Services

Technology Consulting fHorizon Nuclear Power– GIS Consultancy Services. Lead contractor responsible for developing Horizon’s internal GIS capability. The work included: design and implementation of the core GIS system; web mapping and training services. This work will contribute to Horizon’s ongoing work to develop a new nuclear plant at Wylfa, North Wales. fSellafield Ltd, UK Consultancy Services. Provision of GIS/Information Management services, including the development of internal mobile mapping and BIM capabilities. These services were delivered at the Sellafield site in West Cumbria, UK.

Delivering on our promises

Database Services fEnvironment Agency, UK- Catchment Sensitive Farming (CSF) Water Quality Viewer. Project focused on the development of an integrated MS Access and Excel application to provide Environment Agency staff access to time-series profiles of flow, monitoring and water quality data. The regularly updated tool is used to support the operational activities of the Environment Agency. fKuwait Oil Company - Kuwait Environmental Remediation Programme. Development of a project geodatabase, GIS and web mapping system to assist in the 15 year programme to remediate contaminated sites across Kuwait. Work includes the management of millions of sampling records; GIS analysis and development of web mapping products. fEnvironment Agency and Natural Resources Wales - Water Resource GIS (WRGIS) Amec Foster Wheeler led the design and development of the national WRGIS system which is used to support the strategic and operational assessment of water resources and new abstractions across England and Wales

Visualization and Simulation fNatural England – GIS analysis of degraded habitat restoration potential. Amec Foster Wheeler were commissioned to develop a series of GIS visualisation models to help identify locations where degraded ecosystems could be restored. These models were ultimately combined to develop a final suitability map across England. fEDF Energy - Hinkley Point (HPC) Nuclear Development - Somerset. Creation of 2D and 3D flood risk models and flood risk assessments for the main development site and eight associated developments. This included modelling multiple flood scenarios and the GIS based analysis and presentation of results in the final planning application submission. fAssociation of British Insurers – Assessing Coastal Flood Risks. Amec Foster Wheeler were commissioned to undertake a study to evaluate the risks of coastal flooding along the east coast of England. This work included the use of GIS models to evaluate and visualise: (a) residential and commercial property losses; (b) vulnerability of schools, ambulance/fire services, hospitals; and (c) losses under different climate change and population scenarios.

Remote sensing fConfidential Client - Aquifer storage and recovery (ASR) in northern Qatar. Provision of Remote Sensing and GIS specialist services for two year study to investigate the potential for large scale aquifer storage and recovery (ASR). In-country work included remote sensing of geological, land use and environmental conditions and provision of new data to inform drilling and monitoring investigations. fDefence Estates - Remote Sensing of the Salisbury Plain Training Area. The primary focus of this study was to review the suitability of remote sending methods to evaluate ground conditions across the 380 km2 of the training area. The work included a comprehensive literature review and testing of different remote sensing methods using CASI, aerial photography, Quickbird and IKONOS imagery sources.

Geospatial Services fEnvironment Agency, UK- Development of new Groundwater Vulnerability maps for England and Wales. Amec Foster Wheeler were commissioned to develop a new set of national groundwater vulnerability maps. This work included detailed modelling of geological, soil and climate data; seven review workshops with technical experts and preparation of the final maps. fNatural England/Environment Agency / Defra - GIS classification of the 1940s Agricultural Land Use Survey. Development of a new process to enable the conversion of scanned versions of the 1930-1940s land utilisation survey (LUS) into a national GIS dataset. This dataset has been used to support a range of research activities undertaken by the Environment Agency Natural England and Defra. fDepartment of Environment Northern Ireland, END Round 2 Noise Mapping. Contractor responsible for the creation of new national airport, industry, rail, road noise exposure maps for Northern Ireland. This work involved the modelling of 3D terrain data; noise sources; buildings and land cover data to produce the final maps. This information was supplied to the European Commission to fulfil the requirements of the European Noise Directive (END).

Decision Support Systems and Application Services

fEnvironment Agency and Natural Resource Wales - Water Resource GIS Risk Screening Tool (WRGIS-RST). Following the successful creation of the National WRGIS system, AMEC Foster Wheeler were commissioned to develop a GIS application to help evaluate the suitability of new or revised water abstraction locations across England and Wales. This application is used by the operational teams in the live evaluation process. fCountryside Council for Wales –Assessing socio-economic change in the Dyfi Biosphere. Development of a GIS and web mapping system incorporating census data; links to online data holdings and customised web map pages. This system was developed to help future monitoring activities within this important UNESCO protected area.
