Alladale incorporates the upper reaches of tworivers – the Carron and its tributary the Alladale– as well as a dozen hill lochs. The rivers andlochs offer world-class wild brown trout fishing, while the lochs also offer challenging fishing forArctic char, a speciality of the ScottishHighlands. Hire a ghillie to benefit from localknowledge, discover the best beats, or gainexpert tuition for beginners. The fishing seasonfor brown trout and Arctic char runs from 15March to 6 October. The prime Atlantic salmonfishing on the Carron, downstream of thereserve, is available by prior arrangement withour neighbouring lodges.

For a really special experience, Alladale can also arrangeheli-fishing on the reserve, enabling guests to access themore remote hill lochs that are otherwise difficult toreach and therefore rarely fished.

The absence of natural predators in theHighlands has led to an overpopulation of reddeer. Their intensive browsing inhibits theregeneration of woodland, which has negativeconsequences for the entire ecosystem.Selective culling allows us to keep deernumbers at Alladale to a manageable level andassists us in our long-term goal of restoring thebalance of nature. We also have a rifle targetshooting range, with expert tuition available forbeginners. The stalking season runs from 1stJuly to 15th February. Please contactreservations for rates.

Alladale also boasts one of the finest clayshooting set-ups in the Highlands, with a seriesof automated traps to simulate different kinds ofbird shooting, and expert instruction on hand.

Alladale Wilderness Reserve offers first-class stalking across five glens, expertly guided by ourresident rangers. Stags are brought off the hill using Garron ponies, in the traditional way.

Deer Stalking

Under no circumstances will we guarantee anything being shot.

Charge is per rifle, this means that one gun will be taking out on the stalk. Rangers will allow 2 people to share this gun maximum. A third person can come for the walk but cannot share gun. Maximum that will be taken out is 3 people. If all 3 people want to shoot a second gun must be paid for.

If guests take their own guns, they are charged per gun that goes on the stalk.Guests do not need a permit / gun license as they are accompanied by a fully qualified ranger. Animals are wild, therefore there are no guarantees forshots, however stalkers will ensure guests have as much opportunity as possible. The stalk and culling of deer is carried out with the highest standard of welfare.

Rates also include skill tests on the rifle range with guidelines and tips from rangers.

Guests are welcome to use lodge binoculars.
