The moment is February 9, 1964, at 8:12 p.m. After a brief commercial break, four young men from Liverpool step onto the stage of “The Ed Sullivan Show,” changing culture forever. Seventy-three million people watched The Beatles perform that night — the largest television audience to date anywhere. This was the event that introduced The Beatles to America. But what the band did next would introduce them to the entire world, permanently transform-ing the music industry, forever ingraining them into the fabric of popular culture.
They went on tour. From June 1962 to the time the band
quit the stage in August 1966, The Beatles performed a staggering 815 times in 15 different countries and 90 cities around the world. This incredible period gave birth to “Beatlemania,” and showed the world something completely new: youth-culture unchained!
From Academy Award®-winning director Ron Howard, The Beatles: Eight Days A Week – The Touring Years, Saturday, November 25 at 8pm, tells the story of these exceptional years from the point of view of the band, its world and the fans. The GRAMMY®-winning film explores the inner workings of The Beatles — how they made decisions, created their music and built an astonishing collective career together.
Authorized by The Beatles and featuring new interviews with the band’s surviving members, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, The Beatles: Eight Days A Week – The Touring Years draws from more than 100 hours of rare and unseen footage collected from fans, news outlets and national archives, giving the viewer a ticket to this extraordinary ride.
