‘Vetter’s Letter The 2010 season is definitely over now (unless you are in one of the southern states). AACC did well in its last show of the season bringing home several trophies from Corvettes for Chip. Congratulations to our members who won trophies at the show. It has been a good year for AACC with two very successful shows and many trophies from local as well as outofstate shows. Thanks to all the members who volunteered this year and helped to make it so successful. We were able to increase the club contribution to the Christmas party and hopefully our charitable contributions as well. With the onset of new tax laws for nonprofit organizations, we will have to look at increasing (at least for this year) our charitable contributions. When you look at our club’s donations compared to other corvette clubs, we are behind the rest. We have one more meeting and also our Christmas party before 2010 comes to an end. I hope to see everyone at the next meeting and/or the Christmas party. There has also been some selling and buying of ‘Vettes at the end of this year, so next year looks promising. Welcome to all the new members who have joined recently and I wish everyone has a nice holiday season. Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year, so lets get ready for 12/11 and let's party!!! John Kostick Jr. From the val Office Allentown Area Corvette Club, Inc. ‘Vetter’s Letter

The 2010 season is definitely over now (unless you are in one of the southern states). AACC did well in its last show of the season bringing home several trophies from Corvettes for Chip. Congratulations to our members who won tro‐phies at the show.

It has been a good year for AACC with two very successful shows and many tro‐phies from local as well as out‐of‐state shows. Thanks to all the members who volunteered this year and helped to make it so successful. We were able to in‐crease the club contribution to the Christmas party and hopefully our charitable contributions as well. With the onset of new tax laws for non‐profit organizations, we will have to look at increasing (at least for this year) our charitable contribu‐tions.

GM to Drop Goodwrench Brand in the US

Allentown Area Corvette Club ‘Vetter’s Letter | Vol. 17, Iss. 12 | December 2010

By DAVID BARKHOLZ AND PHILIP NUSSEL, AUTOMOTIVE NEWS on 11/08/2010

General Motors Co. is dropping the GM Goodwrench car mechanic brand in the United States as the company moves to redirect

the marketing emphasis around its four core vehicle brands, the company announced.

The long‐standing Goodwrench brand‐‐used by GM dealers to promote vehicle repair and maintenance services‐‐will be replaced

by Chevrolet Certified Service, Cadillac Certified Service, Buick Certified Service and GMC Certified Service, GM said in a statement

released Monday evening.

GM marketing chief Joel Ewanick wants the vehicle brands, not corpo‐

rate, to be the stars of GM, and that includes service and repairs, said one

source familiar with the new campaign.

“This is another part of the effort to clear out brand clutter,” the source

said.

The phase‐out is effective Feb. 1 in the United States, the statement said.

The brand will remain in Canada where it still holds some cachet, the

source said.

“Certified Service supports GM's strategy to focus on the four brands‐‐Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac‐‐and is a natural exten‐

sion of the customer's vehicle purchase experience at the dealership,” Steve Hill, vice president and general manager, GM Cus‐

tomer Care and Aftersales, said in the statement.

The brand, launched as Mr. Goodwrench in 1974, was once a household name when GM was a much bigger automaker. The name,

which GM changed from Mr. Goodwrench to Goodwrench Service Plus in the '90s, also was a major sponsor of NASCAR racing‐‐

including Dale Earnhardt Sr.'s car‐‐for several years until it dropped its involvement in 2007.

Goodwrench was promoted to customers as the assurance that trained technicians would service and repair any GM vehicle

brought to a GM dealership using GM factory‐made replacement parts.

But in recent years, many of GM's 4,500 dealers failed to use the Goodwrench signs at their stores or put the logo in advertising,

the source said.

To all AACC membership:

Thanks for allowing me the opportunity to run Springfest for the last four years, it’s been a blast. It’s a lot of work being chairman, but with the right helpers it makes things a little easier, and I had a great group. The experience has allowed me a chance to meet a lot of nice people along the way, within the club and outside. But as we all know, all good things have to come to an end. So come May, 2 2011, I will be stepping down due to personal reasons.

This has been a great show and we get a lot of good feedback about the show and the venue. It would be a big loss to the club to drop Springfest. So I am hoping someone will step up and take over. If someone offers, I will work with them step‐by‐step starting in Dec. 2010 for the show on May 1, 2011.

December thru March is the busiest time, so we need to get started. The guidelines are all spelled out, so it should be easy for someone to learn the system. If you are interested please call me ASAP!!!!

Thank you,

GM may revive performance brands

Allentown Area Corvette Club ‘Vetter’s Letter | Vol. 17, Iss. 12 | December 2010

By MARK RECHTIN, AUTOMOTIVE NEWS on 11/08/2010

General Motors Co. is studying whether to revive brands for performance vehi‐

cles to improve its image among go‐fast car shoppers.

At the Specialty Equipment Market Association trade show in Las Vegas last

week, GM unveiled the Z‐Spec Chevrolet Cruze, Volt and Spark cars, and two SS‐

badged Chevrolet Camaros.

The debuts signal that the company's new performance vehicles and motorsports division‐‐launched eight weeks ago‐‐is looking

harder at performance brands, said Chris Perry, vice president of Chevrolet marketing.

Last year GM put development of performance‐branded vehicles on hold and reassigned about 60 engineers. It's still possible to

buy a Camaro SS or Cadillac CTS‐V developed by the disbanded group.

“Right now we don't have a performance sub‐brand in us,” Perry said in an interview. “For now it might not be a sub‐brand. It

might be initiatives around parts and accessories.”

Despite all the hoopla at GM's SEMA booth, the Chevrolet Z‐Spec and SS vehicles were big on badging and body kits but light on

actual performance modifications.

Perry noted that GM traditionally has left performance modifications‐‐which typically void the manufacturer's warranty‐‐to after‐

market suppliers. He prefers to look at the Z‐Spec trio of vehicles as “canvases for personalization.”

“There's a lot of passion around the Chevrolet brand. A woman here had a Chevy bowtie tattoo on her neck,” Perry said. “There is a

latent fondness we have to ignite. Is building a performance parts business the way to do that? Maybe.”

GM Shares to be Priced in Low-$30 Range By NICK SAPORITO, www.GMINSIDENEWS.com on 11/16/2010

This morning General Motors has officially announced it will increase its share price after in‐

creasingly high demand for new GM's shares. GM now states that they will be selling 365 million

shares of the company in a price range of $32.00 to $33.00 per share. That is up from the previ‐

ous $26.00 to $29.00 range.

The company also announced that it has increased the proposed size of its Series B mandatory

convertible junior preferred stock offering from $3 billion to $4 billion, consisting of 80 million

shares, excluding the amount that the underwriters have the option to purchase to cover over‐

allotments, if any. The final terms of both offerings will be determined at the time of pricing
