Wednesday, 21st September 2016 —Term 3 Week 9
Pope Francis called for an observance yesterday of a
‘Day of Prayer for Peace’. Below is the prayer he
asked us to pray.
Peace Prayer to St Francis of Assisi
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy;
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Traffic Flow
Lorraine King, School Board Chair, and I have have
been working behind the scenes to find a solution to
the traffic congestion at the end of the school day. We
met with Darwin City Council in June and they have
now proposed a traffic audit be undertaken to identify
solutions for our concerns. At the School Board
Meeting next Monday, we will discuss their proposal
and make a decision on what they have presented.
Staff Professional Development Day
The below has been in the Newsletter for the last few
weeks. Please remember the school will be closed on
Friday, 30th September for staff professional
development.
Like the Green Tree Frog, I grow and change.
Like the Bush Bee,
I can work with others and on my own to be successful.
Like the Eagle, I see what I
need to do to achieve my
goal and take responsibility.
Like the Crocodile,
I can overcome challenges and keep
going when things get
tough.
Like the Dolphin, I am free to
develop my own ideas and take
risks.
Like the Green Ant, I use what I know and
what others know to
build meaning.
Like the Tata Lizard I can become a learning detective, searching
for answers or clues to my own or
others questions.
Learning Power Project
A Message from the Principal ...
This includes After School Care and Rainbows.
Every year, we have a staff professional development day on
Catholic Identity. This year, all our staff from the school,
Rainbows and After School Care will come together for this day.
It will be on the last day of the school term, Friday 30th
September. On this day, the school will be closed. No childcare
or After School Care will be available. We will return to normal
hours on the Monday for Rainbows and Vacation Care.
We will also be getting asbestos removed in our Junior toilets
over the holidays as part of the completion of the toilet
upgrades. This will occur on the Friday—Pupil Free Day.
Rock ‘n’ Roll Evening
Make sure your keep next Thursday, 29th September free for
our Rock ‘n’ Roll evening. Should be a fun evening for all the
family. See the flyer attached in the Newsletter for more
information.

AROUND THE SCHOOL...
Learning Social Values
Children’s ability to understand others and take their needs and views into account develops over time. Young children are naturally self-focussed. They often play beside, rather than with, other children and tend to think that everyone sees things the same way that they do. In early primary school children learn that others may see things differently from them. Then, as their thinking skills develop, children are more able to understand another person’s point of view and, finally, to appreciate multiple ways of looking at the same event or situation. Teaching children how to put themselves in someone else’s shoes helps them to relate better to others and manage conflict more effectively. It promotes caring, respect and fairness. Research shows that children who have learned to value others are more likely to include and appreciate children who are different from them or who are viewed negatively by others.
