United Airlines is the latest carrier to announce an agreement with the Transport Security Administration (TSA) to improve security screen- ing, similar to those already struck with American Airlines and Delta Air Lines. UA and the TSA will install auto- mated security screening lanes at select UA hubs nationwide, which they say enhance security effec- tiveness while decreasing the time travellers spend in screening by around 30%. The first of 17 automated lanes are expected to be deployed in Newark Liberty International this northern autumn, with more to come at Chi- cago O’Hare and Los Angeles Inter- national later this year. Hanoi has topped the list as being the best value destination in the world for a city break, followed by Mumbai and Cape Town, according to TripAdvisor’s latest TripIndex.Comparing the cost of a three-night break during Jun-Sep in 20 key tourist cities around the world for two people, the TripIndex has unveiled Hanoi as being the cheapest, with accom-modation, lunch, dinner, attractions and taxis for the duration costing $675.89; as opposed to New York City’s $2478.28, which topped the list as be-ing the most expensive.Following Hanoi, Mumbai came in as the second least expensive city, with lunch over three days for two costing as little as $99.37 and attrac-tions only $13.46; while clients could enjoy a Cape Town city break from just $800. Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Moscow and Bali will also see clients’ budgets stretch further, with a three-day break costing less than $1000. Rounding out the top 10 is Madrid, Berlin and Vienna, with a three-night stay priced around $1011.80, $1219.30 and $1351.63 respectively. At the other end of the scale, Tokyo followed New York City, with accom-

modation costing $1087.89 and din-ner costing as high as $508.51; while a three-night break in London would come in at just under $2000. Cancun, Paris, Singapore and Hong Kong were also at the higher end of the scale, with a three-night stay priced between $1800 and $1500. When it comes to eating out, travellers can get the best value for lunch and dinner in Cape Town, Mumbai and Bali ($222, $242 and $279) while at around three times higher, clients will pay the largest amount for food whilst in Hong Kong and Tokyo, with lunch and dinner costing $703 and $713 across a three-night break. The other variable to widely differ between cities is prices to visitor at-tractions, with some destinations predominantly offering free entrance attractions such as Hong Kong, Ha-noi and Tokyo where just 1% of trip spend is made up of attraction costs, compared with other destinations such as Moscow where clients would spend 14% on this. The same goes for taxis, where a 3km return taxi in Bali could cost only $9 as opposed to $135-$144 in New York, Tokyo and Rome.
