Welcome to the Club ________
January 2017 The National Chevy AssociationTM 1
Hi from Nat’l. Chevy, As I write this it is Dec. 14 and our high temperature today will be about 7°. The high for Sunday, December 18, is supposed to be -30° with an overnight temp on Saturday at -21°. Predictions for Friday are possibly a foot of snow. All we can do is hope for a warm-up for Christmas. We had snow earlier, but it warmed up enough to melt. Now it would seem to be officially winter. I hope everyone received their new catalog — if
you didn’t and you are reading this, give us a call and we will get one to you. We’re still keeping pretty busy here with lots of last-minute Christmas gifts for folks. I have a need for more pictures and stories, so I’m hoping you can help me out. Keep the newsletter going. I have a nice story for next month — I hope you’ll like it. ‘Til next time....

Why I Love Minnesota in Winter
When it’s winter in Minnesota,And the gentle breezes blow,About seventy miles an hourAnd it’s fifty-two below. You can tell you’re in Minnesota‘cause the snow’s up to your butt,And you take a breath of winter airAnd your nose holes both freeze shut. The weather here is wonderful,So I guess I’ll hang around.I could NEVER leave Minnesota anyway,‘Cuz my feet are frozen to the ground.

If interested in my car for your “Parts-Line” Newsletter, I am a paid member (Eric Nelson, MuscleCar Restoration and Design) and this is my car.
I have been looking for the past 4 years for a ‘54 BelAir or equivalent to replace one that was crushed in a barn collapse in 1977. Everything I came across was either junk or way overpriced. As a long shot I finally gave up and put a wanted ad on a muscle car forum I belonged to. Within 45 minutes three people responded to me with the same Craigslist ad for a car located in Portland Oregon. Somehow I missed that ad when I was doing a search. That was around 6:30 on a Sunday night. By 10:30 I had PayPal’d the owner with a down payment.
A quick phone call to the owner confirmed that the car was an original paint, original interior and drivetrain, 54 210 Chevrolet. The original owner, a woman, had bought the car new and then willed it to her church when she passed away in 2004 at the age of 94. The car was then given to a parishioner in exchange for some work he had done for the church. He never touched the car and 12 years later sold it to another gentleman who put new brakes, wheels and tires and was in the process of rebuilding the engine when he decided to sell. I then bought it from him so that makes me only the second person to ever routinely run the car on the road. When the deal was struck I very jokingly asked if there were any ‘documents’ that came with the car. He quite candidly said yes and that they were all in the glove box. Upon receiving the car he was correct, they were all there.
Since the engine was torn down and as many know are very costly to rebuild I immediately dropped in a small block chevy, a Turbo 350 transmission and an S10 rear using engine, transmission and rearend installation kits from Walton Fabrication which made easy work of the transplants. I have kept every nut and bolt from the original parts that were not used safely in storage. I also added new carpet, a new trunk mat, weatherstripping and several other assorted parts from the National Chevy Association. The shifter is a Locar piece from Speedway Motors.
My whole intent on this initial build was to build it in my driveway using mostly off the shelf and garage parts that I had and do it just as I would have back in 1977 being more concerned about function than I was looks. I own a high end Chevrolet restoration shop and for a change wanted a very low budget street car leaving all the dents and patina that were already present.
Upon receipt of the car my fiance’ insisted I give “her” a name. I insisted that I do not name my vehicles but her persistence paid off and so being green with a green interior, I decided to name her “The Booger.” I will drive it as is for the next year or so or until such time I decide to change it. For now I just want to enjoy it like it is. Rick Nelson
NCA, use whichever photos you chose. Thanks for the opportunity and helping me get the parts I needed for this work in progress.

Dear National Chevy Parts,
This is my first order for parts for my ‘51 Chev. I bought this ‘51 in March of 2016 with 17,400 actual miles. The car came from West Virginia. The interior is in great shape. The car had one repaint in 1976. I am currently cleaning the undercarriage and engine compartment.
Thanks again,Frank CollinsKansas
Sharon....I see you’re still looking for pics and stories of ‘49-54 Chevs. I don’t think I’ve sent pics yet of my ‘49. It came from Cape Coral, Florida and is pretty much original with 48,000 miles. It’s an older refurbishment and is just a fun car to drive to local car shows. Original 216 engine, with 3 speed manual on the column. It’s got a few NCA parts in it already and more to come. Next project is to install Williams headers and dual exhaust.
Later...Bruce SpooWisconsin
