Optical instruments have been a Seiler family tradition since 1913 when company founder Eric H. Seiler entered the ZEISS School of Fine Optics in Jena, Germany. After earning a Master’s degree in Fine Optics, Eric H. Seiler brought his craft to the United States where he and his wife, Dora L. Seiler, started Seiler Instrument and Manufacturing Company in 1945. With Eric H. Seiler’s knowledge of optics and his son Eric P. Seiler’s knowledge of business management, the company flourished.

Eric H. Seiler’s appreciation of fine craftsmanship and pride in his work contributed to our philosophy of quality and customer service, a legacy he passed on to his son, current chairman of the board, Eric P. Seiler, and his grandchildren, CEO Rick Seiler, Executive Vice-President, Tom Seiler, and Compliance Director, Louise Seiler Schaper.

Eric H. Seiler established Seiler Instrument to manufacture and repair surveying equipment. With the help of four generations of Seiler family members, the company has grown from a small operation into a multifaceted 5 division thriving business: Seiler Manufacturing, Seiler Geospatial, Seiler Design Solutions, Seiler Precision Microscopes, and Seiler Planetarium.

Seiler stays current with new technologies by adding sophisticated tools and machines every year. Although computer numerical controlled (CNC) machines have replaced manually operated machines, there is still no replacement for old-world craftsmanship, a necessary attribute

of every instrument manufactured or sold by Seiler Instrument. Technology may change, but one thing continues to endure—Seiler’s dedication to excellence and customer service, a philosophy that breeds customer satisfaction.

Seiler Instrument and Manufacturing is an ISO 9001:2008-registered, world-class contract manufacturer specializing in precision optical instruments, complex opto-mechanical, opto-electronic and mechanical assemblies and subassemblies, and close-tolerance machined parts. We take pride in having established and maintained a global reputation for producing instruments and components of the highest quality to the most exacting standards and are one of very few companies to have the facilities, the specialized equipment, and the uniquely skilled and experienced craftsmen necessary to perform this type of work in an efficient, economical and timely fashion.

Our core competencies include design and engineering, machining, assembly, testing, inspection, and repair, all of which are available as contract services. Our high-precision CNC machine shop is capable of machining complicated metal parts from both castings and barstock while consistently holding tolerances of .0002 inches. Our assembly department builds complex instruments, assemblies and subassemblies in strict accordance with U.S. military standards and specifications and all customer requirements. Our quality department identifies quality requirements referenced in customer contracts and communicates them effectively to the departments responsible for complying with them. We also thoroughly inspect and verify the acceptability of purchased and fabricated components before they are released for assembly, and perform optical,

Manufacturingenvironmental, shock, and vibration testing per customer requirements. As the last step prior to shipment, Seiler conducts a final inspection to ensure that no non-conforming product ever reaches our customers.

The Seiler Manufacturing Division product line consists of optical instruments, assemblies and subassemblies, and machined parts. In addition, Seiler manufactures a line of patented Day and Night Vision Rifle Scopes under the brand name VISIONMASTER®. We supply these products and services directly to agencies of the U.S. Department of Defense under prime contracts, to other prime contractors as a subcontractor, and to international customers, both directly and under the U.S. government’s Foreign Military Sales Program. All transactions with foreign entities are conducted in full compliance with the ITAR and all other regulations applicable to the export of military items.

Our sales personnel maintain cutting edge fluency in the expanding universe of hardware and software choices that set a ZEISS Planetarium apart from the rest. Seiler’s factory trained technicians assist our customers in troubleshooting and repair of ZEISS opto-mechanical planetarium projectors and digital fulldome video projection systems.
