The Power of Prayer

Once upon a time, a kind-hearted millionaire thought that he had been make a lot of merits except for building Buddha statue in a temple. He decided to collect the gold in order to offer it to a temple near his house.

The millionaire wanted everybody in the villageto participate in this merit-making because believed that making merit together will lead them to be born as the relatives in the their next lives.

Story Card



Nearby the millionaire’s house, there was a poor girl named Kaew. She heard the news about building a Buddha statue and thought that she has no money or anyproperty todonate but she had strong intention for participating in the merit-making.

She thought for this issue for many times and finally came up with one solution. “Even though I don’t have any money, I can still sacrifice my energy to find firewood for the millionaire for gold melting”



She grabbed a knife and headed into the wood to cut firewood. After continuously cutting the firewood, she was able to collect many bundle of firewood. While collecting the firewood, there was a poor man named Thong walked pass. He made fun of her and said “Why are you sogreedy? Will you be able to take them all home?



Kaew answered, “I collect this firewood because I want to take them to the millionaire for building Buddha statue.

Since I don’t have any money, this is the only way that I can help him. I will gradually take this firewood to the temple one bundle or two bundles a day. ”



After Thong heard Kaew said, he decided to help Kaew so he volunteered himself to carry the firewood and told Kaew“I’m sorry that I laughed at you. In fact, I’m also poor.

I think we should cut the trees a little bit more so that they will be enough for melting the gold and I will be the one who carry the firewood to the millionaire’s house”



Collecting enough firewood, Thongwent to take his gold which its weight equal to fruit fly’s wing and donated for merit-making. “ I want to be born in a pile of gold pile of money in the next life.”,Thong prayed. “I want to be born in a rich family and wish not to live like this again”, Kaew prayed



With the power of prayer, they both have new lives. Kaew was born to be a millionaire’s daughter who she made merit with.

For Thong, he was born with a poor man again and he never knew that the trees around his hut were all gold because he had never seen gold before.



Since Kaew was the only child that millionaire had, he raised her very well.When Kaew grew up, her beauty spread all over the town. The millionaire made an announcement to all rich and poor men to come for mate selection from his daughter.



But Kaew hadn’t met anyone that she liked yet, so the millionaire made the announcement again for those who never came. Thong heard the news but didn’t dare enough to go because he knew himself that he is poor. He continued working in the farm and didn’t interested in the news. The servant of millionaire knew that Thong hasn’t gone to the selection yet so he asked Thong to go at millionaire’s house.Withmerit they did together from lastlives, Kaew was very impressed Thong so she chose Thong as her husband.



The millionaire was very disappointed but still kept his word. He allowed them to live in Thong’s house because he ashamed of having a poorson-in-law. The millionaire gave his daughter only onecart and a little bit of personal stuff.



When they both arrived at Thong’s house, Thong asked Kaew for a walk around the hut.All trees around Thong’s house are yellow. Kaew didn’t sure if they are gold so she walked closer and said “Do you know that these trees are gold?, if we sell them all , we will be millionaires!”



“That means every trees around this hut are gold right?” Thong asked his wife. “Yes!” Kaew answered. Thong was very happy when he found out that he has a lot of gold. They both help each other to cut the trees and were able to take them to sell for almost 500 carts. They turned to be millionairesand lived together happily ever after.
