60 university students and graduates from the age,18 up to 30 who were chosen from all the registered candidates. The key factors in selection was the candidate's interest in business innovations, startups and entrepreneurship.

The aim of the Symposium-Startup Slovakia! was to empower ambitious young people to start up their own businesses. The labor situation in the past years has dramatically changed in Slovakia and universities are producing huge amount of graduates, who overload the demand at the market. Thirty percent of graduates cannot work because there is no job for them. Creating new job opportunities is very important step which would solve this crisis.

Many times it is just a simple creative idea of a young person which means a business with a huge potential. Young people are brave enough to risk and they are not determined by previous failures.

However, what they are missing is the knowledge of how to go about setting up. That is why we created the environment for young people where they could network with and learn from experienced entrepreneurs, and as well get information about the supporting systems available in the country and region which would help them transform their great ideas into real businesses.

The best 3 ideas that came out of the day were awarded mentorship sessions from the Czech tech accelerator StartupYard and Neulogy in Slovakia.

About the 3 best startups of the Symposium-Startup Slovakia!:

Overall winner:

Goldenfish Lightning Goldenfish Lightning is an intelligent lighting system, which adjusts to your lifestyle. The trick here is that you don't have to rewire your house to do it. All you have to do is change out your light switch and it just works. Well, that's at least what they promise their prototype will do once it's ready. The two leaders of this group (Tomáš Baran and Karol Zrelák) have already been working on the idea for some time and came to Symposium to refine it. They already have an investor lined up, if they can produce a prototype.

TranslateKarateTranslateKarate is an online localization tool for apps, which aims to have a very simple user interface. They are currently in their alpha testing phase and one of their main features is integration with social media.

School-EAdorably named after the Disney character Wall-E, this web-based school (course) management system with online payments won the event. The team proved that there is a real need for voluntary schools with 50-400 students to use an online payment and registration system for their courses. Apparently, many of the schools don't even know that some people (mostly kids) attending their courses aren't event paying.
