VialsVials, Caps and Septa


Vials, Caps and Septa All Agilent Vials use USP Type 1 Borosilicate GlassAgilent Technologiesvialsare made onlyfrom Type 1 Borosilicate glassand are tightlycon-trolled for dimensional accuracyusing the Optoelectronic system. The vialscome in crimp top,screw top or snap top closure and are also available in deactivated or non-deactivated versions.

Before doing an injection, you should think about:

Type of closure: Crimp top vials, screw top vialsor snap top vials While crimp topsare the least expensive, theyneed a crimping tool and the capsare not

reusable. Screw top vialsare the perfect medium for reusabilityand low evaporation.

Type of glass or polypropylene: Clear or amber glass, polypropylene vials

If your sample islight sensitive, you maychoose amber glass. For most applications, standard clear glassissufficient. For samplesthat maystick to glassor chemically react with glass, use polypropylene.

Deactivated/ non-deactivated: For samplesthat interact with the highlypolar silanol groupson the glasssurface, a

deactivation procedure isperformed on the vials.

Need for inserts: Flat or conical with polyspring If you onlyhave a small amount of sample, you maychoose to place a limited volume insert

inside the vial or choose micro sampling vialslike M icro-V or High Recovery. Polyspring at the bottom of the conical insert keepsit aligned for proper injection.

Caps and Septa

Vial cap septa are a critical link to optimal analysis. Each septum isspecified to complementthe overall system and enhance chemical performance. Aswith all Agilent components,rigoroustesting and product specificationsare done before offering the product.

Agilent vial cap septa are speciallyformulated and constructed to provide optimum systemperformance with minimal coring and superior chemical inertness. The softnessor hardness(durometer) ismatched to the instrument and designed to work well with syringesand samples.

The size of the septum iscritical to proper sealing. All Agilent septa are specificallysized forproper sealing. Our thinnest septa have a special detail built into the cap to minimize septacoring and eliminate the need to replace capswith extended usage.
