Aerial Aerobics “It helps build upper-body and core strength, increases range of motion and flexibility” Aerial aerobics is a great exercise and what makes it beautiful is that it involves graceful dance movements in the air. It helps build upper-body and core strength, increases your range of motion and flexibility. Aerial aerobics uses various accessories like fabric, ropes and hoops which help the artists to perform while in the air. These accessories can also help hold you while striking poses and making figures while flying. There are different forms of workout routines available for aerial aerobics that range from dance to yoga. The yoga class utilises aerial hammocks to achieve weightlessness, spinal decompression, gentle stretching and core stabilisation. The hammock allows you to go deeper into stretches and traditional yoga poses. The swinging movement of the hammock can also relax your mind and release daily stress. The conditioning class works on suspended fabrics and uses specific moves to build strength and core stability, letting you use your own body weight to build strength. The movements help in building endurance while eventually sculpting the lean and toned body of an aerial dancer. The class incorporates the use of silks, static trapeze, fitness balls and floor exercises. Use of these apparatuses will result in you building strength and body shape to develop aerial and acrobatic skills. Accessories Used Silks -This is a long piece of fabric attached in the middle of the ceiling to create two long tails. You can learn to climb, invert in the air and hang upside down on silks. As your comfort level rises, you will learn sequences, drops, slides and flips that allow you to descend the fabric with style and grace. Hammock -This is a one-piece fabric with the two ends connected to the ceiling with the aim of creating a trapeze. The hammock helps you learn how to stand on the loop, hang from the loop and wrap yourself in many different positions. As you become more comfortable, you will be introduced to drops, slides and spinning. Rope- Ropes are very important in aerial aerobic conditioning. They also come in different styles such as braided, twisted or covered in webs. You can learn to climb, invert and move through poses to create sequences. Mastering the basic workout routines would lead to learning harder sequences which would need you to harness momentum in the air to perfect.
