CITEDI-IPN SPIE STUDENT CHAPTER

CITEDI-IPN Student Chapter was established in February 2013 by students of the M. Sc. And

PhD programs in Digital Systems at Centro de Investigacion y Desarrollo de Tecnologia Digital

– IPN (CITEDI-IPN), Tijuana, Mexico.

OBJECTIVES

The main objective of CITEDI-IPN Student Chapter is to promote research in optics and

image processing inside and outside of our research center. We are also interested to

exchange ideas with experts in fields of optics, digital image processing, and related

areas, which greatly contribute in the development of our research work.

We contribute to increase the optics and photonics science and technology community

in Latin-America, giving simple efforts to foster optics activities and motivate young people

to become interested in optics and photonics research.

CITEDI, Centro de Investigacion y Desarrollode Tecnologia Digital, is a research anddevelopment center of digital technologylocated in Tijuana, Baja California, a bordercity between Mexico and the USA.

CITEDI is part of Instituto PolitecnicoNacional (IPN), one of the largest institutionsof the country. The purpose of our institutionis to develop, promote and transfer basicand applied research to develop high-leveltechnologies in the area of electronics andcomputing, and to train human resourseswith graduate programs of excellence.

SPIE OPTICS + PHOTONICS

LEADERSHIP WORKSHOP

We attended the SPIE Optics + Photonics Leadership Workshop in August 2015, San Diego,

CA. This was the third time that out chapter collaborated with others chapters. It was a great

opportunity to increase our performance to manage our chapters activities.

ACTIVITY: SPIE OPTICS + PHOTONICS, SAN

DIEGO

SPIE Student Chapter Officer Grant, SPIE Optics + Photonics Leadership Workshop, Ago,

2015.

We had the opportunity to meet wonderful people from all over the world. We learned

how to manage our chapter and how to be productive in different areas of our careers.

POSTER PRESENTATION SPIE

OPTICS + PHOTONICS CONFERENCE

This was the third poster presentation of our student chapter and was presented by some

of our student members during SPIE Optics + Photonics 2015.

ACTIVITY: SPIE OPTICS + PHOTONICS,

SAN DIEGO

Oral presentation was developed from some of our student chapter members.

The topics of the presentation were patter recognition, optical correlation filtering, and

computer visión with graphics processors.

ACTIVITY: NATIONAL WEEK OF SCIENCE

AND TECHNOLOGY

In this activity, a chapter member in his

presentation had the opportunity to share

his knowledge of digital signal processing

with a focus on Optics at the National

Week of Science and Technology event

at “El trompo”.

"El trompo" is an interactive museum

located at Tijuana that promotes

technology and science to children and

general public.

PROMOTION OF OPTICS IN UABC

MEXICALI

Our chapter member, Leopoldo Gaxiola

presenting at the annual seminar of

science graduate programs at the

Autonomus University of Baja California

(UABC), Mexicali Campus.

FINANCIAL INFORMATION

The cost for attending to SPIE + Photonics was covered with the Officer Travel Grant for

conference pass, lodging, registration fee and transportation.

FUTURE WORK

Our main activities 2016-2017 are listed below:

SPIE Optics + Photonics Leadership Workshop.

SPIE Optics + Photonics oral and poster presentation.

SPIE Lecturer visit at CITEDI.

Promote optics, image processing and computer vision at national and local congresses.

Promote optics in student visits to research center.
