Summary

The outsider of the story, Margot, is different from everyone in the class. Margot keeps to herself and doesn’t like to associate with the other students, and her classmates make fun of her for it.

Summary

On Venus, it rains for seven years straight, then stops for an hour, then starts back up again. Margot’s classmates decide to gang up on her and lock her in the supply closet while the rain stops.

Summary

Everyone except Margot goes outside when the rain stops. They are having a good time when someone feels a raindrop. They are horrified when they have to come back inside and they realize that Margot never saw sunshine. They feel very guilty about doing that to her.

Sci-Fi Elements

What makes this story sci-fi is that it rains for seven years, they live on the planet Venus, and they can go into space without spacesuits and their bodies aren’t damaged in any way.

Our Response

This story was very interesting. The fact that it rains for seven years straight is crazy. It would be dreary all the time and some people might have depression. Some kids can connect to Margot because they too are different from other kids at school.
