Virginia’s On-site Consultation Program offers free and confidential occupational safety and health assistance to small and medium-sized businesses across the state, with priority given to high-hazard worksites. We assist small employers looking

to create or improve their injury and illness prevention

programs.

The Virginia Labor and Employment Law Division

administers and enforces state laws governing payment of wages, minimum wage, child labor, the right to work and certain other provisions related to the workplace. Working whenever possible

through mediation, we seek to help businesses

and employees resolve disputes and return to work.

The Virginia Occupational Safety and Health (VOSH) Program

is the Commonwealth’s counterpart to the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). The VOSH Program is responsible for enforcing occupational safety and health laws and regulations in the private and public

sectors and also provides free consultative, outreach and

training services.

Virginia VPP recognizes employers that have

implemented exceptional safety and health management systems that meet a rigorous set of occupational safety and health criteria. VPP fosters a cooperative relationship between the VOSH program, the employer, and

employees to assure the highest level of safety

and health protections for workers.

Virginia Registered Apprenticeship is a training

system that produces highly skilled workers to meet the demands of employers competing in a global economy, through a combination of on-the-job training and theoretical classroom instruction.

It is a “win-win” approach to workforce

development throughout the Commonwealth.

Safety & Health Achievement Recognition Program

The Virginia Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) is a voluntary recognition program primarily focused on small employers (businesses of 250 or fewer employees) that work closely with

their employees to develop and implement

exemplary injury and illness prevention programs.

This inspection and certification program plays a critical role

in promoting safety for all Virginians. Industrial

boilers and pressure vessels are used in many large and small establishments, including hospitals, small offices, and large factories. We oversee regular

inspections of boilers and pressure vessels

under the Boiler and Pressure Vessel Safety Act.
