Author:Leander Lavendel Kupferkeller SteampunkHi, i am a Steampunk Artist from Germany. You have Questions? Write me, check out my Homepage. I look forward to your entries :)

Intro: Aetheria Circumducitur- A Steampunk High Voltage LampHi,this is my first Instructable here on this Site. I hope you like my Constructions and Objects. Now, here is my " Aetheria Circumducitur". A high Voltage Lamp with a " NeonGeissler Tube ". Driven with a Tesla Generator and 5000 Volt. A rotating Cage turns around the Geissler Tube.

Step 1: The BeginningFirst we need something of Brass Ornaments and some divide from Lamps. Later we need Copper Tubes, a Micro Motor, Gears, a Geissler Tube, Tesla Trafo, BrassScrews, Switches and Cables, Wood Color, divides from Welding Sets, Springs of a Battery Support. Glue, Sticking Resin and good Nerves :))Now we put two Ball Bearings into the Lamp Owners. One solo and one with a Gear. ( The third Pic.). The Gear must be cutting in Form of the Ball Bearing inside andattach briefly with quick glue. Later we use the Resin inside the lamp Owner and stick together but only around the Ball Bearings !!!!!!

Step 2: HousingI used Beech Wood for the Housing. Arrivals and Saw. Then a provisional join. Its ok, we paint the Wood with Wood color. I used dark Nut Tree.

Step 3: MotorizingWhile the wood is at the dry, we prepares the Engine for the rotating Cage. Take a Head of a welding Torch and prepare it for 3 Cables. 2 for the Motor and one for theGeissler Tube Contact. It can be that must everything be drilled out depending on which torches were used. Prepare a Copper Tube for the Motor inside. Drill 2 smallHoles. One for the Motorcable and one with a 2 or 3 mm Thread for a Screw to fit the Coppertube with the Motor inside at the Torch. It must be attached with the gearwheel suitably. Now we have the two Holders for the Geisslertube.

Image Notes1. A burning Hole from the Tesla Trafo !!!

Step 4: The Geisslertube was made from a good Friend in Germany and has a Lenght of 320 mm. Filled with Neon Gas.

This Tube needs necessarily about 5000 Volts and 10 Milliamperes. I used a Tesla Transformator who runs with 12 V.There are many different Tesla Transformers but alow Amperage is Important. Is the Amperage to high so begins a Cathodes Atomization which destroyed the Tube.

Please be Carefull with the Tesla Trafo !!!! Its very Dangerous and Persons with a Pacemaker or a Hearing Aid can Problems get !!! The High Voltage is a Plasma thatcan burns your Finger and other Things. The cables from The Trafo to the Geisslertube must be very well isolated !!!!! Reproduction on your own Risk !!

Step 5: The AssemblyNow we assemble all. In another Part from a Lamp we put two Switches. One for the Light an one for the Motor. Inside the Lamp Holders now looks the Cable. Overthese Cable we put a small Acrylic Tube with a Battery Spring.

The Springs hold the Tube in their Situation and press it away from the Housing.

I hope you like this Instructable. Sry for the vew Deatails but i build this Lamp Months ago and i have no more all photos in addition.

    Best Regards

    Leander Lavendel

Leander Lavendel says: Mar 27, 2015. 12:31 PM REPLYOk, look here ;)http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steampunk

lukemarq says: Mar 27, 2015. 2:15 PM REPLYGee.. that was an eye opener. I didnt realize how the steampunk is not a subculture but a large part of human culture itself. It really permeated fast. Ithink because we are all naturally attracted to it so that we do not bother labeling it. Many of my favorite things are 'steampunk' such as Miyazaki's filmsand Skies of Acadia. And I am glad. Art is needed in our technologically advanced future. Without the merging of art and tech we will be facing a futurethat looks like "Equilibrium".

mikefromspace says: Mar 26, 2015. 11:22 AM REPLYOh man! I thought you really had an arc there! Shoot! There is a way. At the very least I would have grown fibers to produce a light source that lasts a veryvery long time. Same inventor also proved how to make gold in a microwave. Milewski.

There is a trick of pulse ion discharge in orbit among various anodes and electrodes that keeps material from migration, ie; electroplating the anode, since allparts alternate between being anode and electrode evenly. Mercury vapor tubes would do it in certain old ham radio designs. A fellow I knew running hisham off 3 phase power had 3 rectifier modulator tubes (rare!) in triangular formation and when he turned in on for the first time, an orbiting ring of fireensued; a continuous lightning bolt. If I wasn't so poor I'd have tried this already. Got some ge866's and had transformers made to run a single phase powertype setup with separate modulators, but I don't have the modulators or plan etc...etc... long list of never finished projects.

BluecrownStudios says: Mar 26, 2015. 8:43 AM REPLYI wonder if you could use a blue EL wire (with something to stiffen it into that spiral) to replace the custom bulb. Would be cheaper for you! Really love thisdesign it's awesome!
