Johannes Foersom and Peter Hiort-Lorenzen are two of the most eminent Scandinavian designers of the last twenty years or so. Based in Copenhagen, Denmark. They formed their partnership in 1977 and continue to enjoy international recognition due to their extensive and enduring design and development skills. It is this affiliation in conjunction with an innovative and responsible focus that has seen the pair form long-term relationships with leading dynamic clients. Their success can also be measured by the numerous, prestigious awards, won both individually and as colleagues, for their inspiring designs and projects.

Features:

The complexity of the ‘Reholz’ or 3-Dimensional plywood, as it’s sometimes referred to, is more than evident in the strikingly elegant and curvaceous form of the Jo Jo stool seat, which is a common component across the three variants on offer. This almost ‘plastic’ characteristic was not possible in pressed plywood veneers until quite recently, and Peter and Johannes have utilised this innovative technology magnificently with JoJo.The resultant organic and ergonomically friendly form provides arguably one of the most comfortable stool seat shapes possible. The two four legged stools offer bar or table fixed height options while the centre pedestal model has 100mm of height adjustment and 360° free swivel features as standard. A simple and unobtrusive leaver located under the seat shell activates an internal gas stem in the stools column.

Other subtle features include the concave detail to the ends of the centre pedestal footrest; the complementary rounded edge to the pressed base plate cover cowl; the careful consideration of the complementary aesthetics of the structural plywood

‘biscuit’ that connects the slender seat shell to the stool framework in each case; and the clever integration of the circular foot ring onto the four legged high stool.

This attention to detail ensures that these stools exude the highest quality in aesthetics, finish and function. The almost ‘plastic’ characteristic was not possible in pressed plywood veneers until quite recently, and Peter and Johannes have utilised this innovative technology magnificently with JoJo. The resultant organic and ergonomically friendly form provides arguably one of the most comfrtable stool seat shapes possible.

The two four legged stools offer bar or table fixed height options while the centre pedestal model has 100mm of height adjustment and 360° free swivel features as standard. A simple and unobtrusive leaver located under the seat shell activates an internal gas stem in the stools column.

Consruction:

The four legged high and low stool frames are constructed from round tubular steel foot ring and legs, welded together with a substantial flat steel plate at the top, which is recessed into and screwed to the plywood ‘biscuit’, which in turn is securely bonded to the ply form seat shell.

The centre pedestal swivel stool has a telescopic tubular steel construction with the ‘T’ bar footrest welded to the upper column, allowing a 360° swivel. As previously mentioned the footrest has machined concave end details, and the components are mechanically fixed eliminating the need for welding, so creating a clean precise joint. The lower column is welded to the base plate and has a decorative pressed steel cover cowl. A height adjustable gas stem is located in the lower column, with the upper outer column assembled over the low section to complete the framework. A nylon bush within the assembly ensures a ‘free’ and smooth swivel action.

Finishes:

The 3D plywood veneer seat shell is available as standard in matt white tinted ‘Alpi’ Oak and matt clear finish ‘Alpi’ American Walnut. There are also options for the stools to be specified clear finish, colour washed or stained from the standard range of finishes, onto more neutral Beech shells. NB due to the complex nature of the 3D ply material, it is not advised to solid colour the seat.

Stool frames are available in either, bright polished Chrome, or EPPC paint from our range of metal finishes. It is advised to specify the high stools in bright or satin Chrome, as these finishes offer greater durability for the exposed footrest. Jojo is not suitable for outdoor use.

Marketplace:

JoJo’s elegance and comfort without the need for upholstery, which in turn makes cleaning and wiping down a simple task, means that it’s applications and suitability are many and varied. Corporate breakout areas, cool internet cafes and high street retail environments easily fall under it scope.

The stunning nature and quality appeal of JoJo make it suitable for the very best hotel bars, restaurants, clubs and coffee bars. JoJo’s elegance and comfort without the need for upholstery, which in turn makes cleaning and wiping down a simple task, means that it’s applications and suitability are many and varied. Corporate breakout areas, internet cafes and high street retail environments easily fall under it scope.

Specification Sheet October 2011

Simon Pengelly, who is one of the most talented designers working in the UK at present, graduated from Kingston Polytechnic in 1988 and worked in a leading UK design studio for several years before founding Pengelly Design in 1993. His studio has since worked with a wide range of international clients and achieved numerous awards and accolades for his work.

Features: Host is a small stand alone ‘individual’ table designed to accompany a wide range of soft seating, in particular the range of tub chairs, also designed by Simon Pengelly, for use as either primarily a laptop computer support work surface, or simply a drinks table and is proportioned accordingly with a weighted stable base, elegant slender tear drop sectioned offset column, and ‘soft touch’, lightly textured, moulded polyurethane

top, which provides just enough surface friction and an elegant ‘soft square’ shape. A convenient ‘hand grip’ to the underside of the chamfered edge profile facilitates pulling the table up close to the user in conjunction with easy slide glides under the base plate.

Finishes: The moulded PU top has a fine surface texture as standard and all parts are available in White as standard; the metal parts having been EPP coated and oven baked; the PU top being coloured as part of the moulding process.

Host, which is designed with durable and appropriate materials for longevity of use, can be easily dismantled with appropriate tools and is 100% recyclable at the end of its life.

Marketplace: Universal appeal across a wide range of casual soft seating applications including receptions, lounges, general soft meeting areas and breakout spaces and even airport VIP lounges.

Simon Pengelly who is one of the most talented designers working in the UK at present, graduated from Kingston Polytechnic in 1988 and worked in a leading design studio for several years before founding Pengelly Design in 1993.

Features: Bison is a highly stylish and contemporary tub chair designed with characterful broad shoulders and a compact foorprint. For a compact chair it provides a deceptively generous and comfortable sit due in part to the subtle flexing of the arms, backrest and sprung seat. The moulded foam seat and back form, both elegant and striking, enhanced by superb upholstery detailing.

Construction: Bison is made of two cold cure moulded foam parts; seat section and back/arm form, with integral Steel armatures and seat webbing. These are fully upholstered and bolted together from within the seat cavity before having a weighty Steel base plate screwed in place with profiled plastic glides attached to the underside of the base plate in turn providing excellent stability. The glides are available with a felt pad option for hard floor surfaces.

Finishes: Bison can be upholstered in a wide range of contract quality fabrics or leather.

Marketplace: Bison is a stunning design for informal meeting spaces and breakout areas as well as lounge areas, dining or coffee bar applications and hotel bedrooms amongst others.
