With the aid of high technology, the pipeline evacuates the waxy crude from oilfields of Rajasthan to the coast at Salaya. To execute the project, L&T deployed its huge fleet of machinery and manpower in seven spreads simultaneously highlighting L&T's capability to meet customer needs with high quality services.
Prior to this, L&T commissioned two prestigious projects for Reliance: A state-of-the-art onshore gas processing terminal at Kakinada, the largest of its kind in India (800 MMSCFD); and most of the construction works for the 27 MMTPA Jamnagar export refinery project (JERP).
L&T also played an important role in completing a part of RIL's 48” East-West pipeline to carry natural gas from KG basin at Kakinada. This pipeline is considered to be the lifeline of the growing industrial and infrastructure sectors of India. The project was completed on schedule despite the adverse terrain and tight time-frame.
L&T undertook construction work for the debottlenecking project of IOCL's 28” / 24 “ dia x 400-km-long Salaya-Mathura pipeline.
Technology and Capacity Building
Adopting new technologies and automation in various processes with attention to safety and the environment has always been L&T's focus. The state-of-the-art piping automation shop at HMEL, Bathinda, GPS-aided-surveys, PUF-insulated joint coating for pipeline projects, Auto rebar shop, Pipe fit-up machine are some of the measures and facilities successfully adopted across various project sites. A slew of other initiatives - such as development of the FCAW semi-automatic welding technique and PAUT in radiography will enhance HCP's technology and capacity-building proposition.

Advancement in pipeline engineering
Pipeline Engineering Services
L&T-GULF’s office in Faridabad.
L&T GULFBusiness Domain
LTG spearheaded the advancement of pipeline engineering in India. Some of the special studies LTG has undertaken have been done for the first time in the country.
• Seismic design of underground pipelines is carried out based on IITK – GSDMA Guidelines for Seismic Design of Buried Pipelines. Hazards assessed due to seismic activities include effects of buoyancy due to liquefaction, permanent ground deformation caused by liquefaction, seismic wave propagation and fault crossing of the pipeline. Considering the nascent stage of such studies, the services of authoritative experts in geology, tectonics and seismic hazards from institutions like IIT and the Geological Society of India are also used as and when required.
• Assessment of river morphology and hydrology analysis for river crossings, to estimate design flood event having a 100-year return period. This helps determine safe setback distances at river-crossings, considering river migration and local bank shifting, if any
• Sand-dune migration, with help of remote sensing data, available literature and field observations
• Buckling analysis to identify probable buckle regions which are dependent upon pipe characteristics and soil/pipe frictional relationships
• Pipeline Hydraulics (Steady State and Transient Analysis) and Surge analysis through TG Net ,TL Net, OLGA, Pipesim, etc.
• Stress analysis
• Anti-buoyancy control design
• HAZID, HAZOP and HSE, QRA, SIL assessment, SIMOP, RRA
• Corrosion studies
• Batching studies for multi-product pipelines
• Studies on blending heavy waxy crude oil with normal crude oil
Advanced studies such as these aim to minimise the risk of pipeline rupture or exposure during earthquakes, landslides, floods, etc.

L&T is one of India's first engineering & construction companies to report on Corporate Sustainability performance, based on 'GRI G3' guidelines, and has received national and international accolades since the publication of its first sustainability report in 2008. L&T won the 'Caring Company Award' presented by the World CSR Congress
in 2012 for exemplary corporate citizenship and commitment to creating a truly cohesive society. It also won the Corporate Governance and Sustainability Vision Award 2013 in the 'Water Stewardship' category from The Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) award L&T for 2012-13. The L&T Sustainability Report is A+ checked and externally assured. It is made accessible to all stakeholders at www.Larsentoubro.com
