Word from the LCP

Dear Members,

Dear AIESEC Partners, alumni, parents and other stakeholders,

One year ago, I received the opportunity of being the President of AIESEC UA, a new challenge in my life started and I was, and

still am upon today, more than motivated to embrace it. I still remember the election night at the Grote Markt, as if it was yesterday.

With a new vision in mind for AIESEC UA and already many new and creative ideas, I was able to kick-off my term, together with 6

other very motivated team members. In the beginning of our term, we went on planning week in the Ardennes and translated, after

some long days of hard work and many brainstorming sessions, our strategy into very challenging goals. We definitely were

determined to realize this, despite the doubts of some others. Already after one week, we became one group of friends, will ing to

strive for these goals together and bring AIESEC UA to the next level. Already after such a short period of time, I realized that I was

a very lucky man that I could work together with such an amazing 6 people who believed in the planning and were willing to give

themselves for the full 100%!

After one month all of our goals were translated into

concrete action steps and we could hardly wait to start

bringing results together with our members. Thanks to their

dedication, enthusiasm, motivation and their continuous

smile every moment of the day, we were able to

experience such an instructive and successful year! We

recruited 75 members, offered 30 leadership roles with job

rotation, organized 3 national conferences, welcomed 22

trainees and send 22 participants abroad (so far), went

with a large delegation to all the national and 1

international conference, worked closely together with

several partners as JCI, VOKA, UA, AMS, CH Robinson, Deloitte,…, organized several soft skill trainings and many more.

Today, I am an AIESEC‘er for over 3 years and I can say without any doubt that being President of such an amazing committee has

been definitely the highlight of my personal career so far. I have always been, and I will always be proud to be an AIESEC‘er .

Having an impact on your colleague‘s life and experience while growing yourself is for sure one of the most inspiring things in life. It

is amazing to see what all can and has been achieved in only one year time!

I would like to thank those 6 beautiful persons who formed together with myself the executive board, all of our members, the

university, our partners, our trainees, our alumni, the members committee of AIESEC in Belgium and all the others who joined our

journey the past year. I am very grateful that I received the opportunity to lead this organization for the term 2010-2011 and

supporting all of you the entire year in order to realize personal growth all together!

Unfortunately, the year has almost come to an ending and a new team of enthusiastic persons is ready to take over. I will never

forget that this organization gave me this opportunity, challenged me and changed my personal life and vision. Today, I will leave

without a single regret and I am confident that AIESEC UA is in good hands and will even do better next year!

What is AIESEC?

AIESEC is an international platform for young people to explore and develop their leadership potential in order to have a positive impact in society.

Our platform enables organizations to interact and to source high potential university students and recent graduates from all over the world through our exchange program, conferences and physical and virtual communication tools.

Our Vision

Peace and Fulfillment of Humankind‘s Potential.

Our Nature

AIESEC is a global, non-political, independent, not-for-profit organization, run by students and

recent graduates of institutions of higher education. Its members are interested in world issues,

leadership and management. AIESEC does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, gender,

sexual orientation, creed, religion and national, ethnic or social origin.

Our Role

Our international platform enables young people to explore and develop their potential to provide

leadership for a positive impact on society.

Our Core Work

AIESEC provides its members with an integrated development experience comprised of

leadership opportunities, international internships and participation in a global learning

environment.

Activating leadership

What began in 1948 as an

organization with an aim to

develop ―friendly relations‖

between member countries is

now a global association

based in over 111 different

countries and territories.

During its history, AIESEC

has provided more than one

million people with highly

impactful leadership

experience.

Connecting people and

organizations

At every stage of its history,

AIESEC has been connecting

people and organizations.

Throughout time, this has had

a different aim.

In 1950, it was used to bridge

nations after World War II.

In 1970 to develop inter-

nationally aware managers.

Looking for more relevance,

nowadays AIESEC is the

international platform for

young people to discover

and develop their potential.

Our innovative approach to

developing young people

focuses on taking a proactive

role, developing self-

awareness and a personal

vision, building networks, and

developing capacity to drive

change.

Page 5: AIESEC UA - Annual Report 2010-2011

5

AIESEC Difference

Our innovative approach to developing young people focuses on taking a proactive role, developing self-awareness and a personal vision, building networks, and developing capacity to drive change. We do this through an international platform of opportunities that provides our members with over 8 000 leadership opportunities, 10 000 work abroad opportunities, 470 conferences, and virtual tools to build networks.

Together with the principles of the AIESEC approach, this platform is how we give young people the desire and capacity to have a positive impact on society – that is the AIESEC Difference

The AIESEC platform allows individuals to craft their own experience through the available opportunities. The result is typically a 1-5 year experience that produces individuals with the following skills and experiences: Leadership Experience

Through the management of over 700 offices at the local, national, and international level, AIESEC members have the opportunity to lead teams in different areas, do planning, take decisions, speak in public, and turn their ideas into action. AIESEC members are oriented to enter situations with the intention to make things happen. Multi-Functional Skills

AIESEC members get practical experience in all facets of running an organization, including sales and marketing, customer servicing, recruitment, evaluation, budgeting, planning, project management, presentation skills, and more. Practical experience in such broad range of areas is unique for university students. Effectiveness

The way we run a global organization with such an impressive scale of programs and almost 100% turnover is through in incredible commitment from our members. AIESEC members invest between 15-30 hours a week in the organization while also managing university, part-time jobs, family and friends. They learn how to manage their time, set priorities and multitask. Global and Diversity

Through the management of our exchange program and interaction on our global online platforms, the average AIESEC member is working and communicating every day with people from all over the world. Nearly all AIESEC members speak more than one language and have an international experience. AIESEC members learn how to work effectively in diverse environments and see things from a global perspective. Self-Awareness

With a focus on reflection, AIESEC provides space and support for individuals to do goal setting, personal awareness exercises and personal vision development. Pushed by an inspiring environment, AIESEC members develop a strong sense of who they are and the role they would like to play in the future. This is the AIESEC Difference – what gives people with AIESEC experience an edge over other young people and what drives them to play valuable roles within their workplaces and communities.

AIESEC Experience

The following diagram shows

the different steps in the

AIESEC Experience.

All members go through a

formal introduction to the

organization and then begin to

take on responsibility in some

area.

They have the option to take

on leadership, work abroad or

both.

The final step is heading for

the future – to take the skills,

inspiration and networks from

AIESEC to have a positive

impact in society.

This flow and the opportunities

within it are reinforced by five

key principles that are

reflected in all parts of the

process:

- Take an active role in your

learning & the learning of others

- Constantly challenge your

worldview

- Increase, both your practical &

theoretical knowledge

- Create a network of contacts

- Developing self-awareness &

personal vision.

Stijn Cornelis Local Committee President

When you say devotion, you say Stijn Cornelis. When you say

working hard, you say Stijn Cornelis. When you say

determination, you say Stijn Cornelis. These are just a few of

the qualities our Local Committee President demonstrated this

year. With his presence at the AIESEC Office and all AIESEC

activities he ensured all members that he would be there for

them, and that they would be supported throughout their whole

journey in AIESEC. Thank you Stijn, for always being there for

your team and your committee!

Written by: Lissa Meyvis

After a few years in AIESEC UA he finally started his term as Local

Committee President on the 1st of April 2010, and this was clearly not a

joke! Supporting his Executive Board to make sure every track and its

members could work in its best possible AIESEC way, he managed to lead

and more... No matter how much work he had, how busy his schedule

was, he was always welcoming everyone in the office while tracking and

guiding every group. Another successful year has gone by, and this would

not have been the case without him. Therefore, on behalf of AIESEC UA,

we would like to thank you for this amazing year you have given us!

Written by: Chun Hei Chan

In the past two years Stijn and AIESEC nearly became a synonym. He

worked day and night as LCP to make Antwerp the amazing LC it is

today! Thank you Stijn in the name of all the members for your

fantastic commitment to AIESEC UA!

Jolien Van Loy VP Outgoing Exchange

This year could not have been a success for AIESEC without her. ‗Match Match

Match‘ is her slogan and under her lead, the OGX team did match! Always

giving her best for her beloved Exchange Participants, solving every problem

and giving a smile to everyone who crosses her path. Her open and warm

personality makes her the best friend (and leader off course!) one can ask for.

She is going for an AIESEC experience abroad in the near future, but one thing

is certain: she won‘t be forgotten easily! Thanks for the wonderful AIESEC year!

And… Match Match Match!

Written by: Michiel Vervoort

Jolien is a fabulous person and an amazing friend. In many ways she

has been an inspiration and motivation to me. Her constant optimism,

cheerfulness and the faith she puts in other people, are just a few

things that make her into that special person I will always remember. I

truly hope that we will be able to maintain the friendship that we share

and that we will continue to experience some great moments together.

Thanks for all the amazing memories! Love you lots!!

Written by: Annick Creytens

It was crystal clear from the start; it would be a tremendous year.

What a hell of a team that works together for every exchange, with

a big smile every day again. Innovative to boost promotion, driven to

convince people, passionate to match exchange participants, team

work to realize OPS! This team was a match made in heaven!

Thanks guys!

Organising Outgoing Preparation Seminar (OPS) has been a

bomb of an experience. It is amazing to see what a couple of

people gathered in an OC can realize. We know this seminar is

fabulous. But it is all in the team work ;-)

Romy Van Bogaert VP External Relations

Romy, our own VP ER,

We want to tell you how fantastic you are.

You‘ve worked so hard this year

You were always driving in fifth gear.

ER wouldn‘t be the same without you.

You always follow through and have a great point of view.

Therefore, we would like to thank you for what you‘ve done.

You are our number one!

Written by: Laurens Van Bever

This year, I had an amazing AIESEC experience, and for that, I

would love to thank a lot of people, but especially Romy. She's

the prototype of "the blonde with brains" : Working very hard and

always being helpful but never being too tired to wear a happy smile

on her face. I learned a lot from her, she did a really great job. She

was nice to work with and also as a person, she‘s a real

sweety! Thanks Romy!

Written by: Silke Loosen

This has been an amazing year for the ER department in AIESEC UA. All

together we managed to combine cold calling and warm calling,

contacting learning partners, achieving several media appearances and

keeping in contact with our international trainees through several events.

A special thank you should go to our middle managers for this year:

Laura De Cleen, Silke Loosen, Skander Bennis, Yne Machiels and

Hanne Coolkens. They did a truly amazing job in managing their teams,

making my work as VP so much more pleasant!

Lissa Meyvis VP External Relations

A girl who is always happy, kind, beautiful, enthusiastic,

persuasive, determined and an amazing friend isn‘t easy to find.

But Lissa has it all. She is an outstanding VP ER, a great team

leader and above all, the best friend someone could ask for. So

Lissa, thank you for enlightening my life with your great personality

(and voice) and your support.

Written by: Hanne Coolkens

Lissa is a kind and charming woman with a lot of enthusiasm.

She is a real enthusiast during congresses, where she is all

dressed up and partying :) She also tries to carry, the best she

can, her enormous laptop everywhere so she can check her

mails and the progress of the ER-team.

Go girl, you're one of the best!

Written by: Laura Decleen

I would like to thank some people who made this year so wonderful. It has

been a pleasure for me to take the responsibility of the exchange team and

the ICX team throughout the year, and track their progress and

accomplishments. In the exchange team we were able to call a lot of

companies and book several company visits, for which I am super proud!

Thank you Laura and Skander, for taking charge of the exchange team and

making sure everything went smoothly. Hanne made sure that the trainees

arriving throughout the year were well taken care of, and the whole

exchange team worked hard to organize a successful DiamAnt Day for our

members and trainees to enjoy. Thank you team, for all your hard work and

enthusiasm!

Enriching, fun and lots of work. MM is the perfect position to start your AIESEC

Experience! You are the middle (wo)man and connect the members and the EB. You

get to know the AIESEC Experience, its meaning, its reach, its impact on personal

development, and all this in your first year! MM is in my opinion a must for everyone

who wants to be an active AIESEC member. Oh and by the way, ER is obviously the

best team!

Middle Manager External Relations

This year I really got to know AIESEC better, especially because of my middle

management position. I loved working in a happy environment, where I could take

some responsibility and set some goals, where I was always helped if necessary but

where having fun was one of the keywords too. I learned a lot and it was a very useful

experience which I will always remember! Thanks for the opportunities you have given

With the Media Team, we wanted to get AIESEC known outside the university.

Why? Because AIESEC is not only about us students, but about the whole

society around us! With several appearances in newsletters, mainly concerning

our Job day/Job Fair, we succeeded in that goal. Thanks to the Media Team

for your enthusiasm!

OCP DiamAnt Day

This year I again did not hesitate to apply for OCP, this time for Diamond Day. A logical

step after my exchange to mainland China I had before. With Diamond day I had the

opportunity to work with Antwerp's Trainees and Exchange Participants and to give them

the welcoming experience I got when I was abroad. While last year‘s task was to work with

a very narrow subject and audience, this year‘s group couldn't be more diverse with all

its different stakeholders and cultural values!

Written by: Dennis Clijsters

The DiamAnt Day is an event organized every year together by AIESEC UA and

trainees of Antwerp. It is aimed at getting to know each other better, networking

and socializing, building stronger relationship between the trainees and the UA LC,

as well as discovering the amazing city of Antwerp and its hidden beauties. This

year's event was truly a success: after having lunch in the sun at a picturesque

square next to Carolus Borromeuskerk, we headed for the GPS game around the

city streets and had loads of fun while playing thieves and policemen. The day

ended with an international dinner and a huge Hawaii party with two birthdays

incorporated. Delicious dishes, different drinks, interesting people, talking, dancing

and relaxed atmosphere - what a perfect ending to a perfect sunny and active day!

Incoming Exchange Trainees

Trainee: Iulian Boia

Starting from December 1st 2010 I have been working for Alcatel-Lucent in Antwerp as

Pricing Strategy Analyst in EMEA Commercial Strategy. I work in a team of 5 people, a

group of people with very diverse nationalities and past experiences. My goals for the

internship are to consolidate my knowledge and build new skills in marketing strategies

and financial management, travel through Europe, learn French and finalize my plans

for the next years. If you would ask for my opinion: an AIESEC internship is a great

way to switch from University studies to developing a professional career because you

can experiment and see what suits you best. You feel that all doors are wide open to

future choices and you can enjoy everyday life, making new friends and getting new

ideas! It‘s an opportunity you should not miss if you get the chance!

Trainee: Burcu Yapar

This is Burcu from Turkey and I am here for AIESEC exchange, doing an internship in

ABN Amro Bank for a year. My AIESEC experience started in 2006 as a member in

AIESEC Istanbul and continued for three years. I had many different functions in

AIESEC. After taking leadership opportunities within the organization, it was time to go

for the most amazing part of AIESEC life: the internship! First I did an internship in

India for three months, then I had the great opportunity with AIESEC UA in Belgium. I

have been learning a lot thanks to this internship, growing and challenging myself and

this is going to be a bright reference for my future career. Thank you AIESEC UA for

your hard work and commitment, hope you keep the good spirit up!

Trainee: Siying Du

Hey, my name is Siying and I am a trainee at Alcatel Lucent in Belgium. My

task at Alcatel- Lucent is challenging: to create a communication system to

meet the strategic business requirements… It is a great responsibility and what

is more, my exchange experience here in Europe gives me a deeper insight of

Western culture as well as other perspectives to review the culture that I am

from. I keep learning from my work and my life experience—it is so cool to live

with people from different continents, from whom I can always learn more about

different countries and their cultures! Of course, the process of learning is full of

ups and downs, happiness and sadness, but in the end, I just feel that it

REALLY values a lot for me—what a nice way to get to know more about the

world as well as about myself!!

Chun Hei Chan VP Project Management

I met Chun when I just joined AIESEC UA, as he was my LCVP Projects.

He made me feel at home at AIESEC right away and motivated me to be

more active within the LC. After having worked more closely with him at

BeLDS I can definitely say that he does an amazing job as VP Projects. He

coached us very well along the way and kept us all motivated to give the

very best of ourselves. Besides that, he's also just a great guy. Always

there to give people a helping hand, and a lot of fun to be around. Chun,

I'm very happy I met you and I consider you a dear friend.

Written by: Colette Ermers

Starting my term in the beginning I did not know what my team

members would be able to achieve throughout the past year. Although

my team seemed to be a small group, we managed to set up projects

where quality is important. Without each and every one of you it would

not have been possible! Even those who joined an Organizing

Committee, either as a member or as a leader and whether you were

from my team, I will not forget your contribution and I thank you for that.

As I have said before, I am honored to have been your Vice President

Project Management 2010-2011!

Written by: Chun Hei Chan

―Thinking about what to write about Chun, I realize that there

couldn‘t be any better VP Projects than him. Being OCP of

BeLDS, I knew that Chun was always there for me. He always

asked me how I was and gave me tons of tips to make BeLDS

an amazing conference! Besides that, Chun is a very nice

person, very easygoing and at times very funny! This year I

got to know a lot of people, and he is one of the people I can

consider a good friend!

OCP Job Day

10 companies, 3 classrooms & 200 interested students; the success formula of AIESEC‘s yearly Job Day. Present

companies introduced students to their activities and available job opportunities. Both parties could get to know

each other in a more personal way afterwards, during the reception. Thanks to a great team, enthusiastic company

representatives and a lot of helping hands the Job Day turned out to be a great success once again. We received

positive feedback from both companies and students and even the press attended this event, writing 2 articles on

OCP NTS

Applying for OCP of NTS 2011 was one of the greatest ideas I have had this year.

Fully supported by the whole EB and with an incredibly motivated OC I had the best

time organizing a national AIESEC conference. I learned a lot about organizing an

event, making promotion, managing a team, taking responsibility, and most

importantly: I had so much fun doing it! It is really amazing! AIESEC offers students

like you and me the opportunity to take on leadership experiences like the ones I

have lived so far. Go AIESEC!

Written by: Tom Van Gaal

OCP BeLDS

Being responsible for a conference like BeLDS, I had to constantly grow as a person

and as a leader. I had to be a leader and a team player at the same time, had to be

strict and flexible at the same time and I had to ignore my body‘s tendency to sleep.

Do I regret taking up this leadership position? Not at all! I learned a lot during this

experience: about myself (What are my limits? Am I motivated to face hard

challenges?), about my leadership capabilities (Am I able to motivate a group of

people? Do people see me as a leader?) and about the organizational aspect of a

conference! I am so glad that this challenge made me who I am now, and I feel that I

am ready for the next step in life!

loved all the enthusiasm and effort you all put in AIESEC.

everyone in AIESEC. Above all Katrien is one of the greatest friends

you could imagine. A party animal, a good listener and someone you

I love to work with Peter. He‘s always enthusiastic and really motivates his

track. Yes you have to ask everything like 5 times but that doesn‘t make him

less congenial. He knows his way with money and likes to spend it . If you

have a financial problem in an OC, just contact him. You can say he‘s a

savvy and inspiring person ;).

Written by: Elke Heijkers

I met Peter for the first time when I joined AIESEC at the beginning of this

academic year. At Induction Day, he quickly convinced me to join his

Finance-team as he was really enthusiastic about the opportunities within

AIESEC‘s Finance Track. During the rest of the year, I have learned that he

is a very social guy and a real (team)player. As my VP Finance, he helped

me a lot with the planning and organization of our Finance Event. Thanks to

his numerous experiences within AIESEC, he was able to answer a lot of my

questions and guide me and my OC towards a successful afternoon. Peter,

you will be missed!!!!

OCP Finance Event

As OCP Finance Event 2011, I have learned to organize a small

event from beginning to end. I‘ve deliberately chosen to start with

the organisation of a small event because it gave me the

opportunity to learn everything step by step. With the help of my

OC, I was able to arrange some interesting lectures and develop

my communication and leadership skills. I‘m really grateful that

AIESEC UA has given me this opportunity because I‘m sure this

experience will help me to do even better in the future.

Last conference of this Wonderful AIESEC year and yet again an amazing experience! We learned a lot about

AIESEC in Belgium, we shared ideas and got to know the current and future leaders of AIESEC in Belgium better.

We came back with all new ideas and huge motivation, ready to plan and kick off the next year!

260 Delegates from 22 countries, great workshops, a

hotel somewhere near Nottingham, UK, great parties...

This is the recipe for a fantastic international

conference! This amazing experience really taught us a

lot about leadership and I encourage you all to

subscribe, should you get the opportunity to go on an

international conference.

NTMS

NTMS was really a great conference! The N stands for

National and there were absolutely a lot of unknown people

that we could met. The T is for Training, there were a lot of

workshops that improved our soft skills. The M stands for

Motivation, it surely motivated everyone to be a part of

AIESEC. Last but not least the S for Seminar, it was a fantastic

conference with nice parties and a lot of activities to improve

every part of yourself!

Kick Off

Kick Off was a brilliant conference enabling EBs from

different LCs to get to know each other. It was an

opportunities so set goals, inside our own LC and for

AIESEC in Belgium united.

And there is more…

Our LC Coach

AIESEC UA is the strongest local chapter in the Belgian network. I often hear from

companies about the high quality of their partnerships with them, which definitely

makes me feel very proud.

AIESEC UA is showing remarkable results, energy, and commitment to the

organization, always being open for new ideas and growth. They have introduced and

organized National Training Seminar with the new concept of agenda, focused on soft

skills trainings from external representatives. They have started social projects on

schools and summer camps. They are very active on the campus with events for

students. They are passionately taking care of incoming and outgoing trainees

providing the highest amount of life-changing experiences for Belgian and

international students in the country.

I am very confident that AIESEC UA will continue to surprise us with new

achievements and ideas, and wish them success in making this breakthrough !

Written by: Elena Sokolova, MCP AIESEC in Belgium ’10-‘11

To keep the motivation high in our LC in Antwerp, we organized many different activities during the year. For our

members, to get to know each other on a different, and more relax way than inside the tracks, and with our trainees,

to involve them with our members! Some of the activities were really new and challenging! Think about ice skating,

with trainees that have never ever been on those slippery grounds! Another one was the use of your singing talent, to

be as a ―real‖ karaoke rock star! And do not forget our bowling contest, where we were all kings and queens of the

pins! Furthermore we also did some sport activities such as a carting event, tennis game and a floor ball competition.

Of course it does not always have to be so exciting. Just a beer in a bar makes us happy as well!

The combination of all the hard work in our LC and these fun activities made this year a successful year! As all of you

know, a good balance between work and leisure is necessary. Enjoying the nice atmosphere in our LC is one of our

important values and a good motivator as well. Thank you to everyone who came to this events and brought the

atmosphere in AIESEC UA to a top level.

And there is more…

AIESEC 2015

AIESEC 2015 are guidelines for the upcoming years which will

empower us to redefine which direction we are heading for and how

we are creating our impact on our colleagues and society in general.

Offering experimental learning and cross-cultural understanding are

already for many years the core business of AIESEC. The way how

we approach our colleagues and how we are going to make this

accessible to many more young people will for sure be a large challenge. I am convinced that AIESEC UA will take up

his responsibility the upcoming years and give his members the opportunity for further development in every way

possible. Those members will be the future leaders of AIESEC and in our society, they will be our successors and

create the upcoming vision of 2020, 2025,.. . I hope many more visions may be brought on the table to renew our way

of operating and transfer our values and way of living for many more generations.

AIESEC UA Club Song

After many years, during the induction days for new students of the

university of Antwerp, the EB sat all together and agreed that it was more

than time to translate our values and were we stand for in a club song.

After brainstorming with some drinks, hoping for some inspiration to come,

our main ideas found their way to some interesting lyrics and a while later

our club song was born… Through this song we hope to inspire, in an

informal way, many more students to join our organization and find out how

our network can influence their lives professionally; without forgetting to

enjoy every moment the fullest!

AIESEC Alumni Opportunities

AIESEC Alumni are located globally, working in various professions and industries

and playing different roles in their communities. AIESEC recognizes the fact that its

Alumni are the biggest measure of its success. AIESEC Alumni are the agents of

positive change which we aim to create.

Networking

AIESEC UA offers a variety of events where Alumni can network with each other and with current members in order

to stay connected. The annual Gala night has since long been an annual get together for Alumni. The Champagne

cantus is aimed more at recent Alumni and has been a tradition for years as well. In addition, we organize our annual

Stakeholders Event. This event aims to connect Alumni with each other, with partner organizations and current

members. We also organized an Alumni Event, where we had brunch together with alumni and the EB.

Selection Procedures and Incoming Exchange

Both for the exchange program and the selection of the national and local boards, AIESEC selects candidates.

Alumni involvement in these procedures can increase professionalism of these selections as their external experience

can be an added value.

Alumni are also active in a variety of sectors and companies and since AIESEC is always looking for more companies

to provide exchange opportunities to our members, they can provide the first contact of their organization with

AIESEC or promote the relationship.

Conferences

Our national and international conferences do not only have workshops provided by members. External expertise

brings a much appreciated added value to its contents. That is why AIESEC always seeks to involve partner

organizations. An alumnus can add even more value by bringing both professional insight and an inside knowledge of

the organization. Therefore Alumni involvement as a trainer in our conferences can lead to very productive results.

Board of Advisors

The Board of Advisors has since long been an external body providing continuity to our local committee. Its strategic

insights have always been an added value in planning the direction of AIESEC UA. The Board has been split up in a

strategic part, where representatives of all different relations are connected, and a financial part, where AIESEC UA

alumni get insights in the financial health of our Local Committee. Both boards are lead by a yearly appointed Chair.

Coaching and mentoring members

AIESEC‘ers are people who want to learn from their mistakes and experience what it is like to start their own projects.

Alumni can assist our members in their development through coaching and mentoring and make their experience

more valuable. Since we started this year with a mentoring program we want to involve our Alumni next year more

concrete in this. The more mentors we can find, the more experience can be passed through to our members.

Conclusion

Your involvement in AIESEC does not have to stop when you leave the organization. Through the alumni network,

there are lots of opportunities to stay involved. At the same time it is very rewarding to see new people having those

experiences you enjoyed before and assist them in their development.

AIESEC Partners

VOKA

STATOIL Coordination Center

ALCATEL-LUCENT

AIESEC UA and The Antwerp-Waasland Chamber of Commerce and Industry have

been working together for several years now, but this year the level of cooperation and

communication was very high. For example, AIESEC UA was able to attend various

networking events and trainings supported by The Antwerp-Waasland Chamber of

Commerce and Industry. On the other hand, The Antwerp-Waasland Chamber of

Commerce and Industry has been able to give some workshops about

entrepreneurship to us AIESEC‘ers, which has expanded our knowledge about the

subject and boosted our sense of initiative.

During the past several years, AIESEC UA and Statoil Coordination Center have been

working closely together in terms of internships in the Indirect Tax and Internal Bank

department. Thanks to close cooperation and efficient communication, together we

were able to give 6 AIESEC interns from different parts of Europe the chance to

experience working life in Belgium and in Statoil Coordination Center. We truly value

this partnership and we hope that this collaboration will remain strong for several more

years.

Alcatel-Lucent, being a global company, highly valuates the knowledge and expertise

of a wide range of students coming from different backgrounds and being able to work

in a multicultural environment.

Since 2007 we, Alcatel-Lucent Bell in Antwerp, cooperate with AIESEC in order to

introduce international students to work as an intern within our company. We started

with 2 interns in the first year and apparently this formula proves to be successful to

our business leaders because since then we have already employed approx. 30

students within several departments, going from engineering and human resources to

marketing and customer support related functions. Two of them, who applied for a

vacancy within our company, have been hired in the meantime.

We certainly expect to continue our good relationship and cooperation with AIESEC

and their representatives in the future.

AIESEC Partner Deloitte

Jurgen Kesselaers (LTEW 1987) More than 20 years of experience Thanks to Deloitte you are holding this booklet, because they are printing it for us. High time for an interview with the responsible UA partner at Deloitte. And it seems that he is an AIESEC alumnus! His story… Career After my studies of Applied Economics at the University of Antwerp, I started a career at Deloitte. Having finished my army service and in the line of my studies, it was commonsense to start at the formerly Deloitte Haskins & Sells (at that time one of the ―big eight‖). Soon I discovered that the learning process doesn‘t stop at graduation, but that the implementation of the learned knowledge in the practice of auditing would be a lifelong ―learning on the job‖. Within Deloitte, we attach importance to teamwork, which is very important due to the size of the mandates and projects, especially towards our clients. Within such teams, the role of auditor/staff member develops as experience extends. While the first years are focused on development, ―learning on the job‖ and gaining more expertise, after a few years you get more responsibility to coach less experienced colleagues in the commercial and technical aspects of the job. In time your role towards the clients grows, who see you as a confidential counselor and as the face of Deloitte. We also offer a lot of room for innovation and we stimulate our employees at each level to come up with new solutions for questions and problems they are confronted with. ‗You are not alone, but you have to take initiative.‘ At Deloitte we work in an atmosphere of respect, trust and teamwork. At the same time we are strenuous for our employees. Those people who go for it and show their engagement are the people who grow within our organization. Deloitte Within Deloitte I am the ―LCRP‖ (Lead Campus Recruitment Partner) for the University of Antwerp. This comes down to (outside of coordinating the events, guest lectures and seminars) being responsible for recruitment at the UA for our different departments (Audit, Tax, Consulting, Accounting and Financial Advisory). In September and October of this academic year, about 300 recent graduates have started in the different offices of Deloitte Belgium. For the new financial year of 2011 Deloitte Belgium plans 500 new recruitments of whom 300 junior profiles and 200 experienced new employees. Masters and bachelors are attracted to the departments of Audit, Tax, Consulting, Accounting and Financial Advisory. Most beginners will have a diploma in Law, Economics, Tax, IT or Accountancy, but everyone who shows initiative, independence, a good cooperating attitude and the drive to offer clients the best solution is welcome at Deloitte. Deloitte offers a world of opportunities, both to beginners and to more experienced employees. As long as you can lay a decent foundation of plans, you are a master of your own career at Deloitte. Everything aims to making people stronger as ―professional‖ to let them be better service providers and to let them grow as an individual. Deloitte and AIESEC Deloitte signed a sponsoring contract with AIESEC UA, through which the company has a direct contact with the students of Economics at the University of Antwerp. This cooperation exists since a few years and both parties are very satisfied about the way we approach students and share our expertise with them. We hope to be able to develop this cooperation further and to recruit even more master students from UA through this network. Written by: Jurgen Kesselaers
