Fellow Members,

As Wanda and I head to Reno this month for the Grand Lodge Convention, I want to wish everyone a Happy 4th of July and that you get to spend some fun time with family and friends.

While July brings a quieter time at the Lodge don’t forget to bring the family to the Lodge for the 4th of July Picnic. The lodge provides hamburgers and hot dogs carefully cooked by our wonderful Burger Crew. After lunch, for a fun time enjoy the horse races that everyone can participate in. For those planning on attending the Lodge meeting in July, the Lodge meeting will be held on July 18th since the first Tuesday falls on the 4th this year.

Every August is time for our annual Lodge cleaning. The bar re-mains open during the cleaning and we will have entertainment, but the kitchen will be closed the first two weeks of August. Please check the Wapiti calendar in this issue to see what may be availa-ble at the Lodge.

Many of you have already heard the news, our Lodge won nine state and district awards at the Arizona Elks Association State Con-vention held in Tempe this past May. These awards are the result of the hard work by our committees. The awards were for our Youth Activities, Drug Awareness, Americanism, Lodge Bulletin (Wapiti Wind) and Membership. Additionally, one of our Jamaica Elementary sixth grade students won the state award for her essay on Americanism.

Speaking of membership, I am happy to report that our Lodge had a net gain this past year of 200 members! Our Lodge far outpaced

all of the Lodges in our state. I cannot tell you how proud I was to represent our Lodge when these numbers were announced at the convention. Thank you to all of our members who sponsored new members this past year.

In the past, the Lodge allowed non-members to enter the Lodge to play cards, Mahjong, etc. Unfortunately, some of these guests abused the privilege and entered the Lodge for lunch and bar. To be fair to all of our dues paying members the House Committee has set a time deadline that all non-members entering for one of the social activities must vacate the Lodge by 11AM. This rule does not apply to guests signed in by a member or events and meetings booked into the Lodge Room. All members and guests must adhere to the current three-time rule for signing in guests. After the guest has been signed in three times they must join the Lodge or they will not be granted future access. Violations will be noted and the member will be notified by the Committee. Again, this is the only way we can be fair to all dues paying members. Non-members who enjoy our Lodge should be encouraged to join our Lodge.

ELKETTE PRESIDENT MESSAGE

May and June have been eventful at the Lodge with Mother’s Day Brunch, Memorial Day Ob-servance at Havasu Cemetery, Flag Day Observance and Fa-ther’s Day Brunch which the Elkettes proudly served to all who attended.

As we prepare to go dark for July and August, some events still occur. At the July 4th Family Picnic Elkettes will bring side dishes and desserts and assist with the Horse Races, mostly to make sure you get your bets in. Also, during the August shut down, the Elkettes dedicate a day for Lodge cleaning by wash-ing tables and chairs, and once again having to re-move gum from the underside of those tables. I would ask that you who partake in this activity, please try to get a paper napkin for your gum. These napkins are available throughout the Lodge. Also, the summer gives us time to start preparations for the various events that will dominate our time from September with the Family Picnic thru March

with the Crazy Auction and the Awards Banquet. As Elkettes in this wonderful Lodge, I find there is almost always something to keep us busy, and I am

proud that we can assist.

The Elks Youth Activities donated $300 to the Lake Havasu City Museum of History Chil-dren’s exhibit. The museum will add interac-tive materials to help kids learn about regional plants and animals. Youth Activities Chair HR Radke along with businessman Todd Hilde arranged for a special wheelchair to be built and donated to Elisa Toy who developed Ewing Cancer at the age of 8. Alt-hough she has undergone several opera-tions on the affected leg, she has not let it interfere with her activities including playing golf on the high school team and the Elks Junior Golf. GOLF CLUB NEWS

Greetings golfers. Well the warm weather is upon us again and our winter golf buddies have returned

to a calmer climate. Fortunately our golf rates will be returned to our lower summer rates starting in June. Hopefully the course will be receiving more water before then. The June away tournament will be in St. George Utah and should be perfect again. The golf courses are

always first class up there and the Utah Elks put on a really nice steak BBQ for the guys at their lodge. The Tournament for July 17th will be at Emerald Canyon Golf Course. There is still a hole in one fund available to any club member to enter. Just come and see me with your entry fee to enter. Make sure to check the board for upcoming events. All signup sheets, as always, will be located on the club board at the lodge or every Tuesday at the Refuge Golf Course. See you guys at the golf course.

VAGABONDS NEWS We have had a busy year with a number of trips throughout the year. Beginning in June we are dark for the months of June, July and August. Even though we don’t have any official meetings, many of our members meet for lunch at noon the second Wednesday of each month. Our regular meetings begin in Sep-tember.

Our first scheduled outing in September will be Williams and those dates are Sep-tember 13th to the 17th at the Railside RV Ranch. If you don’t already have your reservations, they may be full. As an alternate, we are using the Canyon Motel and RV Park, which is very close to the Railside RV Ranch. This campout is

always very well attended. By September everyone is ready to escape our heat.

Our trip in October is Lakeside Casino and RV Park in Pahrump and the dates are October 19th to the 22nd. When you make your reservations, be sure to let them know you are part of the Vaga-bonds as they are going to keep us all as close together as they can.

Our Club continues to grow with over 200 members. Welcome to Doug and Carol Dulin who are new members. We look for-ward to camping with both of you.

Our campouts are always close by – usually no more than 150 miles away. We always have lots of fun with pot lucks, golf, off-roading, shopping and a few adult beverages.

For those of you who travel in the summer, have a safe and fun summer. I look forward to seeing everyone at our next meeting Wednesday, September 13th.

RV Parking Volunteers Needed

The Lodge’s RV park brought in over $34,000 for the Lodge this past year so it is proving to be a valuable asset. During the winter months we have a Camp Ground host to register guests, answer questions, etc.. However, during the Summer we need volunteers to answer questions about our RV parking and to make sure those RVs staying in our park have paid to do so.

We have a cell phone with a dedicated number for the RV park. People planning a visit to our Lodge often call this number to get information about the RV park and our Lodge. We need a volunteer to keep this phone for a month to answer questions regarding the above. You will be given a sheet with answers to the most common questions so it shouldn’t be too challenging.

RV parking monitors are also needed to make sure RVs staying in our park have paid to do so. RVs that have paid will have their registration form posted in the window. A simple drive by of the vehicles in the park will verify whether they have registered or not. If not, the Parking Monitor should remind them they need to register. Volunteers may sign up for one week at a time. A drive by of the RV parking area should be done 3 or 4 times during that week.

Volunteers are need for the months of July, August and September. If

you are interested in helping with the above please call Jim Joubert 714-

YACHT CLUB NEWS We had a small but dedicated group participate in the EYC Memorial Putt Putt event. We are consid-ering changing the date to sometime in the winter

and we will have it at the lodge. The money we raised this event will go Mile Mark-ers Therapy here in town. Thank you Lisa Stilson for your excellent bloody Mary’s enjoyed by all. We held our first full moon cruise on June 9th. We met in Thompson Bay by the

buoys and headed to Barker Beach for fun and liba-tions. Finally, we went full moon cruising. I want to send a huge thank you to all the EYC boats that attended the safety meeting on June 7th and participated in the Swim Across the Lake on June 14th. Elk’s care! On June 25th, we had a great time at Three Dunes with Bloodies and Burritos. Please watch your emails for upcoming events. If you have a boating activity you would like to see happen, volunteer to host. We are looking forward to a great HOT sum-mer of fun. We will see you on the water.
