Yeoval Central School Term 2 Week 7
6 June 2016
“Speak clearly, if you speak at all; carve every word before you let it fall.” Oliver Wendell Holmes.
You have a voice, use your voice wisely and take every chance to give thoughtful responses in our world of global connectivity. Nerves of steel allowed our student voices to express themselves intelligently, in a competitive field at the annual CWA Public Speaking Contest in Bathurst. This invaluable opportunity to develop vital communication skills saw our brave students compete with peers of similar abilities. The Primary section had one of their largest field of competitors in years. The judges for the Secondary Years 7 and 8 students commented on the high quality of Yeoval Central School speakers and congratulated our students and teachers on their efforts. All students should be extremely proud of their grand efforts. A big thank you to parents who assisted with transporting students to Bathurst. A massive thank you to Mrs Tremain for her tenacity to keep this wonderful opportunity and encouraging our students to express themselves in an academic forum.
Mrs Debbie Blatch
On Thursday 2 June students travelled to perform in the Dubbo Eisteddfod. Under the guidance and tutelage of Mrs Leah Graham (Teacher of the Deaf), students learned how to perform two songs; The River and Shake it Off.
The students performed extremely well against much larger groups of students from West Dubbo Primary and Orana Public School. The adjudicators comments included ‘well practiced’ , ‘overall a fantastic effort’ and ‘ meaning delivered well with the signs chosen to use’.
This was a great experience for all students involved. We would also like to thank Mr Carl Thorne for his organisation of the excursion along with all the parents who assisted with transport for the day. Pictured: Students rehearsing for the Dubbo Eisteddfod with Mrs Graham leading.

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT:
Well done to Kailee, Madaline, Sarah and Ethan who completed Work Placement in Dubbo. Excellent organisation by Mrs Pauline Allen, our WAP Work Placement Coordinator and support by Mrs Bates, Mr McLaurin and Ms Freeth allowed our students to have this opportunity.
Congratulations to our CWA Public Speakers who competed in the finals in Bathurst. Thank you to Mrs Tremain and Mrs Blatch for their organisation and to Mrs Gellert, Mrs McClure, Mrs Tremain, and Ms Evans who assisted with transport.
Mrs Leah Graham has been working most recess and lunch breaks with our ‘Signing Choir’ who performed at the Dubbo Eisteddfod. Thank you to Mr Wright and Mr Thorne for their organisation and supervision. A great new opportunity for our students.
Music was high on the priority last week as our students were given the opportunity to join other Western Access Schools in the Combined Music Day in Tullamore. Thanks to Mr Peter Nichols who hosted the day and to Mrs Nadine Wilkin who coordinated the excursion and transported all students.
Students have been completing their Semester 1 assessment tasks over the last week. Teachers have been busy assessing and reporting on student achievement. They will have the opportunity to speak with you at our Parent Teacher Meeting night on Wednesday 29 June (Week 10). Please keep this night free to meet with your child’s teachers.

At this stage, parents can pay up to $300 for Canberra and $150 for Sydney excursions.
If families are experiencing any difficulties paying for these excursions, please contact Mrs Bliss for an assistance application.
REMEMBER TO LABEL ALL OF YOUR

WESTERN ACCESS REPORT
HSC English Studies
English Studies is a non-ATAR subject which helps students to develop their knowledge and understanding of the applications of English to everyday life. This term HSC English Studies students
have been learning about English and the media and how bias and the Code of Ethics in media can at times be misused. Students are exploring this concept through the analysis and critique of sporting news articles, A Current Affair and 60 Minutes programs and will eventually be creating their own articles to be published in their school newsletters.
Courtney Foley, Tullamore Central School
Community & Family Studies
HSC Community and Family Studies this term are studying the topic “Groups in Context”. Students explore FOUR specific groups within the community who may be experiencing inequities by examining the nature of the group, their specific needs and level of access to services. One of these groups include the homeless.
Students will examine the role that positive social environments can have on enhancing the wellbeing of the group, identifying the most significant needs for the group and discussing the implications if these needs are not met, as well as analysing the extent to which organisations within the community can assist.
Sarah Lindsay, Tottenham Central School

Thank you to each of the staff members that gave up their own time to spend days and nights with our students also.
Well done to the students who participated in their first Work Placement and also to those students in their HSC, some completing their final placements in the week gone.

MEET OUR SRC
NAME: Lillie Harvey
AGE: 11
YEAR: Year 6
I live on a farm.
Favourite thing about being on SRC: You can see
smiles on the faces of others.
My role on the SRC is to: be a leader to others
and to make the school a better place.
If I ruled the world I would: make
everyone a pet fox.
I enjoy: doing sports with my family
on the weekends.
