‘Vetter’s Letter

Well, some time has passed since I last wrote one of these articles. I will start by saying since I was last President, our club has really prospered. We now have more members and we attend a wide variety of functions and events. Our two shows, Spring Fest and Fiberglass & Steel have enabled us to expand our donations to additional charities. The mem‐bership, thanks to the hard work of Laura and Marty, has grown to record num‐bers. We are now attending more varied events with more members participat‐ing. Jeff Mohring has planned some terrific Mystery trips, and we had a blast this September on the trip to Mid America’s Corvette Funfest in Effingham, Illinois.

Looking ahead, beginning with our Fall Show, "Fiberglass and Steel," I hope we can continue to take this club forward.

Please remember to pray for our men and women serving our country who make it possible for us to enjoy the freedom to live as we choose. Remember, freedom isn't free!

Navigation Contest

(a.k.a. road rallye). The

concept is the same, but

the format is a little differ‐

ent for this year. Pricing

for 2011 is $35 per person

which includes buffet breakfast, road rally, admission to ‘America

On Wheels Museum’, dinner at the museum and one adult bever‐

age of your choice. (“Museum and dinner only” cost is $30.)

The event starts at the North End Wanderers Athletic Association at

308 Woodlawn Ave. Bethlehem, PA 18017, (610)‐691‐9437, where

everyone will meet for breakfast and get instructions. Breakfast will

start between 9:45 – 10:00 am with instructions given at 10:30 am.

PLEASE be at the N.E.W.A.A. by 10:15 am before the instructions

start. The first car out will start approximately 11:00 am. This is

where the event is a little different — you know the location for

dinner but not the final destination to turn in all your paperwork.

After turning in your paperwork, you get the directions to dinner.

Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and last place, and there

will also be a raffle.

Show Us Your Ride by Marty & Laura Hegyi (Membership Co-Chairs, ‘69, ‘07) Tim Wright of Perkasie, PA is one of our newer club members and

the proud owner of this 1999 Torch Red fixed roof coupe with black

interior. Tim purchased the car in January 2011 and it only has

12,000 miles on the odometer. It has the 5.7‐liter LS1 engine pro‐

ducing 345 horsepower through a 6‐speed manual transmission.

The car is nicely optioned and includes the Z51 performance pack‐

age, active handling system and Bose speaker and amp system. It is

also highly modified with drilled and slotted rotors, Z06‐look rear

brake vents, engine dress up kit (color matched w/polished stainless

steel), B&B exhaust, K&N induction intake, a Hurst shifter and 2004

chrome‐plated wheels.

Tim says he loves this car because "It looks good in the driveway and

even better on the road. It's a blast to drive and best of all…it's a

Corvette!!!”

GM Recalls 2011 and 2012 ’Vettes from CorvetteOnline.com If you have a new C6 Corvette, listen up. General Motors is currently recalling 6,006 2011 and 2012 Corvette coupes

due to a rear hatch safety issue. Corvettes sold in both the United States and Canada are affected by the recall.

The recall came after testing was done on the Corvettes in September for a future European safety regulation. The

testing revealed that the rear hatch hinges of some 2011 and 2012 Corvettes did not meet a federal safety standard.

General Motors told the Detroit News that the hinge issue could cause the rear hatch to detach from the rest of the car

if it was involved in a crash. Upon finding the issue, GM stopped shipment of the Corvette model for three days to

investigate.

Most of the Corvettes affected, 5,755 to be exact, were sold in the United States. The other 217 were sold in the Cana‐

dian market. Of the 6,006 total affected, about 4,000 are 2011 models. While this safety issue is obviously a concern,

GM has not gotten word of any injuries, crashes or customer complaints that related to the rear hatch hinge problem.

If you are unsure if your Corvette is one affected by the recall, don’t worry; GM will be sending out letters to the own‐

ers of affected cars by mid‐October. Affected Corvette owners can then take their cars to a Chevrolet dealership to

have the recalled parts replaced with ones that meet safety regulations.

It’s EASY Being Green-er! by Michelle Minnich (’00 Conv.) Instead of relying entirely on mechanical heating and cooling, use

sun exposure and shading to regulate your home’s temperature, and

reduce energy bills.

• Grow vines on trellises on the hottest side of the house, keeping

the trellis at least 6 in. from the wall to provide a buffer of cool air.

• Plant trees to provide summer shade and block winter winds on

the house. Deciduous trees provide the additional benefit of

letting sun through in the winter!

Sat., Oct. 8 — Several groups from both the Easton and Allentown clubs

cruised down to the Peddlers Village Car show. Different packs of

‘Vettes left from the 33 Park & Ride, the Hellertown Diner, and White‐

hall. The weather was fantastic for a change. Both clubs’ members

took home more than a few trophies. Winners in their respective

classes were: Gary Warmkessel, Marty & Laura Hegyi, Jeff & Janet

Mohring, Rich Piccirilli, Frank Shutlesky, Dennis & Bonnie Corona,

George Wetherhold, Jim Peters, and John Kostick. Also, AACC and

Corvette Club of Delaware Valley shared the best club participation

award. Since CCDV is a perpetual winner of this award, they gave AACC

the plaque for 2011.

Ocean City Corvette Weekend by Len Feinberg (’10 GS)


Fri‐Sat, Oct. 14‐15 — The Free States Corvette Club annual Ocean City, MD show was another success. Reportedly

there were over 660 Corvettes rolling the boards in the Saturday evening parade lasting over 2 hours.

AACC’s big winners of the weekend were Gary &

Joann Warmkessel who won both 1st PLACE and

took the coveted GOVERNOR’S CHOICE in C2!

American Legends at Long’s Park by Len Feinberg (’10 GS) Sun., Oct. 23 — A large group of 14 Corvettes caravanned down to Long’s Park in Lancaster for their all GM show

hosted by the Lancaster County Corvette Club. There was quite a mix of vehicles from Chevy‐powered street rods to a

pristine ‘59 Caddy and, of course, lots of Corvettes. It was a

mostly sunny day and Long’s Park was a nice venue for the

show. The group who attended included Jim Peters, Barb &

Dave Parsons, Frank Shutletsky, Chris & Phil Keiser, Pete Lileck,

Ginny Fogel & Jim Hedden , Nancy & Curtis Jesse, John Kostick,

Bonnie & Dennis Corona, Dave Hornung, Laura & Marty Hegyi,

Joann & Gary Warmkessel, Linda & Glen Salter in their brand

new 2012 Grand Sport, and some guy with a camera.

Big winners of the group were Joann and Gary with first place in

the C2 class and Best Paint (Corvette).

The Show That Never Was… by Kevin Minnich (’00) Sun., Oct. 30 — AACC’s Fall show was to debut at

SteelStacks and the ArtsQuest Center in Bethlehem,

PA. Mother Nature had other plans. The day before

the show, the Lehigh Valley received 3 to 8 inches of

snow, causing poor travel conditions and power out‐

ages across the area. Thinking of everyone’s safety,

event organizers, Dave Hornung and Kevin Minnich,

made the tough decision to cancel the event.

With 70 Corvettes pre‐registered, the phones were

busy Saturday afternoon explaining to everyone what

weather conditions were like in the A‐B‐E area and

thanking folks for pre‐registering. Because there

were limited weekends remaining in the year, with a threat of even more poor weather, the seven (7) NCCC‐sanctioned

event was formally cancelled. Everyone, including the staff at SteelStacks, are looking forward to hosting an event at

this exciting new venue. Plans will be underway in the coming weeks for a more suitable date in 2012.

NOTE: Special thanks to Gary George for hanging out with Michelle and I in the cold weather of Sunday morning in the

unlikely event that someone actually showed up for the 7 NCCC sanctions. (BTW: No one came and it was cold!)

2012 Offers a Great Event Line-up! If you thought 2011 offered a great lineup of old favorites and new goodies, then 2012's offerings

will really get you geared up! We have two "Museum in Motion" tours scheduled so far, taking groups to the Sebring

Corvette Racing event, with several cool stops leading up to the great opening race in March, and to the Woodward

Dream Cruise for an awesome Cruise Tour in August. We also hit the road with the Kentucky State Police in October for

our third annual 1‐Lap event, this time with an "Artisans and Musicians" theme.

Back on the schedule is our C5/C6 Bash April 26‐28, C4/ZR‐1 Gathering May 17‐19, Anniversary Celebration August 30‐

September 1 and Vets 'n Vettes November 1‐3.

Those with a need for speed will notice we've moved Z06 Fest to June 6‐9, and it now overlaps with NCM's newest

event ‐ Zpeed Fest (June 7‐9) focusing on our "Z" Corvettes! We also have our popular HPDEs scheduled at VIR,

Thunderhill and Autobahn.

Back on this year's calendar is the R8C Reunion right here in Bowling Green October 4‐6, and we will hit the road

September 26‐29 with a Historic Motorama Reunion. Last but not least is another newbie ‐ Barn Raising II co‐hosted by

Vette Barn May 24‐26.
