Many of the smaller green spaces in central Londonare garden squares, which were built for the private use of theresidents of the fashionable districts, but in some cases are nowopen to the public such as Russell Square in Bloomsbury, Lincoln'sInn Fields in Holborn and Soho Square. The Royal Borough ofKensington and Chelsea contains over a hundred garden squareswhose use is restricted to residents including some of London's mostexclusive streets and garden squares, including Edwardes Square, most of the Holland Park neighbourhood and Wycombe Square, private redevelopments in Regency architecture. In early 2007,houses sold in Upper Phillimore Gardens for in excess of £20 million.Kensington's second group of non-residential buildings is at SouthKensington, where several streets of small to medium sized shopsand service businesses are close to South Kensington tube station. This is also the southern end of Exhibition Road, the thoroughfarethat serves the area's museums and educational institutions.

In the north east, the large Royal Park of Kensington Gardens(contiguous with its eastern neighbour, Hyde Park) is a greenbuffer. The other main green area in Kensington is Holland Park, just north of Kensington High Street, a minority of roads have smallresidential garden squares. Adjoining neighbourhoods haveresidential areas and have accordingly been subdivided or haveoverlapping district names. Close by lies Knightsbridge, WestBrompton, Belgravia, Holland Park and Notting Hill. Prominentattractions include Kensington Palace, Kensington Gardens, theRoyal Albert Hall opposite the Albert Memorial in Hyde Park, theRoyal College of Music, the Natural History Museum, the ScienceMuseum, the Victoria and Albert Museum, Heythrop College,Imperial College, London, the Royal College of Art andKensington and Chelsea College.
