MORGAN SHANNON

Shannon led Cave Spring to the VHSL Group AA

championship including a semifinal victory over four-

time defending champion Loudoun County. She finished

the season with 434 kills including 19 in a 3-0 win over

Jamestown in the state final. Shannon had a 41.4 hitting

percentage, 406 digs, 48 aces and 42 blocks. She set Cave

Spring’s career record for kills with 1,434 and was named

River Ridge District and Region IV player of the year for the

second straight season. Shannon has signed with Davidson.

What stands out about the 2011 season: “I will

never forget the teamwork and camaraderie that

resulted in a state championship. We all put in so much

hard work this year and in years past working towards

the goal of winning states. I think it gave us confidence

in our abilities and allowed each and every player to step

up at the right time to make us successful.”

Finished the season three assists shy of 1,000 with 997 as the Knights went 29-3 and won

the Group AA championship. … Totalled 138 kills, 53 blocks, 232

digs and 64 aces. … Named to the first-team on the Region IV and River Ridge District all-star teams. … Ranks second in Cave Spring history with

2,031 career assists.

Led Hidden Valley to the VHSL Group AA semifinals

with a victory over Cave Spring in the River Ridge District tournament final along the way. … Named first-team All-Region IV. … Finished the season

with 837 assists, 71 aces, 86 digs and

55 blocked shots. … Served at 95 percent. … Signed scholarship with James Madison.

Led Bath County to the VHSL Group A Division 1 championship after the

Chargers lost to James River in a Pioneer District regular-season playoff

and the Pioneer tournament final. … Region C and Pioneer District player of the year. … Finished season with 336

kills and 418 digs including 18 kills and 15 digs in the state semifinals.

Region C and Three Rivers District player of the year. … Led Auburn to the

Region C Division 2 championship and a berth in the Division 2 state semifinals

King led Roanoke Catholic to the VIS Division III championship in his first year with the Celtics following six years as a varsity assistant and

JV coach at Hidden Valley. Catholic finished 19-4 after starting the season 0-2. The state title was the first for the school since 1970.
