My book about eating

Before I was born, my mommy made sure I grew healthy and strong inside her tummy.

When I was born, I was very small. I needed a little extra help to grow big. The doctors put a small tube in my nose that went all the way into my stomach so that good food could get into my tummy.



My mommy, my daddy, the doctors and the nurses all made sure I was getting bigger and stronger. I did not need the tube in my nose anymore. I was able to drink all the good food a baby needs to continue to grow. I drank from a bottle.






I am a big boy now.I no longer need tubes to bring food into my tummy.I have my mouth!



I use my mouth to talk.





I use my mouth to drink.



I can also use my mouth to eat!





I still have a lot of growing yet to do.



When I eat to make my body grow, it makes my mommy so happy.



When I eat to make my body grow,



it makes my daddy so happy.



I need to eat good food to grow.



I need to use my mouth to eat.





I need to understand how food feels in my mouth.





When water comes into my mouth, I know just what to do!

I take a sip.I close my mouth.I breathe.I swallow.



When I take soft food off a spoon I know just what to do!

I take the spoon.I place it in my mouth.I use my lips to clean the food off the spoon.I close my mouth.I breathe.I swallow.





When I take a bite of food I know it is not like the water that I swallow. I know that it is not like the soft food that I swallow. It is a piece. I can feel it on my tongue.



My tongue can feel food.Sometimes the feeling of food on my tongue makes me want to gag.





I can make my tongue happy about food my licking fun foods like looly pops. I can make fun foods touch the tip, the middle, the sides and the back of my tongue!



I can also touch my tongue with a toothbrush. I can brush the tip, the middle, the sides and the back of my tongue.





So how do I eat with my mouth?



I need to turn the piece of food into the soft food I know how to swallow. So I mash it, and mash it, and mash it with my teeth. I feel the piece getting smaller and

softer with my tongue. When I feel the piece is all soft and small.I breathe.I swallow.





1. I use my teeth to take a bite.



2. I use my teeth to mash that bite of food till it gets nice and soft.





3. I can taste the wonderful flavors of that bite inside my mouth.



4. I can make the food soft inside my mouth by using my teeth and my tongue to mash it.



5. I can breathe.





6. I can swallow.



My mommy will be so happy to see me eating a Tim Bit.





My dad will be so happy to see me eating pasta.



We can order pizza!





I can eat cake at a birthday party with my friends!



We can have picnics in the park!





My mommy and daddy will be so proud of me!
