Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs

What ideologies does Alex Clare display in relation to Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs?

Page 2: Alexclare

This is Alex Clare’s cover art of the sheet music to his song ‘Too Close’.

Clare’s appearance suggests that you do not need to dress in a smart manner to achieve success.

There isn’t much happening in the poster from a design view. The background is black but the use of white text and Clare’s bright shirt really stands out to draw the

audiences attention to him.

Clare displays no kind of ideology in this poster. His casual posture of hands in pockets and mussed hair and appearance suggests a casual approach to life,

possibly suggesting that to achieve success you just need to relax.

The use of the institutional companies give it the look of a film poster instead of a music promotion.

The content of the poster is rather basic with only the name of the song, artist and song information on it.

This is Alex Clare’s cover art of the sheet music to his song ‘Too Close’.

His smart/casual appearance of jeans and shirts as well as his stubble and hair style are easy for his target audience to imitate and as he is dressed in the latest fashion he is also

indentifying with his audience.

The method of drawing the eye to Clare and the name of his song paired with the black background suggests that he is a new artist with bright new things to bring in to the

music industry.

The poster shows no hint of the artist’s attitude towards himself except for maybe that he does not care how people view him, he is just laid back.

The fact that the institutional names are almost as big as the artist’s name suggest that maybe he is riding on the back of their success and may not be very good.

The poster does not refer to Alex is an informal manner and the use of his name is instead factual. This does not give us any ideas in to the characteristics of him.

This is a magazine interview with Alex Clare on his entry to the music industry.

Clare is dressed in smart/formal attire of jeans, shirt, brogues and hat. He has moved on from stubble to beard which makes him seem much more casual and

laidback.

The picture of Clare takes up half the page making it obvious that he is the focus and although his name is big, it is not the centre of attention suggesting that the

audience will already know who he is by appearance.

Clare is laying back on a sofa with a beer in hand and pizza and Doritos all over it and the sofa. This gives Clare an extremely laid back and casual look suggesting

that eating junk food and laying about is all you need to do to be successful in life. It does require much effort.

Clare’s relaxed behaviour suggests he is happy with himself and his actions and does not care how people really see him. He is a laid back person and does not

care about and will not change who he is despite his new fame.

This gives his fans the impression that he is just a normal guy who likes to drink beer and ate pizza making him more identifiable. The sofa and the multiple beers and pizzas suggests to the fans that Clare could be their friend and would be happy for you to turn

up and join him for a laugh.

The content of the article is an interview with Clare about his fame and dating past with Amy Winehouse. It talks about him in a rather formal manner by referring to him as

“Clare” or using his full name which does not suggest that his audience are his friends.

Clare is not looking at the camera directly and is instead laughing/smiling at something off screen. One leg is up on the sofa and he is laying back giving him a friendly, relaxed and comfortable look. This makes his audience feel they can easily relate to him and

gives him a ‘one of the lads’ persona.
