Snake encounters in the field can be common so it is important to be able to distinguish different types of snakes. Snakes often take refuge underneath logs and equipment, in between rocks, and un- der brush. Never step over obstacles unless you can see what is on the other side. Never stick your hand into crevices or holes unless you can see what is inside. Keep all gear securely closed including doors and tent flaps. Never try to remove a rattlesnake. If a rattlesnake is impeding work and or training call the Game Warden Office at 760-725-3360. If you can positively identify a snake as non-venomous removal is not necessary.
