MR TRIPLOW’S 45 YEARS OF TEACHING TRIBUTE

At Monday’s Assembly Mr Triplow talked about his 45-year journey of teaching (25 years at SeafordPark PS). Here are his thoughts:

It is with great pleasure that on Sunday July 23rd I received my Service to Education award fromMr. James Merlino Minister of Education for 45 years teaching service. My first school was Daylesford Primary School in 1975 where I taught Year 3. I lived near the mineralsprings and played both cricket and football and worked with the Secondary School to do a SchoolProduction. From 1976 to 1979 I worked at a fabulous school in Ballarat called Alfredton Primary School. In 1980, I taught at a 2 teacher school with 35 children. For three of those years I taught a Prep to Twoclass and one of my pupils who still corresponds with me, became a doctor. We had koalas in ourgum trees and I lived in a school house (5 bedrooms) which was in the school grounds. In 1987 I came back to Melbourne and was appointed to Seaford North Primary School. My nephewsand niece went to Seaford North and I enjoyed my 6 years there. To gain promotion I came to Seaford Park in 1993. I remember having a lot of trouble finding theschool to put my application in. One pupil I remember was a young grade 6 girl named Kylie Bridger.Kylie whose surname is now Fisher is heavily involved in our parent group and is the mother of ourSchool Captain Jolie. When I arrived the new galleries had just been completed and the number ofassemblies and musical activities in the large gallery are countless. The school uniform use to have a frog on it, because at the back of the school there was a small creekwith many tadpoles and frogs living in it. Unfortunately the new houses and bike track saw the end ofthe little creek. My favourite activities at Seaford Park have been the concerts, the sporting activities, public speaking, graduations and of course seeing many children grow in their learning and asindividuals. It is now an exciting time for the school with the building of a permanent school with modern facilitiesand classrooms. As I said at the assembly it is important that all children make the most of their timeat school and how lucky you are to be at Seaford Park. I have always been proud to be a part of thisschool and spent the last 25 years here as part of my career.

Lost Clothes

As the weather has turned considerably cooler over these winter months there have been a lot ofjumpers left on the oval or in the playground that the teachers constantly pick up and try to return themto their ‘owners’ if the clothes are clearly labelled. Teachers often do a label check in theirclassrooms to return jumpers to the child but this can be difficult if the jumpers are not labelled or thelabel has faded. Please check your child has their correct jumper and that it is labelled clearly, so ithas a chance to be returned.

TIGERI’m staring at the beautiful tiger lying on the edge of the waterfall, leaning against the damp, greyrocks, peaceful and quiet. The sun reaches the rocks and the tiger, creating long, black shadowsstretching down to the crystal water below. They fall into the horizon gently, quietly. I hear the greatroar of the waters meeting, creating froth as white as fluffy clouds. The sound echoes and makes mewant to fall into it and never stop. I feel calm, I have a clear mind, letting it draw me in like a trance, nottaking my eyes off the magnificent tiger. I feel the cool wind blowing through me. It makes me feelrelaxed. Smelling the wet, damp rocks, and the freshness of the waterfall, makes me see a perfectdish served to my will. The tiger has a smell of wet and coolness makes me feel calm. I open mymouth from the amazement and taste the fresh air that makes me cry from the joy. I’ve never had abetter day in my life. Taimana 4/5A

RESOURCE SMART

Resource Smart Schools is a Victorian Government initiative that helps schools becoming moresustainable. Our school has been involved with Resource Smart for a number of years now. In doingso our school takes action to minimize waste, save energy and water, promote biodiversity andreduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Some of the ways Seaford Park takes action are composting our food scraps, recycling, conservingenergy and planting trees. This term as a school we would like to include two more ways we canminimize waste. From this term we will be promoting Nude Food every day as well as Take AwayRubbish, which means any food wrappers brought into the school will be sent back home in lunchboxes.

Not only will having Nude Food everyday cut down on waste it will also save money as buying in bulkis cheaper than buying individual serves. Over the coming months we will celebrate our achievementsso look out for items in the newsletter as well as our Facebook page. We will also have a specialEnvironmental day at the end of term.

Rubbish facts

1. Up to 60% of rubbish that ends up in bins could be recycled2. Up to 80% of a car can be recycled3. Each year the average family has enough rubbish to fill a 3 bedroom house

RIDE2SCHOOLRide2School is a nationwide initiative by Bicycle Network, supported through State Governments. Theprogram works to address physical inactivity in young Australians by empowering and enablingschools to ride and walk to school. “By riding and walking to school, students contribute to theirminimum physical activity level of 60 minutes per day. Research shows that students who ride andwalk as part of their journey to school are more focused and ready to learn when compared with thosewho are driven.” (Ride2school)Each week our school will find out how students travel to school. This will be done through the‘Handsup!’ initiative, with the aim of increasing the number of students walking, scooting or riding toschool. Being involved in this program also gives our school a chance to win fabulous prizes. Not onlywill you become more active our school will also be in the running to win prizes.
