1. INTRODUCTION
This document describes the major components of the PSA Oxygen
Generation System and its associated components. The design,
materials and workmanship incorporated in the construction of Oxygen
Generators make them capable of giving long, trouble-free service.
PSA Oxygen generators produce gaseous oxygen from compressing
atmospheric air on site and offer a cost-effective, reliable and safe
alternative to traditional oxygen gas supplies such as cylinders or
cryogenic liquid. The design is made for round the clock 24/7
operation. Each generator is equipped with automatic start & stop

function, enabling the generator to start and stop automatically
according to the consumption.
ADVANTAGES: No Raw Material: There is no Raw Material required to
produce high purity grade Oxygen, as plant uses air from atmosphere
to separate oxygen from processed air.
Quality & Durability: Each Generator is Analyzed & Tested over Latest
CFD Software for dynamic loading in order to ensure Quality product
with SMART Productivity of Oxygen Gas.
Oxygen on demand: Production of oxygen at the specified flow and
purity for a short time of demand by simple push button.
Energy efficiency: The PSA process is characterized by low specific
energy consumption. Easy partial load operation PSA Generators are
fully automatically adjusted to the actual product flow requirements
and operate in an energy-saving partial load mode.
Skid Mounted: Generator is supplied Pre-piped over a platform in
order to cuts down installation time, plant is supplied in ready to use
and plug and play condition.
High availability: PSA Generator provide supreme availability by using
reliable components such as Screw Compressors proprietary switching
valves.
Fully automatic operation: The PLC based control system with its
sophisticated software controls purity and flow by adjusting the cycle
time automatically.
Oxygen generator being supplied is based on a patented
implementation of the PSA (Pressure Swinging Adsorption) technology,

a static separation of air gases thanks to a specific molecular sieve
that adsorbs Nitrogen under pressure.
The Oxygen generator is mainly composed of 2 separation vessels
filled with molecular sieve (zeolites) absorbers. As compressed air
pressurizes one vessel, the Nitrogen is progressively retained by
the molecular sieve and the Oxygen goes straight to the outlet
of the generator. When the vessel is approaching Nitrogen
saturation, the process switches to the second vessel and the
adsorbed Nitrogen in the first vessel is released into the atmosphere.
The cycle is then repeated under computerized control in order to
produce high purity Oxygen continuously.
2. SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
Air contains 21% Oxygen, 78% Nitrogen, 0.9% Argon and 0.1% other
trace gases. Oxygen generation systems separate this oxygen from
Compressed Air through a unique process called Pressure Swing
Adsorption. (PSA).

The Pressure Swing Adsorption process for the generation of
enriched oxygen gas from ambient air utilises the ability of a synthetic
Zeolite Molecular Sieve to absorb mainly nitrogen.
While nitrogen concentrates in the pore system of the Zeolite, Oxygen
Gas is allowed to pass through as a product.
Oxygen generation plants use two Pressure Vessels filled with Zeolite
Molecular sieve as adsorbers.
As Compressed Air passes up through one of the Adsorbers, the
molecular sieve selectively adsorbs the Nitrogen. This then allows the
remaining Oxygen to pass on up through the adsorber and exit as a
product gas.
When the adsorber becomes saturated with Nitrogen the inlet airflow
is switched to the second off line adsorber. The first adsorber is
regenerated by desorbing nitrogen through De-Pressurisation and
purging it with some of the product oxygen. The cycle is then repeated
and the pressure is continually swinging between a higher level at
adsorption (Production), and a lower level at desorption
(Regeneration).
In Pressure Swing Absorbtion technology Our engineers have
dedicated special attention to the adsorber vessel design in order to
avoid fluidization of the psa molecular sieve bed during the entire
adsorption and desorption process and under any possible working
condition of the PSA Generators.

PSA Generators are designed for Dynamic Load as PSA generators
operate in cycles and each vessel pressure and depressurize in less than
3 minutes. This Pressure fluctuation creates tension that must be
considered during Designing of Pressure Vessels, Our pressure vessels
are designed for dynamic pressure loading and are designed to last
minimum 2 million pressure cycles
Extensive CFD simulations and running tests have been performed in
order to remain distant from the physical fluidization limit for each
adsorber vessel size and under all process circumstances.
This break-through made it finally possible to develop a compact,
highly efficient and truly flexible PSA generator which can produce 90%
± 2% Oxygen Generator.

PSA Oxygen generator’s start-up
time is only 5-minutes. Therefore,
depending on Oxygen demand,
Generator can be switched ON &
switched OFF very conveniently.
Cryogenic plant startup time is
around 12 to 16 hours for start-
up. Therefore, Cryogenic Oxygen
plant cannot be switched ON &
switched OFF very frequently.

Cryogenic plant requires a very
large size building & bigger
footprint size.
PSA Oxygen gas can be stored in
a standard Economical tank.
Cryogenic Oxygen is to be stored
in a vacuum insulated double
walled Tank. Cost of this Storage
tank is on higher side.
3. WIRING
All wiring will conform to Australia Standards wiring rules.
All wiring (excluding instrument pairs) will be minimum .75mm2
All wiring on the package will be LSOH.
All Panel Control 24 Voltage wiring will be 0.75mm2 single core
flex
All wiring external to the panel will be 1.5mm2 stranded copper
No more than two wires per terminal
All cables between Junction boxes will have cable numbers both

4. RELIABILITY
PSA oxygen generation systems are extremely reliable. Systems are
designed to run 24 hours days 365 days a year with very little operator
Intervention. They are lightweight compared to other technology, are
very rugged and durable.

Advantages of our design is the type of Valves we use in our systems.
Solenoid Valves: We do not use standard Solenoid type valves which
have a short service life due to the high cycle nature of a PSA Solenoid
valves have a thin internal diaphragm which will eventually crack due
to the operation of the valve.

Oxair - use a true Air Pilot Operated Actuated Process Valve.
The Valve has a heavy plunger actuator inside the valve which will give
many, many years of trouble free operation. (See Below)
Small - Process Valves: We have systems that are well over 8 year’s old
still operating with the same valves.
Check Valves: Because of the type of valve we use on our systems it
has eliminated the need to use check valves on our systems. The valves
are 100% Bubble tight shut off in either direction. Check Valves do not
have a long service life and will eventually start to by-pass causing a
loss of purity.
PSA Piping System: Oxair does not use any flexible piping on our PSA
systems. Oxair PSA Piping systems are 100% leak free. All piping is
made from the unique Stainless Steel Press-fit design. Not only does it
not leak it is clean and looks good.
