Mother’s DayAs 2014 Mother’s Day Celebration came to pass, we are still loved up and will continue to say ‘Happy Mother’s Day’ to all mothers all over the earth.

The importance of motherhood cannot be overemphasized as they are the pillar of the family and driver of societal progress. Abraham Lincoln even eulogised his mother saying “I remember my mother’s prayers and they have always followed me. They have clung to me all my life.”

At the heart of an exemplary motherhood comes in the sweet African mother who is of inestimable value to us. From time immemorial, African mothers have always carved a niche for themselves. Even in the thick of global wrongs against women, an African proverb has this to say, “The madman, who throws a stone into a crowded market, forgets that his own mother could be hit by his madness.

In Dublin, the Catholic Women Organisation (CWO) of the African Catholic Chaplaincy showed what it takes to be super mothers as they entertained and fed guests after a church service with the Primate of Ireland and Dublin Metropolitan See, Archbishop Diarmuid Martin. See our online TV networks for the coverage.

The story of Alan Shatter TD, Irish Minister of Justice and Defence could be likened to the parable of the Cat with nine lives. A man known to kick-start his day well before 6am and is known for his work ethic, Alan Shatter TD remain a key man in the life of this government saddled to clean up the mess left behind by its predecessor. In the three years life of this current Irish government, Alan Shatter has introduced 24 out of 159 Bills the coalition brought before the parliament (Dáil) yet it is easier to call for his head than remember the last government that wrecked the nation economically. Apart from legislative Bills, the Minister of Justice and Defence is currently bringing forward remarkable reforms to the legal sector, and has with success, passed two referendums – establishing a Court of Appeal and another to cut judges’ pay. Like in the past, opposition parliamentarians or TDs (Teachta Dála is a member of Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Oireachtas which is the Irish Parliament. It is the equivalent of terms such as “Member of Parliament” (MP) or “Member of Congress” used in other states. The

official translation of the term is “Deputy to the Dáil”) have always engineered a vote of no confidence or tried to discredit Mr. Shatter.

The minister has been at the centre of the two domestic stories in the last fortnight – the GSOC bugging controversy and now fresh revelations from a garda whisteblower. Far from that, the opposition have never shied away from attacking this government through its star player who runs two top ministries, Justice and Defence. During a bitter debate on Wednesday evening during which the opposition sought to remove the minister through a ‘vote of no confidence’, Fine Gael and Labour TDs rallied behind him and carpeted Fianna Fáil for trying to bring down Mr Shatter and destabilize the government. Finance Minister Michael Noonan fired a salvo accusing Fianna Fáil of a “vicious assault on a star player on the opposing team”. Continuing, Mr. Noonan argued, “Like a defeated team, it has decided to play the man and not the ball.” Regina Doherty, Fine Gael TD for Meath East, said the motion of no confidence

represented “the most cynical move by Fianna Fáil” since 2011. She further dusted the opposition party by saying, “You wonder why you are languishing at 20% in the polls,” she said. Finally, Fianna Fail’s vote of no confidence was successfully defeated by 95-51, leaving Mr. Alan Shatter to continue in his job.

On a more authoritative note, AfricaWorld can say that there is more to the reason why enormous pressure is always on the reformer to step down from this key ministry in the Fine Gael controlled government. Sources close to AfricaWorld points to his reform at the Justice department where tens of thousands of immigrants have gained Irish Citizenship and the fact that he has Jewish ancestry. A strong minority of racists have never hidden their hatred of the reformer politician, even feigning ignorance at his remarkable achievements. Prior to the debate, which took place yesterday evening, a package containing white powder, a nazi photograph and a swastika emblem was discovered at the minister’s home in Ballinteer on the South side of Baile Atha Cliath (Dublin). However, both ruling party Fine Gael and their opposition counterparts Fianna Fáil voiced against the development.

Secretary of State John Kerry, arriving in Kiev in March, offered $1 Billion in loan guarantees to Ukraine. In a demonstration of support for Ukraine’s fledgling government, Secretary of State John Kerry arrived here on Tuesday with an offer of $1 billion in American loan guarantees and pledges of technical assistance, a senior State Department official said revealed. The purpose of the loan guarantee is to support Ukraine’s efforts to integrate with the West and help offset the reduction of energy subsidies from Russia, which has assailed the new government’s legitimacy and occupied its Crimea Peninsula. The United States will also send technical experts to help Ukraine’s national bank and finance ministry, provide advice on how to fight corruption and train election monitors to help establish the legitimacy of Ukraine’s upcoming election, writes the New York Times. At the 2006 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation in Beijing, China announced its full support for the construction of a new conference centre for the Africa Union. The building is designed to play host to the annual conferences of the Pan-African organization. Today the new AU Conference Centre stands as a landmark of the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa and a notable monument to China-Africa Cooperation. “’The entire $200m project was funded by China as a gift to the AU, as Beijing continues to strengthen its influence in Africa. Most of the materials used were imported from China and even the furnishings were paid for by Beijing,’ AFP news agency reports. Construction began in January 2009 and involved 1,200 Chinese and Ethiopian workers. The project co-coordinator, Fantalum Michael, said the new building signifies China’s growing friendship with Africa. ‘It’s a testimony that this relationship will continue in the future,’ he said.” “Trade between China and Africa has increased significantly during the past decade to $120bn in 2011. China is interested in Africa’s natural resources and in return is investing huge sums in African infrastructure. ‘Roads are being built by Chinese firms at a staggering rate,’ says the BBC’s Will Ross in Addis Ababa. ‘In Ethiopia, many jobs have been created through Chinese-funded projects. Chinese cars are being made in Ethiopian factories and China is also building a light railway across Addis Ababa. While other rich nations impose conditions before aid is given to Africa, China’s relationship with African countries is strictly a business

one,’ he says. Human rights groups have criticized China for undermining efforts by western countries to link aid to improvements in governance. However African leaders have welcomed the Chinese approach and have embraced investment from Beijing. “ In a speech reminiscence of an order from an angry super power, before she was booted out of office, former US secretary of States, Hilary Clinton warned that African countries should consider partnerships with more responsible countries as against countries that exploit resources, in an unmistakable reference to China. The warning was against the backdrop of a promise of Chinese investment of 20 billion Dollars in Africa. The Chinese states news agency Xinhua did not waste time in her response to Hilary Clinton:”Whether Clinton was ignorant of the facts on the ground or chose to disregard them, her implication that China has been extracting Africa’s wealth for itself is utterly wide of the truth.” The Xinxua news agency stated. From the east, west to south and north Africa, Chinese investment could be well seen. Some of the best quality and some substandard. On this Stratfor writes: “While China has proposed $750 million for agriculture and general development aid and about $50 million to support small- and medium-sized business development in addition to the aforementioned projects, it has been criticized for the extractive nature of its relationship with many African countries, as well as the poor quality of some of its construction work. However, since many African countries lack the indigenous engineering capability to construct these large-scale projects or the capital to undertake them, African governments with limited resources welcome Chinese investments enthusiastically. These foreign investment projects are also a boom for Beijing, since China needs African resources to sustain its domestic economy, and the projects in Africa provide a destination for excess Chinese labor.” The following quote is some detailed report of China’s investment in some African countries:

MASSIVE INVESTMENT IN KENYA AND EAST AFRICA

The investment deals president Uhuru Kenyatta signed during his last visit to China was impressive. On his first day in China, the young president signed deals worth $5 billion. More deals

were also signed. Stratfor states that Beijing has targeted most East African countries and these include Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda for investment in key infrastructure projects to support those countries’ economic development. The signing of these agreements also highlights the integration of East Africa with the rest of the Indian and Pacific Ocean basin economy, thereby augmenting the economic potential of these emerging countries.

ANALYSIS The deals which Kenya and China signed on the 19th August include $1 billion in investment for energy-related products. It is unclear what specific projects this deal includes, but the money most likely will be invested into upgrading and rehabilitating Kenya’s only refinery in Mombasa. The refinery, built in 1963, has not been adequately maintained, and is in need of upgrades to process the harder-to-refine crude which Kenya and Uganda will be producing within the next five years. Additionally, there are three pipeline projects which the money could be destined for. One is to connect the landlocked Uganda’s oil fields to the Kenyan coast, one is to connect South Sudan to the Kenyan coast, and another is to link Kenya’s own oil fields in the northern portion of the country to the coast. The deal also calls for the rehabilitation of a railway which was originally built by the British that is supposed to connect Mombasa to Kampala in Uganda. Maintenance has been an issue, and the railway is not completely operational from theKenyan capital of Nairobi to the Ugandan border. The railway is of great importance not only to Kenya but also to neighbouring Uganda because of the freight potential that it brings for the landlocked country. A glaring omission from the deals signed thus far concerns the Lamu port. Kenya has been trying to find finance for the massive $27 billion project, which includes the port itself, a railway, a pipeline to South Sudan and a regional highway, but it has struggled to secure the necessary funding. For South Sudan, the project is very important because it would provide a second outlet for

NEWS

the country to export its oil and so avoid its complicated relationship with Sudan. China has sponsored the project with some funds, but not nearly enough to ensure that the project develops as quickly as planned. Even worse for Kenya, China signed a deal in March to expand the Tanzanian port at Bagamoyo, a project which could cost $10 billion if all of the follow-on road and the rail infrastructure gets built. That agreement could signal that China prefers Bagamoyo over Lamu.China’s East Africa investment East Africa’s infrastructure is underdeveloped and has been the one factor holdingback the region’s development, but China and others are investing the necessary money to reverse this. Beijing has been a major supporter of developing a railway into the heart of Ethiopia to help Ch inese -backed t ex t i l e manufacturers export their products. For China, these deals also assist Chinese construction companies and they provide an outlet for Chinese steel and other raw materials. Chinese companies often win the construction contracts for these Chinese-backed deals, and thus recycle most of the money back into the Chinese economy. For instance, Kenya used Chinese-backed funds and awarded the construction contract for the Lamu port project to China

Communications Construction Co. It is clear that while Kenya and other African countries would prefer that these contracts go to domestic contractors, they do not have the choice of financing the projects themselves. The Indian and Pacific Ocean basins increasingly are becoming the focal point ofw o r l d w i d e e c o n o m i c development, and East Africa is a part of this trend. Naturally this means that regional economic powers, and these include not only China but also India and Japan as well as some smaller but quickly developing countries such as Kenya and Tanzania will increase their co-dependence in the coming years because of stagnated economic activity in the developed Western world. When looking at Kenya and the rest of its region’s development in that context, infrastructure developments of all types, which include road, rail, ports, power plants and water sanitation, all become vital to supporting the region’s ability to integrate with the economic development in Asia because of the manufacturing bases of the East. African countries cannot grow without this infrastructure. Until now, East Africa has been unable to secure the financing for these projects, but as investment from China and others shows, this process is reversing and should

enable the region to continue its strong growth in the coming years. A few months ago, China state owned International Trust and Investment Corporation (CITIC) built a town in Angola christened Nova Didade de Kilamba. It has a residential development of 750 eight-story apartment buildings, a dozen schools and more than 100 retail units reports the BBC’s Louise Redvers. The $3.5 billion development covers 12,355 acres and was built to house about 500,000 people, and this is one of “several satellite cities being constructed by Chinese firms around Angola,” writes Redvers. Angolan president José Eduardo dos Santos has touted the ‘Kilamba social housing project’ as an example of his social policy, and he has brought international policymakers including Chinese vice-president Xi Jingping to the site. So who is afraid of Chinese investments in Africa? What has the West invested in Africa recently on a staggering amount?Investment statistics have shown that there are over 2000 Chinese firms doing businesses in 50 countries in Africa. In her article ‘’China in Africa: The real story, digging into the myths and realities’’, Deborah Brautigam observes

:’’The most recent white paper on China-Africa Trade and Economic Cooperation noted that between 2009 to 2012, China’s direct investments in Africa grew at an annual rate of 20.5%. This is a brisk clip, but I’m not sure I’d call it a “staggering” rate. How many Chinese companies are active in Africa? The figure on 2000 firms in 50 African countries comes from China’s Ministry of Commerce. More precise numbers that I have from MOFCOM state that 2372 investments have gone through the required approvals for Africa, as of March 2013. Some firms will have multiple projects. On the other hand, it probably doesn’t include a number of small enterprises that fly under the radar -- including all the Chinese shops -- so the true number of “firms” is undoubtedly higher’’.But before we congratulate the Chinese, we must note this negative investment findings. A flood of Chinese produce, meanwhile, has accelerated the decline in industrialization since the 1980s. Africa’s textile industry alone lost 750,000 jobs over the last decade, according to the Johannesburg-based Brenthurst Foundation. Even in the continent’s manufacturing powerhouse South Africa, some 40 percent of footwear and fabrics come from China. Expressing the concerns of many African governments,

South African President Jacob Zuma bluntly warned last year that such an unbalanced pattern of trade was “unsustainable”. “The romanticized relationship surrounding China’s investment in Africa has passed,” said Alex Vines, head of the Africa programme at the Chatham House research institute. “With the world’s youngest and fastest-growing population, the main pressure on governments in Africa is to provide jobs. Having the Chinese take those jobs doesn’t help.” Jobs, jobs, jobs, these are what Africans need. Africans want to be employed. Africans love to work. Africans love to earn their living from good works. Conclusively, From Pretoria to Abuja or from the four corners of Africa, governments have begun voicing frustration that China’s use of Africa as a source of natural resources and a market for its goods may be hindering the continent to haul its billion people out of poverty. A recent report by the U.N. Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) highlighted the risk that “the continent’s relationship with the world’s second largest economy could strangle its attempts to industrialize” states Daniel Flynn. But if The US could grant Ukraine 1 Billion Dollars, how much has the US given African countries in such situations like Ukraine?

The representation of one’s own original work, thoughts, ideas or the stealing of another’s project is a ‘wrongful appropriation’ from such an international organization (IOM). The stealing of Mr. Alpha Gassama’s iVosta project remains problematic with unclear settlement. The theft is considered as dishonesty and breach of project ethics and a serious ethical offense and such a case constitutes copyright infringement.

In a recent response letter from IOM’s Chief of Mission, Theodora Suter unequivocally dismissed the allegation that the GIVE project was not copied from a project called iVosta. Further more, Suter confirmed that from the very onset, the IOM has been very clear that the GIVE project is not about reinventing the shell, but rather complementing the long standing and tremendously valuable work being undertaken by their national volunteer agency partners across the four project participating countries which are Ireland, Austria, The Netherlands and United Kingdom.

AfricaWorld News learnt that the GIVE project for the four participating EU countries was first launched in Austria sometime in September 2013, Republic of Ireland on 17th October, 2013, The Netherlands on 19th September, 2013, and the UK sometime in october. In brief, the launching of the project was orchestrated within three months of inception in the four participating EU countries. It is now understandable that Austria was the first EU Member State that GIVE project was launched while Ireland became the last.

Afr icaWorld News can authoritatively say that there are certain discrepancies between the two versions - IOM Chief of Mission, Theordora Suter and Project Manager, Viriri Itayi’s story about the origin of GIVE Project. Their statement were complicated and also during the meeting held at the Gresham Hotel in Dublin between Gassama and Itayi, the Project Manager confirmed that GIVE project originated from Ireland while Suter claimed that the project was first initiated in Austria, The Netherland and UK. The question here to ask is that if the project was first initiated in these countries as mentioned by the IOM Chief of Mission, why was it re-launched again by IOM? IOM has never been directly involve in volunteering and integration policies since its establishment?

AfricaWorld News is evident that the IOM Dublin Project Manager Viriri Itayi knew Alpha Gassama and iVosta project/organization from the very onslaught but when asked during a telephone conversation by our correspondent, he vehemently denied knowledge of him and the project or organization. AfricaWorld News correspondent became perplexed to find out that after his brief conversation with Viriri, he immediately contacted Gassama to arrange a meeting with

him at the Gresham Hotel which was then slated to 10th January, 2014. From our recent finding, it is also very surprising to understand that the same GIVE project was also ‘co-funded’ by Dublin City Council (Ireland) having received more than enough funding from European Union, the Austrian Federal Ministry for the Interiro (Austria) and PEP - Paricipatie Emancipatie Professionals (The Netherlands). It is also understood that IOM shares some of this funding with Volunteer Ireland and Integration Centre to run the GIVE project.

It is very important to note that since the enlargement of Europe, a new style of racism has emerged in Ireland. There are all sorts of racism being orchestrated in the public sectors, charity organizations e.t.c. The most disturbing is when racism is orchestrated and supported in public sectors by some government funded organizations.

Volunteering is a big joke in Ireland. For example in some government funded organizations in Ireland, there are lots of instances where volunteers hardly get expenses spent on travel, lunch, drinks tickets, e.t.c. reimbursed. Most volunteers are forced to pay out of their pockets despite the huge funding received by organizations from the government. There is deadly combination of corruption and racial discrimination against volunteers in some non-profit or government funded organizations and if we may say, this practices tend to form part of such organization’s mission. It is also evident to say that corruption dwells in most Charity organizations while racism dwells in most volunteering sectors.

AfricaWorld News learnt that Peter Szlovak who is the current Head of Policy and Research, Integration Centre recently met with Alpha Gassama in an Indian restaurant on the popular Moore Street in Dublin 1. During their brief meeting, he’d advised Gassama that, it is about time he calm down because the said project of IOM is just about few months away for the entire project to seize while iVosta project is for life and the real project in vogue. “IOM can have any funding they want because it is a big organization. He recognized the fact that IOM made a big mistake for not forming an association with iVosta. He doesn’t understand why Alpha Gassama is making noise because GIVE project is only temporary,” Szlovak said.

Gassama responded that he would have appreciated it enough if IOM accepted their mistake rather than denying that the project was his own thought, ideas and original work. It is very critical to point out that both gentlemen knew each other since 2004 when Peter was working in Kinsale Road accommodation centre in the City of Cork where Gassama was hosted in his first few months in Ireland.

Most volunteers are being exploited in Ireland and people do witness this on a daily basis and there is no board set out to investigate it. It is very worrying that those that supposed to defend volunteers are actually the perpetrators or abusers. It is very sad that volunteers who are giving so much of their time and skills to the community are seldom encouraged. Alpha Gassama is a perfect example of an immigrant despite a decade of unacceptable conditions in Direct Provision (DP) hostels, he still opted to continue to volunteer for the wellbeing of the community since his arrival in 2004.

In another twist of event last week, AfricaWorld News was out on an outreach assignment to find out about the feelings of immigrants living in their locality. Patrick Abraham from Ballyfermot said, “When you are a victim of racism in Ireland, you don’t have any board to complain in oder to expect some action taken despite all the anti-racism propaganda and orchestra and it is not also in the judiciary system or in the Garda business”.

Africans are particularly singled out to be the subject of stereotype, discrimination and exploitation in most volunteering sectors of organizations. This could be the reasons why many volunteers avoid picking services in volunteering sectors and rather opt to stay all day at home watching Television. So many government-funded organizations are hypocritical in nature and pretend to assist immigrants while the reverse is the case.

Volunteers often bring value and personal touch to services. Volunteering is one of the many ways for someone to “give something back” based on their personal experience. Most services rely heavily on volunteers. Though there are sometimes concern about ‘job substitution’, inappropriate volunteers roles or poor working relations between paid staff and volunteers. Some sectors of services have addressed such problems through national agreements, but other sectors are still grappling with these issues. Volunteers often provide complementary or additional services, and the principle of ‘adding value’ rather than substituting the role of paid staff is particularly important

AfricaWorld News recently learnt from many immigrants who are Stamp 4 holders that they are being punished for spending more time abroad. Also last year some desperate immigrants with Irish citizenship travelled to Canada to resettle because they think it thinkable that there are more job opportunities and equality prevails in the job market. UK is also a very popular destination for Africans with high qualifications seeking for good life and job opportunities and they strongly believe that the country is a good example of a multicultural society and the only country in the world where their dignity will be respected regardless of their colour, sexual orientation, ethnic background e.t.c. The group of young Irish moving to Australia, America and Canada every week is posing a great threat and also damaging to the Irish economy.

When will the Irish national footballteam be thrown open for some of uswho wants to shine ?

All immigrants should prepare forelections. It’s your right, it’s yourvote.

You might wonder how it is possible for someone without a penny to their name be considered a millionaire. Wealth must first happen in the mind before manifesting on the body. Any acquired fame and fortune that did not first happen within may eventually crumble like a castle build with deck of cards. Plans made with how you feel rarely succeeds, plans made with insight (i.e. what you see) rarely fail. Here is an article I wrote to share some light into a Penniless Millionaire, http://ezinearticles.com/?The-Mind-Of-Success&id=7393887. Nobody is who they are or where they are by some misguided unfortunate act of misfortune. We are who we are today or where we are in order to learn from our circumstances so we may grow; if we feel our lot is a burden unjustly imposed and fail to learn from it, we shall remain where and who we are. Every person has a seed of ingenuity in them; that we have not yet unveiled deeds of potential benefit to mankind means we are a work in progress. We can achieve anything if we make up our minds completely and definitely to pursue our hearts desires and apply that creative talent given to us at birth to its fullest potential. The mind is the pathway to universal abundance; if we have not yet acquired wealth, it means that somewhere along the line our minds have been disconnected from the source of wealth and prosperity. In order to reconnect and become one with the source of wealth and prosperity, you must first become one with yourself, you must feed your mind with positive desires; create value for the benefit of others so that abundance of value can be added unto your life. If you provide others the opportunity to achieve that which you seek and

desire, that which you seek and desire will come to you effortlessly. There are no short-cuts to success. Wherever your mind goes your body follows because the body caters to the needs of the mind. First take care of your mind, and your mind will take care of the business that will launch your professional career, entrepreneurial quest and your moral ethic on the path leading to a self fulfilling prophecy. Without training your mind for success, without developing the mindset to succeed, success will elude you. It will be impossible for you to achieve success in any category that matters. The more you try to achieve your heart desires, the harder it will be. The closer you get to success, the further away it will become. When you think you have it figured out, you will realize how little you know. Feed your mind with ideas and materials that create positive desire instead of activities that produce immediate gratification. Concentrate your thoughts on what you desire and provide others means to achieve that which you seek, if financial freedom is the future you seek, you will be financially rewarded. If you cannot give others what they want, you will not get what you desire. If you hoard information that will benefit others in order to amass wealth so you can be the envy among men or women, you might probably not make a penny more than you already have today. The more you provide others the same opportunity you received either from a learning curve or divine intervention, the more wealth you will accumulate. Share that which is good and beautiful with everyone with whom you come in daily contact, you will receive more of that which is good and beautiful. The source of wealth is like a light, if

you hide it from others, you also hide it from yourself.

Summary

Wealth Accumulation is a matter of time and timing. It is about knowing what to do and taking action. It is more about following simple guidelines, than it is about how much money you have. Money + Return + Time + Compound Interest = Wealth. Anybody who applies this formula will ultimately generate annual income of a million dollar or more. Any amount of money with a suitable investment strategy and rate of return will generate millions in revenue. It is just a matter of coordinating time and risk in a workable business environment, to synchronize in perfect harmony.

FAMILY & LOVE

Do you ever feel like your partner treats you so badly that it could be some kind of abuse? Well maybe it is. Here are the signs of an emotionally abusive relationship.

The scenario is familiar. You can’t go out with the girls or wear that new pair of jeans to the office because your boyfriend might freak out or give you the silent treatment for a few weeks.

Or he controls the finances so tightly you don’t have a clue what you own or are worth. Maybe he belittles you in front of others. These may be simple lovers’ tiffs, or they may be signs you’re dealing with a controlling, emotional bully.

On the Africaworld Newspaper Forum at www.africaworldnewspaper.com, we have had numerous users pose the question to Agony Corner Guru - when is it emotional abuse, and when is it simply two people just not getting along?

A look at some of the questions and answers regarding emotional abuse:

An Africaworldnewspaper Forum user, Lydia, wonders if her boyfriend is emotionally abusive. She writes:

“ ... he often disagrees with me and I feel that he doesn’t really support me.”

“He belittles my religious beliefs ... and criticises me in front of his family and friends.”

She also says that he tries to control her finances and that she sometimes feels as if he is her parent.

Does it sound like abuse? Agony Corner Guru responds to her post: “Is my boyfriend emotionally abusive?”

Financial Power - or Abuse?

Worried (and many other users) wants to know if it’s a form of emotional abuse if the partner is in a stronger financial position and uses the power to belittle or degrade his or her partner, or in a passively aggressive way make them feel like ‘less of a person’.

Read Agony Corner Guru’s analysis of how abusers rely on their partner’s vulnerabilityand encourages the victims to work towards their independence.

When is Verbal Abuse Emotional Abuse?

Dealing With An Abusive Girlfriend

Abraham says: “Whenever I have a problem that I want to discuss with her, she immediately raises her tone of voice and gets her back up to me. She goes into denial and starts machine gunning me with all sorts of things, blaming me for things that happened years ago and is now fixed.”

User Nosa says: “This woman knows she’s got you by the nuts - and she is loving every minute of it.” Is it that simple, or could there be underlying issues? See what Agony Corner Guru and other users say.

EMOTIONAL ABUSE? USERS SPEAK OUT!

Emotional abuse can have devastating consequences on both physical and mental health, and should be identified and dealt with soonest.

While emotional abuse may be difficult to pinpoint, there are some general characteristics of emotional abusers:

• Exploits any of your weaknesses • Uses economic power to control

you• Continually criticises, humiliates

or belittles you in private or public• Controlling – keeps a tight

control on your whereabouts or possessions

• Becomes emotionally distant or gives you the silent treatment to punish you

• Co-dependent or tries to make you feel guilty for doing things separately from them

• Makes you feel afraid or unsafe • Makes you feel worthless

Emotional abuse should be taken very seriously as it can spark physical abuse and have devastating consequences, including depression. “It can also have a severe and long-term damaging effect on the victim’s self-esteem,” says Agony Corner Guru.

Escaping an abusive relationship may not be easy because emotional abusers often make their victims feel guilty and selfish for doing what’s best for them.

The wounds of emotional abuse also stretch beyond the abusive relationship. A study has found that spouse and partner abuse is linked to an increased risk for depression.

D. Do you think Africa encourages creativity in young people?

KDC. To me Africa compared to the rest of the world is still growing when it comes to encouraging talent. This means you have to work really hard to be noticed. Things are getting better as more and more creative people are getting noticed.

D. As an upcoming comedian, what type of challenges did you face?

KDC. When I first started, promoters would use me for their events without paying. Sometimes, I would have to walk to the venue and walk back as they even fail to provide for transportation. I had to endure all that because I needed a

KDC. I plan to act more as I have featured in Soaps and done some skits. I also have plans of organizing events that offer a platform for local comedians to perform along side local ones. I also have an interest in Real Estate which I plan to pursue much later.

Amazing Reading App…

Pick a book and read, the library is filled with books for different aspect of life. Reading habit is a profound way of learning, the progression of things has shown that reading can develop your intellect.

These days, you don’t necessarily need to visit a location to know much about the place. Technology as usual has brought everything closer to you more than ever before. When you choose a book to read, depending on the story line and nature, there’s one question that runs across the mind; “when do I finish the book”? Book clubs, libraries, kindles, loan out books with timelines for return and readers are meant to adhere to this policies to avoid losing membership.

Tech_Pilot has discovered information that might relief readers of this challenge of time. Many people desire to increase reading speed by way of applying for quick “Speed Reading” courses or even cultivate new habit that can enhance reading. It is also known that distraction is one of the biggest challenges in reading. Technology always research ways

of improving life and invented another application, before this innovation, there have been some other apps in existence that enhances reading pattern.

This new technology has answered some issues relating to slow reading. Spritz is developed into webpages and helps to spin words in a special way. It is designed to

flash words to the eyes and payingparticular attention to catching words in each flash. Usually, when we read, statistics has shown that the average speed is at 200 words per minute. This was taken into account for the research, Spritz software CEO, Fran Waldman said the invention will help readers absorb 1,000 words per minute.

He declared that it’s not an app but software imbedded into the newer model Android smart phones and tablets, mentioning Samsung Galaxy S5 and the Galaxy Gear 2 SmartWatch. According to his speech, the new Spritz will make it possible to get through Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone in 77 minutes; how amazing.

It’s interesting to know that one of the reason affecting fast reading is the movement of the eyes through lines of sentences. With the text-streaming technology, Spritz says the app essentially takes all the work out of the reading exercise by helping the reader swiftly find the “Optimal Recognition Point,” which is the spot in the word where

THE ERA OF NU

Friends and Fitness!!!

This is a topic I would want to personally address on my blog because I’ve had people ask me questions about how to deal with

friends questioning their quest for a healthier body!!!

So my honest question is, do these friends dread the fact that you may become slimmer and

fitter and make them feel left out? Or is it just a genuine concern that you really do not need to lose weight?

It is fascinating from my own

experience how I never felt over weight at some point in my life even though I could clearly see some slimmer people around me, but when I made certain changes, I could see more clearly and was able to move forward and never looked back!!!

My opinion on this is to make sure you have positive support on this lifestyle change to lose weight and become fitter, because negative support can be demoralizing and demotivational!!! Love you!!!

the brain starts to process its meaning. The Spritz looked squarely at focus and retention which are the major characteristics associated with reading, so the idea is to eliminate the wasted time a reader spends moving their eyes across the page. “When reading, only around 20 percent of your time is spent processing content,” Spritz’s website claims. “The remaining 80 percent is spent physically moving your eyes from word to word.”

One great advantage also is that there is no language that Spritz cannot operate in, says the CEO & co-founder Frank Waldman.

So the next time you are getting that new phone, look out for “Spritz” or ask the retailer…

The feeling of victory I stare at the five steps ahead of me, my mind in turmoil. Behind me the din of the crowd settled on my skin like a second layer. I took my first tentative step and another and another, until I reached those five white steps. I stared, my heart banging against my rib cage. As I began my ascent up the steps I looked around me into the anxious faces of the people in the crowd. I stared at my fellow team mates. I sensed their unwavering confidence in me. I looked into their eager eyes and felt my insides start to knot. My competitors were lined up on either side of me. The warning shot rang out, it startled me. I nearly forgot myself. As my competitors busy themselves by

checking their goggles and fiddling with their hats, I stared into that deep dark abyss. The water lapped gently over it. The wind picked up, making my skin prickle, giving me goose bumps. I did not mind the cold night air I relished it. I looked up into the pitch back sky searching for stars. Instead I was nearly blinded by the bright strobe lights over head. We were told to take our starting positions. I stepped onto the board in front of me, adjusted my goggles and took my mark. A shot rang out and I dived into the deep dark abyss. As my body broke through the surface of the chilled water, I felt adrenaline course through my veins. I shot through the chlorine filled sea as fast as a bullet barely coming up for oxygen. I felt a sense of triumph swell inside me as I hit the pool wall. As I lifted myself out of the chorine filled sea, the water cascaded down my weary body. Clad in black and sea green I took my stance proudly on the first place podium to uproarious applause. My team mates, friends, teachers, students, sponsors and strangers surrounded me, each eager to be the first to shake my hand. As the trophy was handed to me I heard the click of buttons as people to my picture, I felt the flashes of light blinding me. I felt tired and sore. I felt cold and stiff. But yet I could not be content. I felt victorious.
