Fellow Members,

As I reflect on the past year I can hardly believe how fast it actually went by. This year was made up of emotions from anxiety to elations. I would like to thank the members of this Lodge for the support and kind words throughout the year. It really meant a lot to me.

I was going to try to thank all the volunteers and members indi-vidually that have done so much to move the lodge forward this year but there are so many I’d be afraid I’d leave someone out. March 9th is the crazy auction, Saturday March 16th we will be serving Corned Beef and Cabbage, March 23rd is the Awards Banquet and on March 30th the new Officers will are installed.

In closing I would like to thank you, the Members for the support and kindness you have given to me and Debbie. I would mostly like to thank my lovely wife and best friend for all the help, support and encouragement she has given me throughout the year. She’s the best!

ELKETTE PRESIDENT MESSAGE

We had another great Elkette month with the Elks. I am so proud to be part of this organization. Even with some of the negative things we hear the good outweighs it. So let’s move on with positivity and happiness that we can make money in our communi-ty to give to the less fortunate.

Our pie sales have been so successful we were able to give $1000 to the VFW for the Veterans benefit fund to help Veterans with emergency housing needs. We were also able to donate $1000 to the Veterans court here in Lake Havasu. This is an intensive, outpatient program where Veterans participate in counseling treatment, active outside court activity, and inside court partici-pation (classes, meetings, hearings). They attend for 6-8 months. Upon graduation the veteran participates in a graduation in front of his fellow justice involved Veterans. Thank you fellow Elks and Elkettes for supporting us in this great charity giving adven-ture. Elkette Carol Grant has been making some wonderful treats in our kitchen to sell along with the pies. When you see her please thank her for her time. Thank you to Elks Rick and Lisa Stilson for donating the Elkettes a freezer for pie storage. It will make this adventure easier.

The awards banquet for the Elks and Elkettes is on March 23rd, 2019. Awards honoring both Elks and Elkettes for the past year will be presented. Hope to see many of you there. Elkettes are

free. Pick up your ticket in the office and purchase ticket for spouses/guests.

We will begin to donate our 52 club profits this month. We have chosen 13 charities that have been suggested by fellow Elkettes. Each charity name is placed in a box on a slip of paper. We will draw two each at our monthly meeting that will receive a $500 donation.

Our Valentine’s Dinner Dance was a great success. Thank you to all that helped with set up. I think the room was lovely and all had fun on the dance floor and with the photo booth. We are now sponsoring a game night once a month at Prestige living center. The folks living there enjoy seeing us. It gives them outside visitors and we have something in common. Many of them are or were Elks and Elkettes. Everyone is welcome on the last Thursday of the month from 6:30-7:30 to join us with this activity. I am looking forward to the upcoming Elkette year.

Be kind to everyone. Respectfully submitted, Eva D. Fox Elkette President 2018-2019 916-417-3176 or [email protected]

With proceeds from the Craft Fair, the Elkettes donated $650.00 to the Food Bank for the purchase of new carts. The new carts will be more stable allowing them to be moved more easily through the parking lot. Pictured from left are Food Bank Manager Colleen Mattinson, Craft Fair Chair Susan Seales and Elkette President Eva D. Fox.

Successful pie sales resulted in the Elkettes donating $1,000.00 to the VFW Veterans Benefit Fund. These funds are used to provide housing for Veterans in need. Pictured are Elkette 2nd Vice President Joyce Bradley, Elkette Presi-dent Eva D. Fox and VFW Post 9401 Past Commander Don Underwood.

Ronald McDonald Houses were donated to John Law (3rd from left) to be placed in the Eagles Aerie and the VFW Post to collect tabs from aluminum cans. John, along with his wife Cheryl, collect all the tabs, redeem them and send the money to the Ronald McDonald House Charities. These charities provide places, steps from hospitals, for families with sick children to stay. Also pictured from left: Elkette President Eva D. Fox, Lecturing Knight Chuck Fox who painted the houses, and Elk Tom Bradley who constructed the houses.

VAGABONDS CLUB NEWS

We now have elected a new slate of offic-ers which will be in place at the beginning of our new year – April 2019. It’s im-portant they get the support of our mem-bers in order for them to do their job. Re-member, these are volunteer positions and officers give a great deal of their time to make sure our Lodge and Clubs run

smoothly. What a great Lodge we have and it couldn’t run smoothly without our volunteers and support of our officers. Our Vagabonds Club continues to grow with fun campouts each month with the exception of June, July and August when we to dark. Our campout the month of February was in Golden Val-ley and hosted by the Bob & Barb Volk. Of course there were happy hours, a pot luck, golfing, off-roading and Bloody Mary’s provided by the Volks. Fun was had by all. Our March campout will be hosted by Omer & Donna Ethier and Al & Marti Johnson at the AVI. Dates are March 21st thru the 23rd. There will be golf, off-roading, games and, of course, gambling. Also there will be margaritas for happy hour on Thursday night.

- April 24th thru the 27th will be Tri-State in Mesa coordinat-ed by Hank Thonnard.

- May 16th thru the 18th will be in Wickenburg hosted by the

Sims and Bradleys.

We will be dark for the months of June, July and August. Our first campout after that will be the month of September in Wil-liams. The dates are September 11th thru the 14th at Railside RV Ranch. If you have not made your reservations for this cam-pout, you should do so as it is very well attended. They are actually closed for the season until March 1st; however, you can leave a message asking for reservations. Our meetings are always the second Wednesday of each month (except June, July and August). They start at 1:00, but if you would like to join us for lunch, please be there by noon so all can be served prior to the beginning of the meeting. Also the Queen of Hearts closes at 12:45 so get there early to have a chance at winning the big money.

Marti Johnson Vagabonds Secretary

FOR YOUR INFORMATION

It has been brought to my attention that some of our Members are not receiving their copy of the Wapiti Wind via regular mail.

At times a glitch occurs when the addresses are being placed on the newsletter resulting in the names and addresses not appearing on the address section of that particular issue. With over 3,200 Members receiving their Wapiti Wind by reg-ular mail, it is nearly impossible to determine which addresses were skipped.

Extra copies of the newsletter are always available in the office. If you want the missed issue mailed to you, contact the Lodge office or myself and we will see to it that one is sent to you. If you hear of anyone not receiving their newsletter, please give them this information.

The Monday Night Dancers recently donated $250.00 each to the Our La-dy of the Lake Soup Kitchen and Mohave County Sheriff K-9 Foundation. The Soup Kitchen serves approximately 1300 meals each month to anyone, regardless of faith, in need of a good meal. The K-9 Foundation, which promotes positive community relations between the Canine Unit and area businesses, organizations and individuals, will use the funds to help care for and train dogs to detect drugs and track and locate runaways, lost or missing children, older citizens and fleeing suspects. Accepting on behalf of the Soup Kitchen is Evelyn Woodward (seated left) and Mohave County K-9 Foundation Board Member Ginnie Howardson (seated right).

Upcoming themes for Monday Night Dancers are: March 4 - Mardi Gras (dress up and wear masks if you wish) March 18 - St Patrick Day (wear green)

The PER Association donated a combined $1,500.00 to Parks and Recreation to support funding assistance for underprivi-leged kids to participate in Teen Break and Summer Youth Camp. Pictured are PER Association Vice-President Gary Parsons and Parks and Recreation Supervisor Donna Best-Carlton.
