Isis Launch

Delighted shareholders celebrated the launch of ‘Isis’ (named after an Egyptian goddess the matron of nature and magic) with their fellow owners recently at Alve-church Marina. Shareholders had been eagerly awaiting the launch of their 62ft semi-traditional narrowboat and came from all over the country for the cham-pagne launch of their new boat and to wish their co-owners John and Norma Wills well on their maiden voyage.

John and Norma accompanied by their family were lucky enough to draw the first week away on Isis and were planning to head towards the River Severn along the Worcester and Birmingham canal on her first trip.

Isis was launched by BBC Radio WM presenter Joanne Malin who lives in the village of Alvechurch.

Maia — Our next new boat“Maia” is the Greek goddess of spring which we think is apt for our next brand new share boat which is due for launch Spring 2011. This boat will be built by Alvechurch Boat Builders with a similar specification to Isis but reverse layout (Galley and Saloon at the stern). We have already sold seven and a half shares in this boat, and as a result are now plan-ning the boat to follow on from Maia, which based on recent feedback, may be a shorter 2/4 berth.

Marina Developments ABC made major investments on two of its locations over the winter. All the moorings at Alvechurch Marina were replaced ensuring every slot has direct access onto the canal with water, electricity and Wifi available. The car park and some road-ways were also resurfaced. At Gayton Marina similar works were completed with 32 new moorings with all the same facili-ties. The access roadways have also been resurfaced and a new all weather car park created. Both of these projects were hampered by the bad winter weather and we thank you for your patience, but, I hope you agree it was worth it now it is all finished and the sun is shining again.

Aldermaston WharfIn addition to the refurbishment programme at our existing marinas ABC Leisure Group also ac-quired Aldermaston Wharf on the Kennet & Avon canal near Reading in April this year (previous home of Reading Marine). Although a small site with only a few moorings this location gives ex-cellent access to both the Kennet & Avon Canal and the river Thames (Just over an hour or so cruising to the River). We already have a couple of the boats we manage moving to Aldermaston to take advantage of this location.

Management fees held for two yearsThe demise of OwnerShips although sad for those who lost money has had the benefit of creating competition between management companies, and therefore enhanced services and competitive prices which can only benefit all shared boat owners.

Here at ABCBM we believe competition is a good thing and as a result we have taken the opportunity to review our operation and our charges. We have decided to set our Management charges for 2011 & 2012 at £250 per share per year including VAT if the boat is on an ABC owned marina, and £350 per share per year including VAT if on a marina not owned by ABC. We have also committed to absorb any VAT increases in that period so representing even better value.

Share Sales and the two schemes we offer. As part of our charging review we have decided to offer two levels of share selling service for boats under our manage-ment .

Free Service :We will place a listing for your shares on our boat brokerage website and at our marinas. Any inquiries will be passed to the vendor to arrange viewing and negotiate the sale. Once a sale is agreed we will act as the middle man in accepting payment and completing the transaction, all free of charge.

If you would like us to fully manage the sale including promoting the share at exhibitions, open days, on third party web-sites and in adverts etc. (Effectively where we have to pay others to do these things) we will charge a 5% + VAT commis-sion (minimum £250 + VAT). This includes us arranging viewings and negotiating the sale etc. With this we also hope to be able to prepare a 360 virtual tour for use when we are selling shares so I hope you will see that the commission is only a contribution to help towards our costs.

Holiday Discounts We are offering all owners of boats under our management a 25% discount off the brochure price of our hire boats (www.ukboathire.com) if you want extra weeks, have friends join you on your cruise, or to visit places you can’t get to like the Mon & Brec in South Wales, or the Falkirk Wheel on the Forth & Clyde in Scotland. Please call the Worcester book-ing office on 0330 3330 595 if you want to take advantage of this offer.

Emergency Boat Replacement Schemes

We are introducing two options to provide an emergency replacement boat (this is something OwnerShips were used to having) should yours be unable to cruise for any reason.

For £100 + VAT per Syndicate per year we will provide a hire boat free of charge for one week. The Syndicate can pay for multiple weeks if required by paying more than one premium. The boat will be provided from our own or another hire fleet and will not be someone else's syndicate boat. If for any reason a suitable boat is not available, or the owners can’t move to an alternative week when a suitable boat is available, the owner whose week has been lost will be paid the pre-mium back as compensation.

Or

The Syndicate can operate on a pay as you go basis. If the boat is out of action for any reason we will, subject to suitable availability, provide a hire boat at a 50% discount off the hire price for one week. On both options the Owner will pay for fuel and pumpouts as they would have done on their own boat.

Mooring discount cardDon’t forget to use your Customer Discount Card when making purchases at ABC owned marinas. Your card should be located in the card slot of your mooring permit holder. Please use your discount entitlement at all our shops for chandlery, giftware and confectionery. You can also claim 5% discount on fuel, gas, pump-out and other yard services.

New appointment for ABC Boat Management

Will Hollyhead has been appointed Operations Manager dedicated to ABC Boat Manage-ment. Some of you will know Will from his previous role as the Marina Manager at Alve-church. Will also lives on a boat himself so is well placed to offer our Syndicates the benefit of his personal experience owning and operating boats.

This new role has been created to ensure we are able to provide our Syndicates with an excellent service and as an investment to ensure we maintain this service as the number of Syndicates we manage grows.

Marina Services Don’t forget that our marinas are able to offer a variety of services including internal (£35.25) and external cleaning (£11.50) of your boat if you would prefer to simply pack up and go when you return after your holiday. Just pre-book with the marina before you set off. You can also arrange to have your groceries delivered to the marina by your chosen supermarket.
