    Amazing childhood

Generally, in every generation the state of mind of the childrenis almost similar - that until the age of seven or eight years they remain immature and as such they are unable to conceivefrom. But, the childhood of Alarat was very outstanding. His sense of maturity and memorizing capability were so strong even in the childhood that that he succeeded incompleting the recitation of the complete Holy Quran in thesmall age of just 4 years. At the age of six, he delivered anextremely scholarly sermon on the topic of Mld-un-Nab

in front of a very large gathering in the blessedmonth of Rab-ul-Awwal and was applauded warmly by thescholars and clerics. At the same age, he determined thedirection of Baghdad Sharf (the sacred city of Ghau-e-Aam

) and thereafter, he never stretched his legs inthat blessed direction out of respect. He had burning zeal foral; he would offer the daily fiveals in Masjid takingcare of Takbr-e-Al. Whenever he would happen to come acrosssome woman, he would immediately bow his head loweringhis eyes, being overwhelmed with the Sunna of the BelovedProphet which he poetically expressed in theblessed court of the Most Blessed Prophet asunder:

Nch nkaun k sharam-o-ay par Durd Anch bn k rifat pay lkaun Salm

    (adiq-e-Bakhshish)

Alarat embraced piety to such an extent that,in his adolescence, the sound of his footsteps could not be heardwhilst walking. He commenced observing fasts of Ramadan-ul-Mubrak from the age of seven.(Fatw Razawiyya, vol. 30, pp. 16)

An event of childhoodSayyid Ayyb Al has stated that when Alarat

was a child, a teacher used to come to his house toteach him the Holy Quran. One day, whilst teaching, the teacherasked Alarat again and again to utter a wordfrom a Qurnic verse but he could not articulate itin the way as his teacher asked him to do. The teacher wouldpronounce the word with a Zabar but Alarat pronounced the same word with a Zar. When Alarats

grandfather Mauln Raz Al Khn noticed thatsituation, he called Alarat closer and askedsomeone to bring the Holy Quran so that the correct wordcould be seen. On seeing the Holy Quran, he discovered thatthe scribe had mistakenly written Zabar in place of Zar, i.e.what Alarat uttered was correct. Hisgrandfather asked, Amad Raz! Why did you notutter the word as your teacher asked? Alarat politely replied, I tried to utter as the teacher did but I felt as if I did not have control over my tongue.

    Alarat has himself narrated, There was ateacher of mine by whom I would learn initial level books;

whenever he would complete with his teachings, I wouldglance at my lessons just once or twice and would close thebook. Afterwards, when he would ask me to repeat my lessons,I would repeat word by word. He would astonish observingthat situation daily. Once he said to me, Ahmed! Are you ahuman being or jinn? My teaching consumes time but yourmemorization does not! Alarat replied, Allpraise be to Allah , I am a human being, however, I have

been blessed with the Benevolence and Bounty of Allah .(ayt-e-Al arat, vol. 1, pp. 68)

    First Fatw

At the age of 13 years, 10 months and 4 days, a Dastr(certification of the completion of Islamic studies) was conferredon Alarat as he had completed all the traditionalIslamic disciplines from his respected father Mauln Naq AlKhn . On the very same day, he wrote aFatw in reply to a query. Finding the Fatw correct and

accurate, his exalted father Mauln Naq Al Khn

delegated to him the office of Muft and Alarat continued the services of Ift till his demise.(ayt-e-Al arat, vol. 1, pp. 279)

Al a rats expertise in mathematics

Alarat was blessed with unimaginable treasureof knowledge in innumerable disciplines. He made hiscontribution to about fifty disciplines and wrote valuable books. He possessed expertise in almost every discipline. He had suchperfection in Ilm-e-Tawqt (science of the determination of timings of al and Fasting) that he would set his clock merely by looking at the sun in daytime and the stars at night. Thetime he would set was always accurate and never differed by even a single minute.

Al arat was exceptionally skilled inmathematics. Once, Dr. Ziyuddn, the vice chancellor of AlGa University, who possessed foreign degrees and awards, visited Alarat to seek the solution to amathematical problem. Alarat asked him toexpress his problem. He replied, It is not so easy to expressthis problem. He asked again, Express a bit! The vice chancellor described the full complexity of the problembut, to his astonishment, Alarat instantly provided a satisfactory solution!

Stunned by listening the correct answer, Dr. Ziyuddn said, Ihad made up my mind to go to Germany for seeking thesolution to this problem but fortunately our Professor of Islamic studies, Mauln Sayyid Sulaymn Ashraf Sahib guidedme to come here. It seems as if you were already looking into

the solution of the same problem in some book. He went back delighted and satisfied. He became so impressed by the grandpersonality of Alarat that he grew beardand became regular in offeringal and observing fasts of Ramadan.(ayt-e-Al arat, vol. 1, pp. 223-229)

Alarat also possessed substantial proficiency inTaksr, Astronomy, Ilm-e-Jafar etc.

Amazing power of memory Abmid, Sayyid Muhammad Kacocaw has stated, When I had been in Bareilly Sharf for renderingservices in Dar-ul-Ift, events revealing instantaneous responseof Alarat on queries were seen day and night, astonishing the people around. Among these responses, therewere some such wonderful answers the parallel of which hadnever been reported in the past. For example, some query wasreceived, the experts of Dr-ul-Ift reviewed that and it was felt

that some altogether new issue has been raised. As such, it hadbeen obvious that no ruling from Islamic jurisprudence couldbe found for replying and answer will have to be derived usinggeneric rulings set by Islamic jurists. So, when we entered thecourt of Alarat for asking, Strange andaltogether new queries are being asked. What methodology

should be adopted? Alarat replied, It is a very old query. It has been explicitly mentioned on so and so pagenumber of Fat-ul-Qadr by Ibn-e-umm, on so and so pagenumber of so and so volume of Rad-dul-Mutr by Ibn-e-bidn , and in indiyya and in Khariyya. When thosebooks were referred, not a difference of single dot was found inthe mentioned page number, line and contents. This divinebestowed virtue and talent of Alarat always

kept the scholars astonished. (ayt-e-Al arat, vol. 1, pp. 210)

May Allah have mercy upon him and may He forgive uswithout any accountability for his sake!

Memorising the Quran in just one monthSayyid Ayyb Al has stated that one day Alarat said, Some unaware people write the title of fi with my name whereas I dont deserve it as I am not afiof the Holy Quran. Sayyid Ayyb further said

    that Al

    a

    rat

started memorising the Quranfrom the very same day. Probably, the duration for thatmemorization was from having made the Wu foralt-ul-Ish to the commencement of Jamat of alt-ul-Ish. Alarat memorised one Pra (part) every day andhe finished the 30th Pra on the 30th day.

On one occasion, Alarat said, I havememorized the Holy Quran in sequence making efforts. Ihave done so in order that the utterance of the people whowrite fi as a title with my name may not turn out wrong.(ayt-e-Al arat, vol. 1, pp. 208)

Love for the Holy Prophet The personality of Alarat was a symbol of profound love for the Exalted Prophet . Theintensity of the love of Alarat for the Holy Prophet may be realized by reading his poetic

masterpiece adiq-e-Bakhshish. He has composedpoetic lines in praise of the Holy Prophet fromthe bottom of his heart that testifies to his immense love & admiration for the Most Exalted Prophet . Henever wrote any poem in flattery of any worldly lord becausehe had adopted submission and devotion solely for the ExaltedProphet with heart and soul. In fact he was atclimax of this attribute of his. He expressed thesesentiments in the following couplet:

Inayn jn inayn mn na rak ghayr say kmMayn duny say Musalmn gay

    Refraining from flattering the lords

Once, various poets composed poems in the praise andcompliment of the Count of Nanpara (district Bahraich-UP,India). Some people requested Alarat tocompose a poem in praise of that count. In reply to this, Alarat wrote a Naat in praise of the Prophet of Rama, the Intercessor of Umma with thefollowing opening couplet:

Wo kaml-e-usn-e-uzr ay kay gumn-e-naq jan nanYe pl khr say dr ay ye shama ay kay duwn nan

Meanings of difficult words: Kaml = Perfection,Naq =Imperfection,Khr = Thorn

Explanation of Razs poetry: The elegance and majesty of theMost Beloved Prophet of Allah is at thehighest degree of perfection i.e. he is ideal in these attributes. He is absolutely flawless - imperfection is notconceivable in him. Every flower carries thorns at its stem butthe fragrant bloom of minas flower bed is absolutely freefrom thorns. Every candle is replete with the smoke which is asort of flaw in it, but the Beloved Prophet isthat bright candle in the domain of Prophets that is smokelessi.e. absolutely flawless.

    11

And in the closing couplet, Alarat phrased theword Nanpara so beautifully:

Karn mad-e-al-e-duwal Raz paay is bal mayn mayr bal Mayn gad n apnay Karm k mayr Dn pra-e-nn nan

Meanings of difficult words: Mad = Praise, duwal = wealth,Pra-e-Nn= Piece of bread

Explanation of Razs poetry: Alarat hasstated, Why should I admire the rich? I am beggar of the courtof the Benevolent Prophet . My religion is notfor Pra-e-Nn. Pra means a piece and Nn means bread. So it implies, It is none of my business to earn my bread by flattering the worldly lords.

Beholding Mustafa in wakefulnessWhen Alarat went to perform Hajj for thesecond time, he kept recitingalt & Salm in front of thesacred tomb till late night with the desire of beholding theBeloved and Blessed Prophet but, in the firstnight, he was not predestined to be blessed with that grandprivilege. On this occasion, he wrote a famous lyric in whoseopening couplet he expressed the hope of attachment with theMerciful Prophet .

Wo say lla zr pirtay aynTayray din ay bar pirtay ayn

Explanation of Razs poetry: Get bloomed O Spring. Look! The Sovereign of Madina is coming towardsthe flower bed.

In the closing couplet, he expressed his worthlessness in ahighly melancholic mood:

Ko kyn pcay tayr bt RazTuj say shayd azr pirtay ayn

(In the second line of the above couplet, Alarat humbly used the word Sag [i.e. dog] for himself, however, Sag-e-Madna has written Shayd - one who is deeply in love).

Having presented the lyric, while he was sitting reverentially

waiting for beholding, his fortune smiled as he was blessedwith beholding the Holy Prophet with openeyes in wakefulness.(ayt-e-Al arat, vol. 1, pp. 92)

! May we be sacrificed on those eyes that beheldthe Most Beloved Prophet of Allah inwakefulness! He was deservedly blessed with this privilege ashe was deeply devoted to the Holy Prophet and engrossed in his love, which is evident from his poetry.

    Glimpses from character

Alarat said, If someone would split my heartinto two pieces, he will see inscribed on one pieceand on the other.(Sawni Imm Amad Raz, pp. 96 Maktaba Nriyya Razawiyya, Sukkur)

    Tjdr-e-Al-e-Sunnat, Shazda-e-Alarat, ur Muft

Aam Hind Mauln Mustafa Raz Khn says inSmn-e-Bakhshish:

Khud ak per o to ak per Muhammad Agar qalb apn dau pra karn mayn

In the eyes of the eminent and respected scholars and saints of his time, Alarat was fully captivated in the loveof the Prophet of Rama, the Intercessor of Umma, theOwner of Janna . He was often found gloomy due to being away from the Holy Prophet .Whenever Alarat would read the blasphemousstatements written by the paid blasphemers, tears would well

up in his eyes. He forcefully refuted them so thatthey may be diverted to writing against him in reaction ratherthan against the Exalted Prophet .

Alarat often felt proud that Allah hasmade him a shield for the protection of the glory of the Noble

Prophet in those times. He would refute theirblasphemous statements forcefully and bitterly so that they become engaged in using their energy against him and, for thatspan, they could not blaspheme the Beloved and BlessedProphet . He says inadiq-e-Bakhshish:

Karn tayray nm pay jn fid N bas ak jn dau jan fid

Do jan say b nan j bar Karn ky kaoon jan nan

Al arat never let the poor return withoutdonating. He would always help them. Even in thelast moments of his life, he made a will to his

relatives to look after the poor, serve delicious food to themand never rebuke them.

Alarat would often remain busy with writingand compiling books. He would always offeralwith Jamat in Masjid. He would consume very little food.

    Reverential sitting posture during Mld

In Mld Sharf, Alarat used to sit inreverential posture like that of al throughout the Mldsession and he would stand up for invokingalt-o-Salm atthe instant of mentioning of the blessed birth. He would deliversermon from the pulpit for four to five hours sitting constantly in the same reverential posture.

Would that we, the slaves of Alarat, adopt the virtue of sitting in that reverential posture whilst reciting or listening tothe Holy Quran, attending Sunna-inspiring Ijtimt, MadanMukara, Madanalqa etc.(Sawni Imm Amad Raz, pp.119) (ayt-e-Al arat, vol. 1, pp. 98)

A unique way of sleeping At the time of sleeping, Alaarat would place histhumb on his index finger forming the word . He wouldnever stretch out his legs while asleep. He would sleep alonghis right side with both hands combined and placed underhis head. He would then bend his legs. In this way his body would portray the word . (ayt-e-Al arat, vol. 1, pp. 99)

These are the unique manners of the devotees of Allah and the lovers of His Noble Prophet .

The train kept halted!Janb Sayyid Ayyb Al Sh has reported: Once,Alarat was travelling from Pilibhit to Bareilly by railway train. During the journey, the train stopped at NawbGanj station for two minutes. The time of Maghribal hadstarted. As soon as the train halted, Alarat started offeringal in the train having invoked Takbr-e-Iqmat. There were probably five persons who joined Al

arat in al. I was also amongst them. Justbefore joining theal, I chanced to glance at the non-Muslim station guard, who was waving the green little flag. Ilooked outside from the window and found that the line wasclear for departing the train. But the train did not move. Alarat completed all the three FarRakt with fullcomposure and at the instant when he had paid Salm towardsthe right, the train departed. The invocation of ,

The point to be considered in this miraculous marvel is that if Jamat had been offered at the railway platform then it couldhave been said that the guard prevented the train fromdeparture having seen the Saint of Allah offeringal.Sinceal was offered inside the train, it cannot be conceivedthat the guard would have seen the beloved of Allah offeringal inside the train in such a short time and thencedelayed the departure. His books

Alarat wrote approximately 1000 books ondifferent topics. He wrote millions of Fatw (religious rulings)from the period 1286 A.H. to 1340 A.H., but unfortunately, allof them could not be recorded. Those which were copied havebeen compiled under the title .

The latest edition of Fatw Razawyya consists of 30 volumes,21656 pages, 6847 question-answers and 206 booklets.(Fatw Razawiyya, vol. 30, pp. 10 Raz foundation, Lahore)His thoroughknowledge of Quran, Ad, Fiq, Maniq (logic) etc. can be judged only by a deep study of his Fatw. An ocean of argumentation is turbulent in each Fatw. The names of sevenbooklets of Alarat are:

    1. : Alarat wrote this booklet condemning those who slander Allah

by associating the vice of telling lies with Him. Thisbooklet was a death blow to the opponents fabricatedstandpoint. (2) (3) (4) (5) (6) (7)

    Translation of the Holy Quran

The Urdu translation of the Holy Quran done by Alarat is superior to all other Urdu translations of thepresent era. The translation done by Alarat is called Kanz-ul-mn. Alarats spiritual successor,Mauln Sayyid Namuddn Murdbd hasadded marginalia titled Khazin-ul-Irfn and Shaykh MuftAhmad Yr Khn has appended marginalia titledNr-ul-Irfn in Kanz-ul-mn.

    The sad demise

Deriving the year of his demise from Part 29 verse 15 of SraAd-Dar of the Holy Quran, Alarat disclosedabout his demise four months and twenty two days before thedemise. There are 1340 numerals in that verse according toIlm-e-Abjad and 1340 ijr is his death year as per Islamiccalendar. That Qurnic verse is:

Rounds of silver utensils and goblets will be there for them.
