What You Will Be Studying
The major in Accountancy at CityU has three streams of study that target students' different developmental needs and prepare them for the career path of professional accountants.
The Professional Accounting Stream aims to provide an active learning environment in which students can acquire knowledge of accounting and interrelated business disciplines, along with the broader skills and essential values expected of the leaders of the accounting profession in Hong Kong and the Greater China region.
The Professional Accounting and Legal Studies Stream aims to provide students with a broad based business education and a specialisation in accounting with a strong legal background. Graduates of the programme will be able to competently conduct independent research in accounting and legal issues. This ability will undoubtedly enhance their career progression in CPA firms, government bodies or commercial organisations.
The Professional Accounting and Information Systems Audit Stream aims to provide students with a broad-based education in business that specialises in the integrated disciplines of accounting and information systems. The stream's graduates have more alternatives in their future careers than pure accounting students. With training in both accounting and information systems, our graduates can choose to work for public accounting firms not only in financial auditing and taxation areas, but also in information system auditing. Graduates of this stream can also work for multinational corporations such as IBM, HSBC and Hang Seng Bank as project managers. Others may serve as enterprise resource planning consultants due to their training in information management in addition to accounting.
For details of the curriculum structure, please visit ARRO's website at http://www.cityu.edu.hk/arro/catalogue.

Hong Kong is a global business centre that connects China to the rest of the world. According to a statistical report by the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, the number of mainland companies listed in Hong Kong has overtook that of Hong Kong companies in 2007. An increasing number of multinational technology companies are using Hong Kong as a springboard and regional headquarter to support their investments in China and the Asia-Pacific region. This has created great demand for global business professionals trained in Hong Kong to analyse and manage such cross-country ventures.
Our graduates find jobs as global business managers, global business analysts or business project managers in global investment firms or multinational corporations.

This programme aims to provide students with a sound professional and technological foundation to pursue higher professional degree study.
Given the fast pace of urbanisation in the Chinese mainland and the rest of Asia, millions of people will move to the cities in the coming decades. Constructing new towns and restoring old towns is an immense task. In developed countries, particularly the US, there is one architect for every 1,500 people. In Hong Kong, the number is one for every 3,500 and on the mainland, an architect will serve, on average, more than 100,000 people. The number of architectural professionals in the Chinese mainland and throughout Asia is far from enough to meet the increasing social demand and expected growth as the economy improves and the property market recovers.
How You Get In
73
To be eligible for admission, you must hold an Associate Degree or a Higher Diploma in Architectural Studies or an equivalent qualification from a local or non-local recognised institution. An award of credit is normally required to ensure the academic standard of the programme.
Applicants may be required to attend an admission interview.
What You Will Be Studying
The courses in the curriculum are divided into six subject areas.
Digital Design and Communication Architectural Design Sustainable and Green Architecture History, Theory and Criticism Professional Practice Technology and Engineering
The curriculum is structured around the Architectural Design studio sequence and supplemented by a broad spectrum of core and elective courses covering the subject areas.
The first two Architectural Design studios seek to strengthen your overall grasp of the field through courses on the development process of spatial ideas and an emphasis on building typology and urbanism, respectively.
The final two studios, Architectural Design: Urban Interventions and Architectural Design: Tectonics Inquiry epitomise the multidisciplinary-integrative-technological approach that is fundamental to the curriculum. These studios run in conjunction with the year-long Final Year Project, which allows you to undertake in-depth research of an engineering/technological aspect related to the design studio project under the supervision of an academic staff member.

Co-curricular Activities and Learning Support
Industrial Placement Scheme (IPS)
The Department runs an Industrial Placement Scheme, which was launched in 2010/11. In collaboration with the industry, the Scheme aims to provide students with real work experience during their university years to better prepare them for employment after graduation. It begins in the second last year and continues until graduation. There are three interrelated stages:
100
1. Participating students work on group industrial projects;
2. Well-prepared students undertake summer placement the following summer; and
3. Well-prepared students work on an industrial Final Year Project.
The Department places great emphasis on students' experiential learning. This adds more value to the major and enhances students’ employability upon graduation. Around 150 places will be secured each year for this scheme.
Additional internship schemes that have been in place for many years include the Industrial Attachment Scheme (IAS), the Overseas Internship Scheme (OIS), and the 12-month Co-operative Education Scheme (CES). Some students are offered jobs directly by the partner companies upon their graduation.
International Exchange
One of the Department's goals is to elevate students' global outreach and international competitiveness by raising the proportion of students joining student exchange programmes. In the recent past, a yearly average of around 20 students successfully grasped the chance to participate in exchanges with top universities in the US, Singapore, Finland, Germany, Canada, Korea and mainland China. Likewise, due to the urgency of internationalisation, our department has annually hosted around 20 inbound exchange students yearly from Turkey, Korea, Germany, the US, and mainland China. Their affiliation contributes to a multicultural environment that widens our students' horizons.
Course Tutoring Scheme
Student learning is always the Department's top priority, facilitated by the Course Tutoring Scheme, which is a well-received initiative that was introduced in 2010/11. The scheme is designed to nurture good learning skills in our students, particularly during their first year with EE. Outstanding senior students are assigned as Student Tutors, who participate in tutorial classes and guide students through the course content during and outside tutorial hours. The Scheme not only enhances students' understanding of course content, but also creates a positive learning atmosphere among peers.
Scholarship
Each year, some 70 scholarships worth over HK$900,000 are awarded to students in the Department of Electronic Engineering.
Student Achievements
Over the years, CityU Electronic Engineering students have won many top prizes in various international, regional and local competitions and award schemes. Click here for more information.

1. Participating students work on group industrial projects;
2. Well-prepared students undertake summer placement the following summer; and
3. Well-prepared students work on an industrial Final Year Project.
The Department places great emphasis on students' experiential learning. This adds more value to the major and enhances students' employability upon graduation. Around 150 places will be secured each year for the scheme.
One of the Department’s goals is to elevate students’ global outreach and international competitiveness by raising the proportion of students joining student exchange programmes. In the recent past, a yearly average of around 20 students successfully grasped the chance to participate in exchanges with top universities in the US, Singapore, Finland, Germany, Canada, Korea and mainland China. Likewise, due to the urgency of internationalisation, our department has annually hosted around 20 inbound exchange students from Turkey, Korea, Germany, the US and mainland China. Their affiliation contributes to a multicultural environment that widens our students’ horizons.
Course Tutoring Scheme
Student learning is always the Department’s top priority, facilitated by the Course Tutoring Scheme, which is a well-received initiative that was introduced in 2010/11. The scheme is designed to nurture good learning skills in our students, particularly during their first year with EE. Outstanding senior students are assigned as Student Tutors, who participate in tutorial classes and guide students through the course content during and outside tutorial hours. The Scheme not only enhances students’ understanding of course content, but also creates a positive learning atmosphere among peers.

Did You Know?
Because this programme is multi-disciplinary, it draws expertise from various departments of the College of Science and Engineering. Hence, students will receive high-quality teaching and training provided by the most appropriate departments.
Due to increasing energy demands and concerns over climate change caused by burning greenhouse-gas-emitting fossil fuels, there has been a revival of interest in nuclear energy. Many cities and countries, including Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland, are planning to significantly increase their use of nuclear energy. Thus, job prospects in the nuclear engineering field are very promising.
Given an aging population and the extensive use of radiation technology for medical applications, job prospects in the medical radiation field are particularly bright.
As increasingly complex engineering systems and civil structures are built in Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland, advanced maintenance engineering is becoming essential to ensure the safe and efficient use of such systems and structures while protecting the huge investments associated with these projects. Job prospects in this field are very good.
Risk engineering is not only essential to the nuclear industry, but also to many big corporations and engineering systems. Many companies have recognised the importance of assessing and managing risks to ensure that their businesses run smoothly. Given this, risk professionals are highly sought-after.
Risk engineering and management involves the assessment of potential threats to find the best ways to avoid them. In contrast, disaster and crisis management involves dealing with threats once they have occurred. Several recent major disasters and product recalls such as the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, severe flooding caused by hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, major vehicle recalls by Toyota, toys recalls by Mattel and the Three-Deer milk powder event have highlighted the importance of crisis management in reducing adverse effects among businesses and governments. Many government departments, non-government organisations, petrochemical companies, public utilities companies, banks and big corporations employ crisis management professionals to protect their businesses from potential consequences.
