Allah Taala and choicest blessing upon our beloved Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu-Alaihi-Wasallam). Aameen

Muslims are in the darkness of ignorance, superstition, evil and sins. We have fallen from the high pedestal of glory and respect due to our apathy towards the teachings of Islam. Another cause for our degeneration can be attributed to the tendency of deviating from that pure lifestyle practiced and taught by our Beloved Hazrat Muhammad (Sallallahu-Alaihi-Wasallam).

If Muslims hold firm to two things they will not be misguided:

    1. The Noble Quran. 2. The Sunnah of Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu-

    Alaihi-Wasallam).

If we survey the historical development of Islam, then we will observe that numerous groups arose who interpreted the Glorious Quran and ahadeeth contrary to the true spirit of Islam. Many discard Sunnah practices and some introduce innovations.

Islam is perfect with no scope for additions and deletions. Hazrat Rasulullahs (Sallallahu-Alaihi-Wasallam) beautiful life pattern is sufficient guide for us. We are

  • January 2015 Rabiul Awwal 1436 [ 36

duty bound to obey all the laws and commands of Allah Taala as explained, interpreted and practiced by Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu-Alaihi-Wasallam).

The manner and method of worship taught by Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu-Alaihi-Wasallam) is perfect and any deviation is like finding flaws in the perfect system. Our salvation most certainly lies in following the blessed ways of Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu-Alaihi-Wasallam). Following the Sunnah of Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu-Alaihi-Wasallam) is such an important factor that the mere expression of our love for Allah Taala is not enough.

We have been warned that this Ummah (nation) will be split into seventy three (73) groups, all of whom will be in the fire except one. The group which adheres strictly to the Blessed Quran and Sunnah will be saved.

Sensitive and pious Muslims are generally anxious about the decline and fall of this nation. The cause and reason for our spiritual and moral diseases etc. are not defined and attended to, thereby creating a major catastrophe. We have become complacent and neglectful of our existence and purpose as Muslims in this world.

We need to take lessons from the previous nations. The decline of Banoo Israeel started when the pious witnessed sins committed by transgressors, they prevented them, but they did not repent and the pious continued their friendship with them, so Allah Taala united their hearts in the same category.

  • January 2015 Rabiul Awwal 1436 [ 37

Nowadays it is considered a merit and a requirement of etiquette to have Peace with all, and please everyone on every occasion. This is a wrong policy which promotes evil. When sins are committed openly, all are affected. If sins are taken lightly and not even considered as sins then generally one is not favoured with repentance and guidance.

Muslims need to reflect on their state and condition, inspect their priorities as Muslims and seek advice from pious learned scholars in all their matters. The anti-Muslim world desire that the Muslim public state aloof from their leaders and a huge gape be created to achieve their anti-Islam goals easily.

The evils of this world are many and the greatest is wealth. This is accompanied by suffering and misery. Wealth however, has its benefits which may lead to salvation. One has to be very vigilant so that one is not tempted and trapped with evil.

The magnitude of the waves of evil and corruption are on the increase. Many prophecies of Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu-Alaihi-Wasallam) have been unveiled like beads falling off a broken thread and still many to follow. Some prophecies mentioned are:

    1. Islam began alien and it will return as it began. 2. A believer in the morning will become a disbeliever in

the evening and a believer in the evening will become a disbeliever in the morning.

    3. The person who holds perseveringly onto Islam will

  • January 2015 Rabiul Awwal 1436 [ 38

be like on whom holds onto burning coal. 4. Islam will remain by name and the Glorious Quran

by script. 5. There will be no differentiation between Halal and

Haram. 6. Everyone will consume interest or be afflicted by its

smoke. 7. The murderer will not know why he has murdered,

nor will the murdered person know why he was slain. 8. Nations outwardly will be like brothers, but secretly

enemies. 9. Time will contract to such an extent that a year will be

like a month, month like a week, week like a day, day like an hour and an hour like the time to ignite a fire.

    10. The appearance of sudden death. 11. Competition in building huge and luxurious

Masajid. 12. Wine will be considered Halal as drinks, usury

as a transaction, bribery as a gift and Zakaat funds will be used for business.

    13. People will greet only those they know and business will spread to such an extent that a women will help her husband in his business.

    14. A person will go to distant corners of the earth for business and upon returning say, I made no profit.

    15. Women will be clothed yet naked. They will attract others and they themselves will get attracted.

Let us not despair, but hold fast onto the rope of Allah Taala and follow the lifestyle of Hazrat Rasulullah (Sallallahu-Alaihi-Wasallam). May Allah Taala guide and help us all. Aameen.

    CAMPUS ROUND-UP Fayyaz Ahmad Zaroo

Note: The following story is connected with the story titled: Floods, Trial or Punishment by the Esteemed Editor-in-chief of this journal, Hazrat Maulana Muhammad Rahmatullah Sahib Qasmi Daamat-Barakatuhum, that appeared in the joint issue of AN-NOOR (Oct, Nov & Dec-2014) at the editorial page. (Editor)

The great work of relief and rehabilitation undertaken by Jamiat-e-Ulama Relief Committee and other Muslim organizations thwarted non-Muslim missionaries to step forward and exploit the flood-hit victims of the Kashmir valley

The huge floods, came in September-2014, wreaked havoc and caused destruction at a large scale in the Kashmir valley. It turned a millionaire and a billionaire into Zakaat-deserving souls. A person living in luxurious house was constrained to flee his comfortable abode after the floodwaters started entering the ground floor of his house and hence rendered him so poor that he spent many days and nights at gritty land under the open sky. The floods turned out pompous men and women of their posh homes, hence walked miles to find shelter on the

open earth for the night. They were in need of cloth or at least some sheets of paper or plastic for taking cover. Nothing was available to them. Allah Almighty knows these Hikmats and Maslihats best.

The hard time in reality is a stern test for a true Muslim man and woman to see what kind of approach he or she adopts to the hour of difficulties. Will he or she wail or observe patience. And what kind of approach is taken by such a person who was protected against the floods to flood-affected victims, affectionate or ignoring. Paradoxically, the thinking of some crooked minded people about the humane treatment of disaster-hit victims is the same as non-believers have. Their negative thinking had been reflected in the Holy Quran as follows:

And when it is said to them, Spend (to the needy) from the provision Allah has given to you, the disbelievers say to the believers, Shall we feed those whom Allah could have fed, if Allah so willed? You are but in the open error. (Surah-Yaaseen verse No. 47)

What happened in Kashmir: Some flood-affected people, who were themselves in need, helped and supported other affected persons while some people tried to take the lead in serving flood-hit victims enthusiastically. Such people of rural areas and towns who were protected by Allah Almighty against floods gave full support in the form of relief and took care of the flood-hit victims as per their capacity. The Kashmiri Diaspora also took very good care of the flood-affected people of the Kashmir valley and offered their help and support wholeheartedly.

  • January 2015 Rabiul Awwal 1436 [ 41

Relief and rehabilitation organizations Jamiat-e-Ulama-e-Hind (JUH) is the leading

organization among such Muslim organizations and institutes that took part in providing relief and rehabilitation services to the flood-affected people of the Kashmir valley. With due care of Hazrat Maulana Qari Sayyid Muhammad Usmaan Sahib Daamat-Barakatuhum and Maulana Sayyid Mahmood Madani Sahib, the first phase of financial aid of rupees twenty five lakh (25, 0000) reached Srinagar by air through the delegations of JUH. At that time, only two Kms from the Srinagar airport were without floodwater, the remaining road ahead was submerged by floods. Therefore, the men of JUH set up their office in the vicinity of the airport and started operating the relief work from there. A committee namely Jamiat-e-Ulama Relief Committee was constituted. This author was designated as its patron in my absence. From that day to the present day, the relief and rehabilitation work is continuously being carried out with full zeal and enthusiasm. All Muslim brethren are supporting, donating and contributing wholeheartedly. And so far, the relief worth crores of rupees has been distributed among the flood-affected people, and the said relief material is in the form of food items, warm clothes, blankets, utensils, books, medicine, handsome huts made of tin-cum-timber and concrete houses. May Allah Taala bestow them the best reward in this world and in the Hereafter. This work of relief and rehabilitation is going on with unflagging enthusiasm, despite the fact that the Kashmir valley is

  • January 2015 Rabiul Awwal 1436 [ 42

reeling under severe and biting cold. It is pertinent to mention here that it was the same

organization, that is, Jamiat-e-Ulama-e-Hind (JUH) that undertook a big project of rehabilitation in October 2005 when an earthquake of high intensity struck the Kashmir valley. At that time, JUH built one hundred houses of tin and iron at Salaam-abaad Uri and then handed over the same houses to the genuine victims of the earthquake of 2005. Now this time, the same JUH has undertaken a major project of constructing houses for flood-hit victims of the Kashmir valley 2014. It has started constructing about five hundred (500) houses in which one hundred plus houses have been handed over to the flood-affected poor families after their completion. The remaining number of houses is under construction and some of them are near completion. Some of these houses are made of tin and timber and some are made of bricks and cement.

During the period of floods, so many parties came from Gujrat and Bombay to Kashmir with relief material for flood-hit victims and distributed the same in different areas at their own discretion and rendered services to the affected people. Anyway, whosoever from the Muslim community served the flood-affected Muslims of the Kashmir valley had benefitted the community in two ways: one is that the affected Kashmiri Muslims got relief and shelter easily and immediately, and second is the most important thing, that is, the faith: Eimaan of every flood-hit victim of Kashmiri Muslims remained safe and sound as the volunteers who reached out to the most vulnerable

  • January 2015 Rabiul Awwal 1436 [ 43

persons of the Muslim community of Kashmir with relief and other necessary items were themselves believers and Muslims. The great work of relief and rehabilitation undertaken by Jamiat-e-Ulama Relief Committee and other Muslim organizations during the Kashmir floods thwarted non-Muslim missionaries to step forward and exploit the flood-hit victims of the Kashmir valley. During the natural disasters happened in the past, we had experienced dirty tricks and frauds of some non-Muslim missionaries at first hand. At that time, we observed that theses non-Muslim organizations were enticing the quake-hit victims of the Muslim community with meagre relief to convert them to their false religion. Our supplication: Duaa is that may Allah Almighty approve the services of all Muslim men and women they rendered in the very difficult situation and make these efforts a source for protection of Deen.

Trial or Punishment The huge flood that came in Kashmir in 2014 was a

trial or torment. This is a question being asked regularly. People are answering this question in different ways. However, a believer: Momin, has to refer to the Islamic Shariah and its injunctions for seeking the correct answer to this question.

In this world, troubles visit to the people off and on and sometimes they face trials as well. The calamities that fall on the servants of Allah Taala are punishment for some of them while as the same calamities are blessings for His obedient servants, and hence for the sake of

upgrading the status of good people, tests and trials are conducted by putting them into trouble.

Hakeem-ul-Ummah, Hazrat Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanavi Sahib Rahmatullah-e-alaihi had said that if one becomes aware of his sins and faults and finds greater inclination toward seeking pardon from Allah Taala, then it (calamity) is a sign of His kindness and favour. But if one gets frustrated and indulges more in sins and evil, then it is a sign of Allahs wrath and torment.

Maulana Mufti Muhammad Farooq Sahib has quoted a Hadith-Shareef in a booklet namely Asbaab, Masaaib aur Unn Kaa Ilaaj. This book contains ethical notes of Hazrat Maulana Mufti Mahmood Hasan Gangohi Sahib Rahmatullahi alaihi. The Hadith-Shareef is as under:

Hazrat Nabi-e-Kareem Sallallahu-alaihi-wasallam said: When my Ummat begins to do these fifteen things, calamities will descend on them; When wealth of the Bytul-Maal shall be considered as

private personal property; When wealth entrusted to the care of a person

becomes booty; When Zakaat is being looked upon as a tax (given

very reluctantly); When wives are obeyed and mothers disobeyed; When friends and companions are treated amicably; When fathers are treated with scorn and harshness; When voices shall be raised in the Masaajid; When the evil-doer among a tribe shall hold

    responsible positions of power over them; When low villains shall be the leaders of men;

    When an unfit man shall be honoured for fear of the evil he may cause;

When wine is being drunk openly (and boldly); When silk is being worn by men; When it shall become a habit to acquire singing girls; When the use of musical instruments will be common

occurrence; When the latter of this Ummat shall curse and criticize

their predecessors (the Sahaabah, Taabeen and the righteous Aiemma-e-Mujtahideen), then await red dust storms, earthquakes, caving in of the earth, transfiguration and the raining of stones from the heavens.

    Hazrat Rasoolullah Sallallahu-alaihi-wasallam is

reported to have said, The people among whom the taking of interest and indulgence in adultery: Zina appears openly, have indeed invited Allahs wrath and anger upon themselves.

A perfect believer, in fact, a perfect human being is one who is able to perceive the hidden Power behind every change, revolution, sorrow and comfort, ignore their transitory phases and dismiss their material causes as the sole explanation. The mark of an intelligent person is that he looks at the originator or causer of causes more than he would look at causes, and it is with Him alone that he would relate to as firmly as possible.

Safety from the wrath of Allah Almighty In a Hadith, the Holy Prophet Sallallahu-alaihi-

wasallam has been reported to have said: One who repents from sin is loved by Allah and one who has

repented from sin is like one who had never committed a sin. (Ibn-e-Maajah)

However, what is necessary is that the repentance is genuine and is offered in sincerity. This repentance stands on three pillars. Firstly, one should regret over and feel ashamed about what he or she has done. According to Hadith, Taubah is (another name of) remorse. Secondly, one should immediately leave off the sin he has committed and he should, for the future too, firmly resolve to stay away from it. Thirdly, one should think of making amends for what has gone by, that is, he should try to take measures to rectify what has happened in sin to the best of his ability. For example, if he has missed a prayer or a fast, he should make up for it by doing what is known as Qaza (compensatory worship). If one does not remember the correct number of such missed prayers and fasts, he should think, calculate and come to an estimated number and then go on to offer Qaza for these in all seriousness. If one finds it impossible to do so all at one time, he could offer, with each Salah due at its time, one Qaza of each Salah he missed throughout his life, which is commonly known as Umri Qaza. In the same way, one should do his best to make up, as and when convenient, for obligatory fasts he missed by offering Qaza fasts. May be one has not paid the obligatory Zakaah due on him or her; he or she should then pay the Zakaah due on him or her for previous years as well, paying it all or paying it gradually. God forbid, if one has usurped someones right, he should return it back to him and if he has hurt someone, he should seek his forgiveness. But, should it be that one does not regret what he or she has done, or, despite being regretful, he or she does not leave off that sin for future, then, this repentance is no repentance even

though it may be said a thousand times. It is pertinent to mention here that the calamities

and sufferings, whatever may be their causes, are sent down by Allah Almighty. These calamities come about as a torment for some people and as a trial and test for some other people. And we have written in detail on this matter in the previous issue of AN-NOOR. However, to deride and jeer the afflicted Muslims is strictly prohibited. When any calamity strikes the people, then the persons, who were protected from the damage by the mercy of Allah Taala, should seek refuge with Allah Taala and praise Him for granting them protection as Allah Almighty forgives many sins of His servants by His complete mercy and grace.

If anyone breaches the Islamic ethics and indulges in deriding and jeering the afflicted Muslims instead of having mercy on them, then there is a strong warning that has been predicted in a Hadith Shareef: Do not make fun of your troubled Muslim, may be Allah Almighty have mercy on him or her and you will be put to the trouble. Therefore, it is the time to fear not to deride.

Seeing a person in trouble, one should feel a sense of responsibility towards this troubled one, and then start fulfilling them enthusiastically. One should not jeer and taunt such persons who are indulging in sins, but sinners should be advised gently. On taunting a sinner, a dreadful warning has been issued in a Hadith Shareef: One who embarrasses his brother or sister in Islam by recalling his or her committed sin, then the person who embarrassed him or her would be involved in the same sin before death. (Refuge with Allah)

In such cases hate the sin but not the sinner should be the norm. This kind of approach would benefit both: the

sinner and the adviser. The sinner will mend his or her ways and will become a true Muslim while as the person who gave the advice will get its reward of advising.

As for now falling down a calamity is concerned, every calamity which falls on a Muslim becomes a source of good things for him or her. And if afflicted Muslim does not complain his troubles before anyone while observing patience, then his sins will be forgiven. In a Hadith Shareef it has been said that a person who faces monetary loss or any tragedy, then he or she conceals it from the people and do not make any complaint about the sufferings before the people, Allah Taala would certainly forgive him or her. It has been also reported in a Hadith Shareef that the sins of such a believer: Momin, who was given trouble with a thorn or less than it, will be forgiven and his or her rank will be elevated.

The people who consider such Ahaadith above-mentioned do not worry. They turn towards Allah Taala in all conditions.

One should not ask trouble or afflictions from Allah Almighty. We have been taught a Duaa, prayer: Our Lord, do not place on us a burden such as You have placed on those before us. And our Lord, do not make us bear that for which we have no strength.

Therefore, one should seek protection against calamities, troubles and afflictions from Allah Almighty, and if any kind of trouble comes, then prayers should be made to Allah Taala while observing patience and steadfastness. There are so many prayers and supplications taught in Ahaadith in which protection against troubles and tragedies had been sought from Allah Taala. May Allah Taala protect us and the entire Muslim Ummah. Aameen yaa Rabbal-Aalameen.
