BAPTISM CLASS Ages 3rd grade & up Sunday, January 21st
12:00-2:00 p.m.
When can I be baptized? Why do people get baptized? What happens when you get baptized? If your child is asking any or all of these questions, they are invited to join Bruce and Jen-nifer for a Baptism Class on Sunday, January 21st, immediate-ly following worship. We’ll have lunch together and then talk about what the Bible says about baptism, what it means to make a commitment to follow Jesus, and how we practice bap-tism here at West Main.
Parent Session: Parents of class participants please arrive back at the church at 1:30 to meet with Bruce in the Sanctuary. He will give you an overview of what your child has learned and discuss ”next steps.”
Call the church to sign up by January 15th.
AS THE YEAR ENDS This will be our final newsletter for 2017, so I am going to pack in a bunch of end-of-year information. If you have questions about our schedule, please contact the church office or look at our website. We will keep news updated there.
STILL HAVE A WAY TO GO ON PLEDGES We currently are at 55% of our budget pledged. We want at least 90% of our 2018 ministry budget pledged in order to go forward. That means we still need at least 35% more in pledges, or $201,390. We have only three more Sundays, as we are collecting through December 31, the last day of the year. If you have turned in your pledge, thank you. If not,
please do so by the last Sunday of the year. DEACON ELECTION RESULTS
Last Sunday morning we held our election for deacons who will serve West Main from 2018-2021. I am pleased announce that Larry Duncan, Brad Dalton, John Crews, Tanya Jones, David Dalton, Kristi Gilliam, Nell Sanford, Kim Meeks, and Gerald Adcock were all elected. Brad Dalton, Kristi Gilliam, Nell Sanford, and Tanya Jones will serve for the first time and will be ordained in January.
THANKS TO OUR DEACONS WHO ARE ROTATING OFF Also, I want to express West Main’s gratitude to the nine deacons who have served us so well for the past three years: Carrie Syvanthong (chair), Angie McAdams (secretary), John Evans, Susan Crews, Joyce Lanoue, Q Jones, Kara Scott, Sammy Tucker, and Jerry Shaver.
GARY M. FERGUSON MUSIC SUITE We are very excited to announce that the music wing of our church has been named for Gary Ferguson, our Minister of Music from 1984 to 2011. I invite all of you to check out the Gary M. Ferguson Music Suite. There is signage distinguishing the area, plus a wonderful photo collage honoring the many contributions Gary brought to our church. Thank you, Mark Gourley, for overseeing this good project.
BAPTISM CLASS You will see in the upper right hand corner of this page an ad for a baptism class. Parents, please take advantage of this. We will go over all details of what it means to make a profession of faith and teach the meaning of baptism. At 1:30, I will meet with the parents of participants to go over what happens next. If you have questions, talk to me or Jennifer or call the church office.
FINAL DAY TO GIVE IN 2017 The final day to make contributions in 2017 is Sunday, De-cember 31. Please check the schedule printed on the other side of this newsletter for office hours after Christmas day. Contribu-
